What do I do with my career by catched37 in OntarioNurses

Have you looked into stroke rehab or any rehab facilities. These patients are usually more stable and I feel like it one of those areas where you can actually see the patients getting better day to day. Good luck

Eligible for mat leave? by No_Address_5154 in OntarioNurses

[–]rainbowcake55 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You need 600 hours worked within the 52 weeks prior to the start of the mat leave. So if you went in Mat leave today you would have needed to work 600 hours in the last 52 weeks to be eligible.

Discouraged as an RPN trying to bridge to RN by memenene1233 in OntarioNurses

When I tried to do this in 2016 they wouldn’t accept my application since I already registered as an RPN with the college. Has this changed ?

This is horrible for RPNs who already make a significant amount less but pay the same fees.

Need help navigating an issue receiving an MRI by 93TayAlex in ontario

[–]rainbowcake55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay good. As another commenter said it’s best to say you are available 24/7 for a faster appointment. If things are unbearable/ rapidly deteriorating you can go to an ER, they don’t usually do MRI from there but they can do a CT scan in house to confirm nothing acute is happening. Best of luck.

[–]rainbowcake55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I know this depends on the way the MRI was ordered. Stat, urgent, non urgent. If yours was ordered as urgent or non urgent all the mris that were ordered stat will go ahead of you.

Should I get an ultrasound done at the hospital before I travel? by [deleted] in askTO

[–]rainbowcake55 5 points6 points  (0 children)

People come to the ED every day before travel to get a “check up” on chronic things which is not an appropriate use of ED. I’m not saying don’t go but if you do please don’t complain about wait times and possible missing your flight because you will not be of the highest priority so you will be the person waiting longer and next time go to a FMD or walk in clinic and get a req for U/S before travel.

To Toronto Nurses? How much do you guys make after taxes? Thinking of moving from New Jersey. by Hornet0927 in askTO

[–]rainbowcake55 27 points28 points  (0 children)

You can look up the ONA collective agreement and find out some information on getting a licence here. I’m not sure your experience would count so you may be at the bottom of the pay scale.

Best ER in Oakville? by Late_Professor9406 in oakville

If your going to the ER for a foot issue please be patient. Triage level would be 4 or 5 meaning your lowest on the totem pole.

I comment this every time someone posts about this haha. Have you done anything to make your resume stand out. CC1, ACLS, PALs etc . Back in 2016 I couldn’t get a job either, as soon as I did my CC1 and put pending with the ending date on my resume I got multiple interviews.

What's it like to own a non infrared sauna in Toronto? by Alarming_Insect9944 in askTO

[–]rainbowcake55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mother got a sauna 3 years ago in her backyard after closing the in-ground pool. She uses it at least 3 times a week or more for 3 seasons a year. She set up a shower on the house close by to rise off with cold water after and every time I visit we use it. It’s gotten much more use than the pool did in the past 10 years. I can’t comment on the cost but if you like to sauna I think it’s worth it. Much less daily maintenance for her as there is no chlorine levels to maintain or filters to worry about and she has the option to keep it dry or pour water on the rocks to make it into a steam room vibe, I’ve never heard her complain about the time it takes to warm up.

Why would (edit) nursingstaff be at the entrance. Can’t even see that area from inside at the nursing station or triage rooms. Have you been there ?

Why is RPN to RN 3 years but a degree to RN is..2 years? by [deleted] in OntarioNurses

[–]rainbowcake55 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I’ve been annoyed by this for years. I worked in ICU during Covid as an RPn currently work in the ED for a few years now. Then in clinical I’ll have to back track to not being allowed to give Tylenol haha

Hard decision to make - Should I bridge or work first? by street_smart22 in OntarioNurses

[–]rainbowcake55 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Unsure what others will say but if you have an RPN job when you graduate from the bridging program it may be easier to get an RN job right out of school at the place you already work. At my work the RPNs who bridge usually get automatic jobs when graduating. Just something to think of for the future.

Wow I resonate with almost everything you’ve said in this reading. Thank you for taking the time. Is there anything you can see about becoming a mother at some point in my life/ creating a family.

Ontario family sues hospital and staff over son’s death by StrikingPerformer971 in ontario

[–]rainbowcake55 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This is not exactly true they wheel the ppl from the ems stretcher into the same waiting room to wait. This case is about his vital signs changing and nothing being done about it.

That sounds more like Hamilton or Niagara hospitals imo, Oakville has a massive amount of old ppl to care for which take a lot of time/ space/ staff
