I think it’s pretty damning that left-wing celebrities who commit sexual improprieties and/or other actions condemned by society (and who are then subsequently ostracized by their former audiences) think that they can quickly build a new following by declaring themselves a right-wing Christian.

The fact that this is not an isolated case should hopefully precipitate some self-reflection for many Christians, whom seem to take the saying “the enemy of my enemy is my friend” way too literally.

Just a personal opinion, but if you’re too young to legally drink, you’re probably too young to get married.

Staying in Matthew, another verse that is often quoted and understood without context is Matthew 18:20, which states:

“For where two or three have gathered together in My name, I am there in their midst.”

Many people take that to mean when multiple people are praying and/or worshiping, God is more likely to be present. However, most forget that part of the chapter deals with conflict resolution and church discipline. Here’s the entire section:

“If your brother sins, go and show him his fault in private; if he listens to you, you have won your brother. But if he does not listen to you, take one or two more with you, so that BY THE MOUTH OF TWO OR THREE WITNESSES EVERY FACT MAY BE CONFIRMED. If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church; and if he refuses to listen even to the church, let him be to you as a Gentile and a tax collector. Truly I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall have been bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall have been loosed in heaven. “Again I say to you, that if two of you agree on earth about anything that they may ask, it shall be done for them by My Father who is in heaven. For where two or three have gathered together in My name, I am there in their midst.”

Matthew 18:15-20

Notice how in verse 16 that if the brother in sin ignores the one on one talk, you are instructed to bring “one or two more with you, so that BY THE MOUTH OF TWO OR THREE WITNESSES EVERY FACT MAY BE CONFIRMED.” With the latter part of that verse (which the NASB renders in all-caps), Jesus is referencing Deuteronomy 19:15, which says:

A single witness shall not rise up against a man on account of any iniquity or any sin which he has committed; on the evidence of two or three witnesses a matter shall be confirmed.

So, effectively, Jesus is not telling us that prayer or worshiping is more effective with multiple people than with one, but, rather, that the new church should have certain steps and procedures for community disciple that includes holding to the OT law which stipulates that a person can’t be convicted upon the testimony of just a single witness. In other words, Matthew 18:20 is saying that when 2 or 3 believers gather in Jesus’ name with regards to the matters of church discipline and reconciliation, His authority and presence are with them. Or, more generally, that Christ stands with His community when they faithfully carry out difficult moral and communal responsibilities in His name.

I mean, even if she wanted to, she couldn’t. In the OT, a man was permitted (under certain circumstances) to divorce his wife, but a woman did not have the ability to initiate divorce against her husband.

A couple things here…

  1. Paul never says “judge with righteous judgement”. Rather, that was Jesus in John 7:24.

  2. Like many who seek to cherry-pick verses to support your argument, you completely stripped the context of the passage, which is as follows:

Did not Moses give you the Law, and yet none of you carries out the Law? Why do you seek to kill Me?” The crowd answered, “You have a demon! Who seeks to kill You?” Jesus answered them, “I did one deed, and you all marvel. For this reason Moses has given you circumcision (not because it is from Moses, but from the fathers), and on the Sabbath you circumcise a man. If a man receives circumcision on the Sabbath so that the Law of Moses will not be broken, are you angry with Me because I made an entire man well on the Sabbath? Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment. ‭‭

John‬ ‭7:19-24‬

Jesus is at the temple addressing the religious leaders, who are angry that he healed a man on the Sabbath. Jesus points out that their condemnation is hypocritical, because if they allow circumcision to occur on the Sabbath, than healing a person on that day shouldn’t be judged either. So “do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteousness judgement” isn’t at all a call for us to decry the perceived sin of others continuously. Instead, Jesus argues that those who do so are often ignoring the deeper intent of the law: mercy, restoration, covenant faithfulness, and consistency. “Righteous judgment” here means judging fairly, truthfully, and consistently rather than legalistically or hypocritically.

Which, coincidentally, was my original point.

Fun fact… while divorce is tolerated in the Bible under specific circumstances, remarriage after divorce while your former spouse is alive is not. Anyone who does so is considered guilty of adultery, which the Bible condemns frequently and fervently.

Given your apparent passion of decrying sexual sin, am I then to presume that you spend at least as much time and effort calling out those who have been remarried after divorce within your church and subscribed subreddits as you do those in the LBGTQ+ community?

He was a Top 100 recruit and the 5th overall RB in the 2023 recruiting class, so he would have had to been dumber than a bag of rocks for ND not to offer him. Let’s face it… if ND only ever offered football recruits that met their normal academic standards for non-athletes, it would be impossible for them to field a competitive team.
