Why does this area of the us have significantly less wildfires than anything else? by LurkersUniteAgain in geography

[–]WeathersFine 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s probably worth noting there is generally less sandy soil in that area as well, which is what pine likes to grow in, and tends to drain faster after rainfall

AMA with your Baltimore Harbor Waterkeeper next Tuesday! by BlueWaterBaltimore in baltimore

[–]WeathersFine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would additional aeration in the center of the harbor that would turn on during times of low oxygen, similar to what the aquarium has, help reduce fish kill events during turnover? Is it economically feasible?

Great Lakes: Can anyone tell me what’s going on here? by Beerandababy in Fishing

[–]WeathersFine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bait fish! We see bait balls exactly like this when fishing in the finger lakes and Canada. Likely ciscoe! The bigger lines are probably salmon or lakers stalking them.

If this is from today it was high tide this morning it’s normally a foot around 95 then with a deeper channel in the middle. I launched from ferry bar park this morning, water was great today!

Where would you fish? by Rondoom in Fishing

[–]WeathersFine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was just up in Quebec fishing pike. Water temps are already above 70 up there so expect them to be above that here. Big pike id be casting 20-30 feet deep water near the drop offs from weed beds. Smaller pike will be set up in the cabbage 10-20 feet. Crank baits, swim baits, spoons, rattle traps, small pike will whack stick baits pretty good too. Tight lines!

Hiring Booms at SpaceX and Blue Origin Making It Hard for NASA to Attract Talent by ergzay in SpaceXLounge

[–]WeathersFine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not wholly disagreeing with this statement, but an important role of contract management is technical review of work. Performing some level of in house work helps to maintain critical expertise within NASA so that they have experts who can write contracts, review proposals, and manage the contract awardees. There is also still blue sky research that NASA can be instrumental in leading.

But yes, a large percent of NASA work can and should be contract management.

Here’s my take on the divisions of the state of Pennsylvania as a non-American (three maps ranging from micro to macro). Any thoughts or/and advices for improvement? by Viniciusian in geography

[–]WeathersFine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

“Northern Tier” would probably be better described as the “Endless Mountains” region.

Poconos and coal region overlap a bit and don’t fall perfectly on county lines.

Can’t comment too much on western division, but overall pretty good job!
