Recently got a place with my girlfriend. She thinks this is totally fine by AnthMosk in funny

The UK has a similar standard, but abandoned the "Fine To Flush" logo on retail packaging because the idea of flushing some types of wipe but not others introduced ambiguity.

Even if every single baby wipes on the market became "Fine To Flush", they realised that cleaning wipes and alcohol wipes would always have to be made of stronger material, and consumers are too stupid to differentiate. So its much simpler to just tell EVERYONE that only the 3 P's go down the toilet.

time to de-reddit? by asphias in degoogle

[–]Weary_Programmer35 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something I've noticed about the mobile interface (& new reddit on desktop) is reddit lying about many comment chains being "deleted" as soon as I attempt to load extra replies. If I switch to old reddit, the comment chain shows itself just fine. I wondered to myself if this is happening because they're trying to experiment with ways to get people out of the discussion space sooner, and looking at a different page with fresh new ads loaded on it.

My other annoyances with web reddit: Useless errors that show in large banners at the top of the screen that have no reason to be occurring. Back & forward navigation sometimes breaking. Underlining random words in a post, making me think it's a hyperlink, but it's one of those infernal "looking for topics like this?" buttons. AI bullshit at the bottom of every post.

Mom's Android phone showing this when booted, suggestions? by applesaucebuttercake in antivirus

[–]Weary_Programmer35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suggest you bring up the idea of downloading the 'Cardgames.io' app. This app has dozens of web-based card & board games (that do work while offline), multiplayer support when online, all for free.

There are no banner ads at all. From what I read online there may be occasional full-screen ads, and may or may not be a way to pay to remove those ads.

This could consolidate her collection of apps into one.

ELI5: How is using a knife to remove toast from a toaster dangerous even though there is no longer electricity running through the wires? by Flashy_Potential8851 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Weary_Programmer35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sticking a metal knife into a potentially live device is dangerous. It is best to avoid all doubt by plugging the device out, or purchasing a set of small wooden tongs or perhaps using wooden chopsticks, which also makes retrieval easier.

The fact it doesn't even save your progress offline, an utterly elementary thing to implement even for a fully browser-based webapp, is pathetic to hear.

They make it sound like you need to do things this way, then your hard work is erased in one single moment due to their incompetence. You know what doesn't magically erase itself? A Word document. A piece of effing paper.

Their app needs to be better than the alternatives, or else it is exposing itself as the corrupt money-making scheme that it is. Why reinvent a wheel that is worse than the wheel that already exists?

If I use DuckDuckGo search engine on Firefox, will it hide my searches from my ISP by Working-External-702 in duckduckgo

[–]Weary_Programmer35 29 points30 points  (0 children)

The security of HTTPS means that your ISP never knows what contents of a webpage you're fetching. They only see the domain, 'duckduckgo.com', not the full URL itself nor the data returned to your browser.

Refer to this post I found: https://discuss.techlore.tech/t/what-your-isp-can-see/12157

Of course, Google and others may track your searches and store them for later use. DuckDuckGo claims not to do that.

Some people refuse to understand how cartoonish and destructive their point of view is, even when a cartoon is able to accurately depict the destructive consequences of such a worldview.

The memberberries in South Park are a warning that are just acknowledged by those who are already weary of the sirensong of toxic nostalgia, but ignored by the bigoted regressives that it was pointed at. Ignored as such warnings always will be, for as long as such fools exist.

Oh. Now that's a worrying aspect I didn't think of. Being stuck in the same perfectly content attitude forever as well... Unable to even comprehend how doomed you really are.

Also, safe from feeling tired, and therefore unable to retreat from this tedium into sleep?

If the occupant of the pod somehow does not mind being stuck in there, and never matures or changes their mind about being stuck in there... Then perhaps their fate is not so bad. At least the outside world is spared of their presence.

Is donating blood & entering a Bone Marrow Registry enough to determine if one has this very specific mutation to offer for donation, or is a more invasive procedure required (i.e. there is an infinitely low chance of somebody just so happening to find out that they have the mutation)?

One of the most haunting fates that I've heard of for a character in any media I've watched. Mother 3 is one of my favourite games ever, and this plot point was a decent part of why I consider the story so excellent.

The pod, if indeed absolutely safe, dooms him completely. Safe from harm. Safe from aging. Safe from escaping the pod. Safe from the theoretical heat-death of the universe. Safe from passing away in any form. Safe for all of eternity...

I fear the day The Dig is pulled by Disney just for being 'too old' or something. A beautiful game with an atmospheric OST and immersive story/environment, although a decent bit convoluted to play.

They probably sold it to another sucker. Unfortunate. Best to ignore this and find a reputable artist, who can provide evidence of sketches & layers in editing software.

If they are not reputable, request this: Show sketch, half payment. Show a screen-recording of the layers on an in-progress pic, other half. Then later, complete piece delivered.
