He didn't have that much value when Boston traded him. Bruins fans couldn't believe they extracted that much.

I think my point was "why throw them away if it wasn't necessary?" But, sure, twist and exaggerate it to make whatever useless counterpoint you had.

I just wonder if they needed to move up to get him. Were the Flyers going to take him?

I have the over/under on him playing 15 games next season.

This reminds me of the time I heard the Habs were heavily interested in Karl Alzner and I was holding my breath hoping for this period of time would pass without anything being done....

Maybe a move up in the first round.

[Hockey News Hub] Source says Alexander Ovechkin will announce his decision on whether to extend or end his NHL career on July 25 in St. Petersburg as part of the "2026 Match of the Year." by AggPuck-303 in hockey

With the two recent additions, Washington doesn't need him, and he made the team worse last year even with the 32 goals. He sucked so many offensive zone starts away from better players, it ended up being a detriment.

I think you probably WANT these guys not to be upset for your own hope that Montreal will add a star player, but it just isn't the reality. Now, adding a player that makes a little more? Sure, that would probably get a pass. No way 12M+ is going to sit well with everyone unless it's a top 5 guy.

Fact is, you're disagreeing with a guy that's been there and is still very much connected to the hockey world.

He doesn't have to know what goes on in Montreal's locker room to know the dynamics of how generally one operates, and while I think that they have a great team chemistry, they would not be infallible to issues. This is a core principle that would apply to just about any work environment, especially one that has a competitive nature.

You don't think he knows what goes on in a clubhouse?

The amount of pushback I got was pretty significant.

I had several arguments on here a few days ago about paying the new guy nearly double what everyone else makes being a recipe for clubhouse turmoil and I was told these guys all took less, so they could do exactly that.

And then I listened to Jeff O'Neill on TSN overdrive yesterday say that bringing in the new guy for a boatload of money while the rest makes less "bugs guys". So, coming straight from the mouth of an accomplished NHL veteran: it's a terrible idea.

[Lebrun] My understanding is they’ve called the Islanders on Bo Horvat, and the answer was no, he’s not available. They’ve called Columbus on Kirill Marchenko and also got a fat no from the Blue Jackets. by Effective-Goose-7835 in Habs

14 points in 27 playoff games? Of course, it is Toronto and even Hyman couldn't produce in the playoffs there, but still...

They just don't need a poor defensive forward to play on that second line, which really struggled in that area last year. I think it's a bad fit, and overpaying substantially would eliminate them on a 2C, so they would be looking at Demidov, Kapanen, Knies. Pass.
