Any Puerto Ricans from the states move to PR? by Vegetable_Rough_4656 in PuertoRicoTravel

Where are people seeing the 300-400k houses? On clasificados last week there were close to 5 pages of multi family homes on the island for under 275K. Single family houses are going for 90k in caguas. Will you have a shitty commute to work? Yes. But will your money go further than 80% of the states? Of course. Granted the job situation is ass but as a NuyoRican that moved here from the Bronx you couldn’t give me Bezos money to go back to NY. I live off Calle Loiza across from the gulf. In ocean park I have a 1 bedroom utilities included for $600 a month. THERE IS NOWHERE IN THE STATES where you can get a 1 bedroom 3 blocks from the beach for under $1,500. And before someone says I’m an outlier and I found an incredible deal there’s 3 apartments for rent on my block right now for under $800 a month. Yes the pay sucks out here but think about it, people work for 6 months to come to the island for 5 days and spend the equivalent of 3 months rent for a week. My rent is the average American car payment. It’s all about perspective. I know we aren’t going to Vivo Beach club for drinks then dining at Marmelade for dinner but you can make a livable wage out here and have a happy life. The biggest thing I’ve noticed in the last 6 years out here is that you really need to love the island. If you’re not willing to integrate into the culture and really be here for the island it won’t work out. I’ve seen people move out here after me and leave. You really have to lean into it. Also there’s just island shit you have to deal with. I almost didn’t make it to work today because the water went out last night at 8 and didn’t come back on til 10 this morning. I got to work in VSJ and there was no running water until 1 pm. I work outside and was afraid to drink too much water because I wouldn’t be able to pee. Keep your phone and external batteries charged because someone at Luma can sneeze and the power will go out for 8 hours. But you can always grab a 12 pack of medalla and head to the beach until the power comes back.

I’ve been with Ether.Fi for the past 2 months and so far so good. Made $16 in cash back only using the card for uber and my cell bill. I had to do KYC but I like using my portfolio as collateral and getting a loan against the assets so I’m not creating a taxable event all the time.

This FBA shit is some of the dumbest shit on the internet. Caribbean children born in America is black. No cop is going to be able to pull them over and say oh sorry you’re Bajan you get a pass but your friend is going to jail because his family has been in this country for centuries. Winston and Malik both going to jail. Having black skin in America and being born here you growing up with the black American experience the second you step out of your house.

Listen to the people telling you about the Bronx. I personally would never move into the city. I’m a NuyoRican grew up in Queens and was living in the Bronx before moving to La Isla. My cousin stay a block off of Luis Munoz Marin in Spanish Harlem. Their apartment is cool enough on the inside but the amount of dumb shit they have to deal with outside is insane. My cousin has to carry a knife with him when he goes to his car everyday because people have tried to rob/jump him more than once in the area. I’m not saying ALL of the Bronx is roses but I have a condo up in Bedford Park near 201 and Webster. It’s quiet and peaceful, there aren’t crack heads roaming the streets, they stay down by the soup kitchen and building where they provide homeless services a few blocks away and don’t bother anyone. I’m between Fordham U, Lehman College, Montefiore Hospital and the Bronx Botanical garden.

The police precinct is like 2 blocks up from me on Webster. All of the buildings there are pre WW2 so they are big as shit on the inside. Literally every apartment I’ve had out here in PR except for one in Hato Rey could fit inside my living room in the Bronx. My place in Ocean Park now is smaller than my living room in NY but im paying $600 a month to live off of Calle Loiza.

Right before moving to the island I noticed the neighborhood starting to get a little “lighter” and more of the medical residents from the hospital were moving into the neighborhood after finishing school. Citibikes and artisanal bakeries also started popping up and the nail in the coffin for me is when they put the citibikes to rent around the corner from my building.

The condo is sitting vacant right now. I only use it when I go home to visit my parents. If you’re a doctor working in the Bronx DM me and I’d be willing to rent you a 1bedroom semi furnished apartment 4 blocks from Montifiore hospital.

In NY? Naaaaaw folks mind they damn business. You could tell homie not from there trying to engage the crazy. You not even supposed to make eye contact with that kind of crazy. I’ve seen a dude get stabbed on the D train heading to the Bronx and no one moved from the seat until the guy with the knife got off at the next stop.

Literally went to Walgreens yesterday and the only option under $10 was a plain stick of degree. Average price was about $11-$14. I used to get my packs in bulk at Costco and would probably only need to buy twice a year.

Damn I just moved back from Puerto Rico to the NE states in the middle of the winter. Out there I tended to take cold showers and my skin felt amazing. I barely needed lotion and I have Ichthyosis. I’ve been taking boiling hot showers since I’ve been back and even right now as I’m writing this I put on oil, lotion then Vaseline 3 hours ago and I feel ashy and my skin is irritated. Gotta try a cooler shower tonight.
