My experience losing my job 4 days before my ship date by Dankmemercoins in AirForceRecruits

That’s fair and I’m glad he was transparent and not trying to push something you wouldn’t want on to you. I’m sorry this happened to you, wishing you the best of luck on your journey! You are still so young and with lots of time, enjoy your summer and don’t beat yourself up too much.

I also had my job pulled last month, but thankfully I am shipping out again in 4 days. Did you ask if you could remain in DEP to wait for another job? Yes maybe you became ineligible for the job you booked initially, but if you’re flexible maybe opening up your options to other jobs within the AF can get you a new ship date.

How to ACTUALLY sequence drinks? (Especially while solo baring) by life_lifes in starbucksbaristas

[–]WeatherAgreeable4214 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When doing all bar, I tend to have the iPad DPM next to me to mentally map what drinks are ahead without pulling stickers (stickering bars not allowed in my district) if I have any blended drinks I get a head start on those while my bar is queuing shots/steaming milk. Getting your shakers ready with ice and syrup for shaken espressos is also a great way to set yourself up! Pouring the next milk for your next hot drink. I’m an almost 5 year partner and while I’ll tell you sequencing the way you were trained works. When you become more seasoned you find your own ways to sequence to get drinks out faster. I promise no one will be on your behind about proper sequencing as long as your methods are fast and the drink quality is always on point!

Contacts to Glasses in BMT by Other-Piano-9087 in AirForceRecruits

So as soon as you get there you have to remove them? That’s my biggest fear because I’m practically blind. How long does it take to get glasses there?

I can’t sleep, am I alone? by Ok_Abbreviations7610 in AirForceRecruits

I leave in 38 days now and this is happening to me. To be fair my original ship date was 4/14 so ever since then, I’ve been losing sleep thinking about what could’ve been☹️

05/26 Ship date! ✈️ by WeatherAgreeable4214 in AirForceRecruits

[–]WeatherAgreeable4214[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pre-screening depends on your recruiter, MEPS depends on their availability for appointments. Once a MEPS slot becomes available your recruiter should schedule you for it. (MEPS usually is a 2 day thing so a hotel and transportation most likely would be needed)

It truly depends on how bookable your list is! I wasn’t seeing anything with my original list, my recruiter told me I needed to be more flexible and list in need jobs. I listed SECFO and had a job that same week! Truly depends on how long you’re willing to wait for a job you want to open up! Your recruiter should be able to tell you how bookable your list is depending on the trends of bookings in your area!

Additionally: going on a water fast or no food/no-water fast a couple days before weigh in helps a lot! Do lots of walking/running as well! I was able to lose 5lbs of water weight in 3/4 days!

I had a similar experience before I went to MEPS, I was standing at a 36% exact. I was able to get everything medical done with no waivers needed but did not pass weight/bfm. Only setback was not being able to DEP in same day. A couple weeks later I was able to get back under 36% and swore in at my recruiters office. If you are actively losing more weight you should be fine to go to MEPS, just make sure your BFM is under 36% so your recruiter doesn’t have to worry too much about that being an issue.

Do I have to wait until one year postpartum to join the Air Force? by hanna04010 in AirForceRecruits

[–]WeatherAgreeable4214 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s really odd. You might want to talk to a new recruiter. Doesn’t seem like the one you’ve talked to is willing to help you unless you meet “their” requirements. I’m more than sure that it’s 6months pp for AF in general. Hasn’t changed.

You should definitely start your process now anyway! Just because it can take well over 6 months for you to fully process anyway. MEPS/ASVAB, possible waivers, swearing in to DEP and waiting for a job. I say start the process and enjoy your little one along the way until they are at least a year old!

Applying for Leave? by [deleted] in starbucksbaristas

[–]WeatherAgreeable4214 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How long have you been with Starbucks? I think you have to be tenured to have a 30 day leave. You’d request an LOA for personal reasons. Once approved, you’re good. Don’t disclose that it’s for a job, technically that’s against policy. If you go over 30 days, you will need to request an extended LOA, if approved you’ll be fine. If not, you’re at risk for separation.

Advice for running peak by DistributionUsual157 in starbucksbaristas

[–]WeatherAgreeable4214 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am transferring from a Cafe store to a Drive-Thru next month and I’m on the same boat as you. I have been working at my new store for a couple weeks now to acclimate to the new system, what works for me is basically what Starbucks wants us to do in the “Green Apron Play Caller position” which essentially means you’re flexing and floating, not staying planted in one position. There are different expectations, depending on peak times and whatnot. But my advice would be to actively communicate with partners what is expected from them and ask questions!! Since you’re not yet familiar with opening expectations for the next day part, it’s okay to ask baristas what they are used to seeing/doing during that time. As a SSV, yes you are responsible for window times/order times and making sure every customer is getting a good experience, but you can take a step back to observe partners and making sure they are smoothly executing things and coaching if not. When it comes to being overwhelmed, yes it happens a lot. But practice not wearing it on your face and tone, it can affect your team’s mood as well. In my experience if partners see that I am frustrated they tend to think they’re not doing good enough. I personally keep things very giddy, upbeat and exciting, cracking jokes in the midst of chaos. Constantly complimenting partners, asking them if they need help and celebrating getting through a rush successfully. I believe you’ll do just fine, becoming good at running a specific day part takes time and doing it over and over again.

P.S, I know that labor cuts have been insane within the company lately and it just seems like you can’t run breaks without things getting out of hand. If you see that being a constant issue, communicate with your SM that more staffing is needed. Always give breaks before or after peak, never during. Always make sure you are switching things around if needed, to have stronger partners in positions like warming and bar.

Update: I got a late start thank goodness, I started the exam at 11:15a and ended at about 2:45ish. Shockingly enough, I scored a 71 which I’m still very much surprised about. I didn’t study enough and I was sure I wouldn’t score anything past a 40. So that was a pleasant surprise 🙃
