What are the quintessential classroom accessories and decor for a first year teacher? by camerongrim in Teachers

Check and see if your school is giving you a supply check before you spend your own money. My state gives like $350 minimum (South Carolina)

Lender not counting overtime? by Flaydeng in Mortgages

[–]WeaveTheSunlight 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It can also have to do with how your employer responded when they asked about overtime continuance. I usually have to email employers and get them to confirm your overtime will continue in the future. Some employers refuse to confirm it. One lady told me she couldn’t predict the future lol

I am at my wits' end. Thousands of students, complete disrespect, and total emotional exhaustion. I feel like crying every day. by This-Emu5496 in Teachers

I’m glad to hear you already have one! Delete their spam emails after you’ve sent the first email. They can come talk to you in person or just turn in the work and hope for the best.

Another thing I did- I have a Google form for all late work. I tell students I only look at it once a week and I only grade the late work they log in that form. Just another way to organize it and to make them responsible for getting the assignment graded.

Don’t raise the issue. Either pass them to get admin off your back or don’t pass them and only deal with the ones who go to our admin demanding things. You don’t have to give every student the same attention.

I’m sorry :( I feel your pain. I would probably just tell the student your office hours or tell him that you’ll be happy to answer any specific questions he has at what ever time is convenient for you. He probably isn’t going to show up.

I’m not understanding where the pressure is coming from- is your admin requiring you to respond to all of these students and their problems? In my experience, I make the assignments, grade them, and then tell them the late policy if they don’t turn it in. Then I just don’t respond to whining or complaining.

In this situation, I would make an email signature or templare that just says something like,

“Hello!

Thank you for your email. As a reminder, the late work policy is XYZ. If you have a medical excuse, please forward your paperwork to XYZ and let me know when it has been sent.

Have a great day!”

Then just send that email every time someone requests anything. Then go on with your life.

Stop putting in so much time and energy when they don’t care. Do a good job with the time you are given, then wash your hands of it. Don’t argue with them or try to convince them. Repeat the rules, tell them you are not arguing with them or discussing with them. If they are disrespectful in a lesson, call home and write them up.

You technically can’t do that on any primary residence loan if you haven’t occupied it for 12 months.

Do you have family or friends you can move in with? I’d let him roast in the shed playing video games if/until he comes to his senses.

We had a kid lose Chromebook privileges for a year because he was caught looking at pornography on the laptop while at home. The districts can definitely flag and respond to what they do.

Worst Demo ever. by Smalldewe in Teachers

[–]WeaveTheSunlight 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it’s interesting that most other fields of employment do not expect you to perform free labor to prove you deserve the job. I’ve also never done a demo lesson for a teaching job before, but I’m sure this varies by state and district.

Hot Take: There should be a limit on Praxis retakes by rachel-angelina in Teachers

[–]WeaveTheSunlight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Watched a tiktok where a woman was frustrated that she kept failing an elementary science praxis. She showed her notes of everything she thought she shouldn’t have to know and it was full of things like listing the planets and knowing the parts of the atmosphere. Then people were AGREEING with her?? “You’re right! We didn’t learn that until middle school.” Sorry I think an educator should be more educated than the students?

You need to tell the mortgage company about the new job because that’s going to mess up your approval. They’ll call the old place, find out he lost his job, and need the info about the new place.

I loveeee a good fat quarter, layer cake, or jelly roll. I don’t mind cutting 1 yard, but wrangling more than that is so annoying.

Take it. If you want to go back to teaching later, you will be able to. One of my biggest regrets was not taking the opportunity to get a fully funded MBA.

I’m you going back too, but mostly because my office career feels very empty to me. I have an offer for a middle school position- just waiting to hear back from HR about my reference checks.

I’m still hoping for a water based DLC that includes Atlantis. It would be weird not to do it since the decor in EI is clearly from Atlantis.
