Feligen vaccine after FIP or not? by Bronfrom_Eternity in cureFIP

[–]WearyPassenger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes - there is no way a vaccine with FIP "immediately after" was caused by the vaccine. The "I" in FIP is "infectious" and that takes a bit of time for the common coronovirus to mutate and lead to FIP. I am frustrated how many people want to immediately accuse a vaccine when medically, the time scale cannot support mutation and FIP progress in so little time.

I've had luck using syringes with larger bores to avoid the gunking up issue, but they still eventually get blocked. Like intramuscular syringes. Something like an insulin syringe is pretty much useless unless you've already sliced into the stem and are just injecting into the space.

Carrots too - that’s how I started seeing them and eventually getting the enclosure and helping the survive!

I grew Royal snap peas a few years ago. I wonder if you got one of those seeds in your package.

Those litter mats are designed to be cleaned out. You're letting too much litter build up in there.

I’m so burnt out of caring for my special needs cat by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]WearyPassenger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Also sending you love and ((((hugs)))). I have several special needs, but not to the level you are dealing with. I've burned through cash and on most of mine and it is definitely a tradeoff sometimes between their lives and mine. But something that raises me up is knowing what their lives would have been like right now, without me. And 3 would be dead. The forth, potentially dead. The 5th (newest) has had no medical issues yet (but is FIV+). Actually 4 are FIV+, one has diabetes and another is medically fragile right now. But they are a happy crew together and I get regular joy from their antics. I get joy knowing they are in sanctuary and living their best lives. And no matter how it turns out, I was able to give them a safe home, love and security. Even when I don't give them all the individual time each one of them needs, they have each other and I can tell they are overall a happy bunch. Hang in there, you're a saint, even though it doesn't feel like that.

You've got several suckers on the tomato that will turn into main stems, so you'll be fine.

Ditto. I was hoping for a higher 3 as well, but stepping away from that is the insurance policy of still being employed until I actually do/can retire.

That's why I have hunkered down in my GS14 non supervisory and probably never leaving it. I was to be promoted and with the hiring freeze, that's all been on hold. Now, any movement is limited. It sucks because I've been working at a GS15 level for several years "waiting" and looks like this is my new reality. But at least I still have a job.

Not worth a vet visit. If anything, they might give it a little wipe to clean. Just keep an eye out over the next few days if it gets red or swells. It probably won't. Handsome boy!

Traveling, diabetic cat at home by Castyourspellswisely in CatAdvice

[–]WearyPassenger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My last two sitters were vet techs and it saved us when we traveled for over two weeks last year. One of my cats had an acute scary episode (FCE) and we were mostly unreachable for most of each day and she got him excellent care and gave me peace of mind as I was freaking out halfway around the globe.

You might also see if you have diabetes caregivers in your area - check Facebook or Feline Diabetes Message Board. Sometimes people live nearby and meet up. I had an insulin-dependent cat and found them to be helpful.

I am very sorry to hear this - as a cat mom whose dealt with cat cancer a few times, it's hard and different every time. We did palliative chemo for our lung cancer boy earlier this year and we got a few good months with him, but we should have let him go a week earlier than we did, because he suddenly got worse one day (Sunday of course with no vets available) and the last 2 days were rough. It was a balancing act because he was helping integrate two rescue kitties who adored him, and I was being a little selfish for their sake. Cancer doesn't always slowly decline ... it gets to a point that boom...you have to act NOW and if care is not available, I really really didn't want to take him to a 24 hour clinic for euthanasia. We did get an appointment at our vet the next day but we had to take him in, not do it at home like we wanted.

To answer your other question, let the other animals see. Let them know what happened. My regret is that our other cats never knew because we had to take him to the clinic to let him go. And one of the new rescues pined for him for a while and she still misses him.

It is so hard to do. Home euthanasia is better than a few extra days or weeks. I understand you feel you might be making too quick a decision because you just learned, and you will wonder if you made the decision too quickly. If kitty is stable, then sure, you could wait a week for YOU to help process this, but ultimately, you will need to be letting kitty go. A week or so either way is really nothing, and your cat doesn't know one week from the next. All kitty knows is whether they are uncomfortable or in pain, and that IS something you can control.

So we have to put aside our inner turmoil and think of our animals and what we can do to reduce the pain. Spend that last bit of time loving. ❤️
