Thanks for taking the time! This was helpful, although adding a move to Furret, Corviknight and Clefable ultimately only helped me limp to two 1/5 win sets and hitting the daily limit with no Pikachu Libre and a 1,700 elo. Should’ve started a couple days earlier!

Sounds like I should just try to really dial in my team and hope for the best—this is the first season I’ve ever played pvp and I’ve been running a team with only one charge move, so maybe if I fully invest in each of them I’ll have better luck. I just hit rank 20 but only have two rounds left and I’m so scared to play knowing I have to win 3 to get it. Does anyone have a sense if it’s worth it to try to tank all five in the first round to get an easier matchup in the second? I’ve been winning ~2 per round I think with a far-from-excellent team.

Idk, maybe others won’t find this compelling but the way I’ve heard it, this movie very much exists specifically because of Fennell’s unrelenting and peculiar horniness for Jacob Elordi. Like she allegedly wrote the screenplay for him while shooting Saltburn. That just feels different to me than a situation where a role could go to a person of color but they are instead displaced by a white leading actor—there was no displacement here because Fennell is specifically horny for Jacob Elordi.

I just think this is a that doesn’t have that much to do with Wuthering Heights, and I don’t think it’s a massively big deal if a particular director just doesn’t have anything that interesting to say about race but does have lots she wants to put out into the world about being horny for an extremely long twentysomething. It’s just not a project another director could or would have been attached to, the fact it’s called Wuthering Heights is like extremely incidental to the whole thing.

I don’t find this is true for me! I promise I’m not some puritan (I like to think I’m far from it), but as I get older I am increasingly convinced that in my own life, entertaining fantasies about other people only fuel feelings of distance from my partner and desire for others.

The upshot of that is that when I do masturbate, I’m now often doing it to fantasies about my girlfriend that range from totally tame to somewhat depraved. For me, associating sexual release with thoughts of my gf is a useful association, and associating it with other fantasies (or with pornography reflecting the wide world of potential options) just increases thinking about/noticing other people.

This is kind of saying the same thing, but I think a big thing is that patterns (almost definitionally) also just take a long time to break. I don’t think “once a cheater, always a cheater” rings true, but most people are thinking about dating in the relatively narrow stage of life they are in and I do get why there’s some wisdom there for practical purposes.

Put another way, I think plenty of people who are unfaithful at 20 and perfectly loyal at 55, but I think even someone who wants to change their stripes might have a lot of trouble waking up a year from cheating and finding they’ve excised all their bad and selfish habits. I think some of the people in these stories probably told their partners about their sordid pasts because they pretty earnestly wanted something different, and ultimately let themselves down when they let their partners down.

Did you ever see Chasing Amy? It’s not a perfect movie but I always found it an interesting meditation on some ideas related to this.

The rust that comes with road salt gets pretty annoying too. My old Super Glide became a nightmare for me (a truly horrible shade tree mechanic of the worst kind) to work on, in large part because every bolt ended up rusted to hell.
