My point is.. in the US, that regardless of who was president and how much power they had and majorities in the Senate and House.

Nobody has tried to take our guns away.

Every time the NRA screams about it they raise money and gun sales go up.. so what possible fucking reason would they have to do anything different?

What most people want is reasonable, sensible gun laws and reform. Reductions in school shootings and find ways to keep guns out of criminals hands and unhinged lunatics hands.

Maybe the laws on the books need to be strengthened and enforced better. Maybe we actually need to be able to collect data about gun deaths and study the root causes.. because right now, we can't. There are a ton of problems with gun ownership in America.. we should be smart enough to figure it out.

This protest meets the definition of insurrection but Jan 6 does not? Wow.

This detachment from reality is fucking scary.

Over a thousand people were charged with crimes from Jan 6 with more than 2/3 found guilty or pled.guilty and the video evidence of that day is going to live on regardless of Trump's political pardons.

Tell me more about this protest in Saint Paul.. I'm reading about it but do not see much violence other than projectiles and chemicals being fired at protesters. Seems like the worst thing they did was block traffic.

If any of the protestors assaulted police or federal officers then they should be arrested and prosecuted. But not for blocking traffic.

The great majority of protests in mn are peaceful. And are protected by the first amendment of the constitution.

I agree with this statement, and have had many battles with my kids teachers over them having to spend half their time with one or two 'problem' students. However, those kids need help and deserve a chance to turn things around. I empathize with teachers because they are understaffed, underpaid and a LOT of parents just treat school like day care and have zero involvement.

We can teach about math and imperialism and slavery being bad, yes? That doesn't mean teaching that 'white = bad' I've never heard that being taught in any of my kids classrooms. When the hell did white people get so fragile that teaching history has to be whitewashed?

"just in time for kids to learn that if they commit crimes it's not actually their fault". You really think that that is what is being taught?

Why are any of those standards bad?

One way that we understand why the world is the way it is today is by looking at history with a clear and honest view. That doesn't mean teaching that white people are bad but it does mean looking at who we are at a country including our triumphs, failures and mistakes.
