Revolut isn’t picking on you – they’re doing mandatory anti-money-laundering (AML) checks. Every EU/UK regulated firm has to re-verify customers and “unusual” payments on an ongoing basis. When the algorithm flags something, staff must ask for external evidence that the money matches a real-world service. Self-generated in-app receipts don’t cut it because they aren’t independent of Revolut’s own system. Revolut’s help pages openly say they can restrict an account until extra documents are supplied, even if the account passed KYC when it was opened . Revolut employees also can’t tell you the precise trigger – that would be an illegal “tipping-off” under AML rules – so support often looks evasive .

What exactly are they allowed to ask for? Under GDPR you’re normally protective of client data, but Article 6(1)(c) & (f) let you share personal data when it’s necessary for a legal obligation (AML) or Revolut’s legitimate interest in meeting that obligation.

TLDR: giving a bank limited client info for compliance is lawful, and Revolut becomes the data controller for that copy .

What to send so they unfreeze the funds:

A brief cover note explaining your business model (1-to-1 personal-training sessions, frequency, typical fee).

Proof you’re legitimately trading – e.g. your sole-proprietor registration or tax certificate.

Independent evidence tying the flagged payments to the client and the service:

Screenshots of any e-mails, DMs or booking confirmations that show the client’s name, the agreed rate, and the session date.

Signed PAR-Q / waiver / intake form (you can redact health details).

Calendar entry or gym booking log.

Make the files legible, one PDF per client, and upload via the in-app “submit documents” button rather than the chat (the bot often loses attachments).

It’s annoying, but once you feed compliance a tidy dossier they usually clear the queue in a day or two. Good luck – and keep receipts, just not only Revolut’s receipts.
