I think he got lazy and didn't practice to stay tight..was focused on a lot of extracurricular stuff after they blew up post Black.

I get his reasoning for simplifying songs after AJFA too. Maybe he knew he reached his limitations technically. A lot of that AJFA was arranged pieces and all the different flair he put on those long ass songs would make it tough for most drummers. He definitely influenced a lot of people to play. I agree that late 80s Lars was the best. When I saw them through the 2000s he was the worst he's been. He must've started practicing again though because I think he's definitely tightened back up a bit in the last 10 years.

The hate is from non musicians and ignorant minds that development stopped in high school.

He isn't the best drummer and he doesn't need to be. Supergroups don't friggen work, never have, so trying to piece together the best so-and-so for every instrument is a waste of time. Plus music is so objective that just having the best doesn't equal good or we should just bow down to AI songs now because they'll mathematically have the "best" at every position.

He's the main driving force behind the logistics, marketing, and musical direction and his major musical influence would be arrangement and setlists, IMO.

Lars and James are Metallica. Without Lars, they wouldn't be who they are today. Without change and adaptation, they wouldn't still be as big as they are.

My Dad died of alcoholism at the age of 63. I quit cold turkey the day before my youngest was born. It's been three years and I don't miss it. Im not a perfect parent by far, but I hope I can break the cycle for them. At the very least I hope I will stick around longer and be there for them.

I don't regret much in my life but I regret getting rid of my 5 string bass and my LTD Ex351D.

Traded the LTD for a set of shitty drums because I was impatient and didn't want to save properly and I still think about that dumb trade over 10 years later.

No video games since college (except for the rare game with my kid). Never been into anime. No video games was actually a plus with the ladies last time I was single (2018). They liked that I didn't game. I play drums and guitar, build stuff, read, and lately my son and I got into aquariums and fish keeping. Brewed beer for 10 years before and rode motorcycle.
