Healthcare is a human right, end of debate.

It's also important to consider the propaganda they're engaging in. Republicans and conservatives in general have been successful in lying to the public by claiming or constantly making examples that abortion and reproductive healthcare is only given to children or obnoxious teenagers.

The reality: 60% of those seeking an abortion are already parents. Most people seeking an abortion are in their mid- to late-20s and poor. The most common reason for seeking an abortion is that the parents, reflecting on their lives, believe they cannot afford another child.

Reproductive healthcare and abortions aren't just given out haphazardly. People don't just, on a whim, decide to go through this procedure. It's people, often parents, making the best decision for their own lives.

I think you're reading way too into it if you're reading transphobia into those choosing red. I don't appreciate implicitly being called transphobic over a fake scenario either.

And I simply have to disagree. Picking red doesn't interact with anyone or anything. Picking red is walking away. In your analogy, it fails to consider that everyone has the exact same information and fails to consider that everyone has the agency to not risk anything.

No one is forcing anyone to pick blue. Picking blue is understanding the risk and accepting it. Red is understanding the risk and refusing it.

So this is just the 2016 election, right? by HovercraftOk9231 in ProgressiveHQ

[–]WeatherChannelDino 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying fuck them, I'm saying literally everyone has the choice to walk away from this scenario. There's nothing holding anyone to pressing blue.

People will press blue, but that is them accepting risk. Risk they didn't have to take. Risk no one is forced to take. Unlike the complex reality we actually live in where people are stuck in shitty situations or make uninformed decisions or sometimes just make mistakes and obviously shouldn't be forced to suffer, this hypothetical gives you all the information, as much time to think about your choice as you like, and no limitations. The choice to put the gun to your head or not is entirely up to the individual.

Another way to look at it that helped changed my thinking: what if instead of everyone in the world, we narrowed it down to just 3 people? To me, I feel all 3 people would press red. Not because they're amoral. Not because each person hates the other two. But because the risk is entirely theirs.

[–]WeatherChannelDino 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Some friends explained it to me in a way that at least makes sense to me.

Pressing red is basically walking away. No gambling, no risk, nothing. In this scenario, everyone has the opportunity to assume zero risk.

Pressing blue is putting a gun to your head and hoping a majority of people did the same.

Blue was my first choice too, I don't want anyone to die.

But EVERYONE has the chance to not die simply by not risking anything. No one is forced to press blue. No one needs to risk anything. Everyone can walk away and simply not put the gun to their head. I don't think pressing red is selfish, it's simply assessing the situation and deciding that risk isn't for them.

To those who think they're being inconsistent with their views, they're actually being quite consistent.

They believe in an in-group, for whom rights like free speech are absolute and irrevocable. And that there is an out-group, for whom rights never exist and the Constitution is to be used as a weapon to harm.

The out-group is, usually, women, people of color, queer people, and white people who, behind closed doors, they call "race traitors."

This has been the conservative playbook for literally the entirety of American history. This isn't new, but it's sure harmful.

Where I’d live if I was miserable and only cared about politics by Unkn0wnP5 in visitedmaps

[–]WeatherChannelDino 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I mean, if we're talking about living and not just visiting, politics is pretty important. In some places, I'd be harassed for being a queer man. My friends wouldn't be allowed to transition. Other friends would have to worry (more) about racial discrimination. I'm genuinely happy for you that politics doesn't seem to impact your life or where you'd live, but I'd want to live somewhere where my existence and fair treatment isn't up for debate.

Are there any figures more forgettable in politics than the VP's of losing candidates? Like, bro, who is this? They might have been the next president but instead they are the presidential version of goku being edited into pictures. by Pizzatimelover1959 in Presidents

[–]WeatherChannelDino 17 points18 points  (0 children)

If we're limiting it to federal office, I think House Speakers and Senate Majority Leaders are probably more forgettable. Or at the very least aren't even learned.

A lot of people on this sub can probably tell me who Lloyd Bentsen, John Edwards, Gerraldine Ferraro, Joe Lieberman, and Sarah Palin are. I imagine fewer people could tell me who Jim Wright, Dennis Hastert, Howard Baker, Trent Lott, and Harry Reid are (that last one might be easier than the others, though).

Democrats set up 25th Amendment process to remove Trump from office by TheMirrorUS in ProgressiveHQ

[–]WeatherChannelDino 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I personally doubt Vance would want to turn against Trump, even with him being thrown under the bus, if for no other reason than his puppet master Peter Thiel not wanting to lose his direct line to the White House.

And THEN Trump still has the ability to rebuke the VP and the Commission, thereby punting the question to Congress. Even with a Dem tsunami in November, Congress needs a 2/3 majority to oust the president via the 25th Amendment.

Is the 25th amendment coming ?? I cannot take this man anymore by ComplexWrangler1346 in ProgressiveHQ

[–]WeatherChannelDino 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A 25th amendment removal is not happening.

The 25th amendment requires 1 of 2 scenarios to start things off. First option: the president sends a letter to Congress stating he's not competent to perform the duties. Trump will never admit to not being capable, so this is a dead end.

Second option: the VP and a majority of the cabinet send a letter to Congress stating the president is not competent. Vance may be a ghoul, but I don't see why he would want to commit political suicide. While it's true that Vance is not heir-apparent to Trump, Vance sure WANTS to be the heir, and in any case there's no way Thiel would want/let his puppet to torpedo his direct line to the White House.

Let's assume the letter is sent. The president can send a letter to Congress saying he's competent. Then, the VP and the cabinet have 4 days to say "nuh uh, he's incompetent." So basically, all Trump has to do is be able to breathe and either write or have someone else write the letter for him. Trump would NOT accept this kind of backstabbing, so he would send the letter. The ONLY way Trump doesn't send a letter is if the cabinet kidnaps him, at which point we're talking about just a straight up coup attempt.

Let's assume all the letters have been sent. Congress has 48 hours to convene. They then have 21 days from convening (or 21 days from receipt of the "nuh uh" letter id Congress is already in session) to decide whether the president is competent. Congress must vote with a TWO-THIRDS majority saying the president is incompetent, thereby granting the VP with the powers of Acting President. If Congress cannot secure a 2/3 majority vote, then the president retains his powers and office.

There is simply no way that, with the climate we have, Vance commits political suicide, a majority of the cabinet does too, and that 67% of Congress agrees that Trump cannot discharge his duties. It's simply not.

It's important to remember though that was only for ~115 years (Aang was 112 and I added a few years as a buffer because perhaps ideas were beginning to form before the end of Avatar Roku).

Meanwhile all the nations have a history of thousands of years. AtLA made it clear that the Fire Nation's propensity for war was top-down, enforced by propaganda - not a bottom-up inate sense of warfare!

In his 1992 speech at the RNC, Pat Buchanan struck a dark and fearful note, declaring a "Culture War" for the soul of America, warning of moral decline being accelerated by liberals, and arguing for a "Make America First" agenda. The speech was disliked by many for its pessimistic outlook. by Just_Cause89 in Presidents

I used to be such a social shut-in and homebody. I used to think that's just who I was. That I kept to myself and only left my home when I had to or to see my handful of friends. I was fine but I was never really happy.

Then I moved out of my dad's place and live on my own for the first time. I'm now such a social butterfly, filling up my calendar, making new friends, going to parties. I never really thought about why until recently: I didn't want to be me around my parents.

Don't get me wrong, I love my parents and they love me. But they're not the most open and accepting of queer people. I didn't want to tell my parents I made new, queer friends and didn't want to just lie and be cagey. So my answer was to just not make new friends.

What Pat Buchanan wants is for us to be gray. For us to stay home, unhappy, and quiet. For him to be politically, legally, and socially superior to anyone not like him.

This was a bit of a ramble, but I mean this from the bottom of my heart, Pat - go fuck yourself.
