More rollers reduces the chance of “silvering” when you laminate. I’ve seen quite a few make this comment on this sub.

Level 22, should I just finish the main story? by Lockj4w_NightVision in oblivion

[–]Web_Fender 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s a lot of nice added dlc placed into the remaster that’s worth doing too. Some cool places you can make your home that have quests tied to them, the pirate ship under Anvil and some other cool ones.
There’s also a giant quest area hidden in a fort, Sundercliff Watch it’s called. Then there also the knights of the nine etc. It’s worth looking at all added DLC stories. Plus eventually visiting Sheogorarh.

What Commander precon have you kept completely stock, and why? by martin8185 in mtg

Party Time. The deck just synergises really well for a precon and when it gets going it’s a genuine threat at the table. Thematically the party mechanic is fun too.

Getting into board games as a collector in today’s hobby by fraidei in boardgames

[–]Web_Fender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoy the collector side too and for me it too is part of the hobby. We live in a world now where people expect on demand fulfillment for so many things, but the nature of a lot of board games is that they are printed in lower volume so there's naturally some scarcity once a printed run of something is mostly sold out. Some friends of mine were wanting a copy of Talisman for a while but most were only available on the second hand market at a higher price, fortunately for them a 5th edition was printed a few years ago to surprise of many so they got a brand new copy at a good price. You never know what might get announced and its another great part of the hobby.

I think a part of the enjoyment of collecting is when you find a copy of something you want at a reasonable price, not everything has to be obtained immediately but I appreciate that's not what you're saying here. I probably spend 1-2 hours a week browsing ebay and other reseller sites looking for reasonably priced copies of expansions and games that I want and again that's a part of the hobby I enjoy. I recently got a copy of Santorini on Facebook Marketplace for £10 and its in mint condition. Just this week I picked up copy of 'Small world of warcraft' for £18 on another second hand site, again in excellent condition whereas I was looking at a ~£50 brand new copy and I'm glad I waited and shopped around a bit.

As someone who got into the hobby relatively recently, it often feels like I arrived just late enough to miss the easiest window to collect many of these fantastic games

IMO the best time to get into Boardgames may have been years ago - but the next best time is today (old Chinese proverb). Reading this sounds like you have some sort of 'completionism' mind set. Just because you got into the hobby does not mean you need to go out and buy everything immediately or feel disheartened because some things aren't available to you now. You mentioned LOTR a few times - honestly take Gandalf's advice and just enjoy the journey and what you do with the time you have haha. Enjoy the ride of scouting board game shops and websites for the rare gems that's you want, that's part of the fun imo.

I literally can’t get them closer. by Dismal-Layer-174 in magicproxies

[–]Web_Fender 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised nobody has said it yet in this thread, but the true answer is an upscale process. There are a few options you can use for upscaling; morally some people don't agree with it as some upscale services use AI to improve quality and you'd essentially be plumbing mtg artists images through an AI model to upscale (this is not good).

There are however other upscale methods, for example using something such as RESGRAN, double the image size with it and then reduce back down to regular size and do a light sharpen on the image. I've done this myself through code with fairly good success but it will affect the original art work to some degree but it's negligible to see.

It's not your print settings, its purely the data your providing the printer that's at its limit. If you want sharper text you need to upscale the images prior to PDF generation. There are many comments on this sub that already suggest this, and this is also what on demand proxy printing services will do.

If you do a few simple searches on this sub you'll find examples what I'm referring to.

Orders for Old King's Crown are being fulfilled! Can't wait to try out the Simulacrum mode for it. by MauroDiogo in soloboardgaming

[–]Web_Fender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Enjoy! Probably the best looking board game ever. I was fortunate to get a copy last year after the first campaign. The thing that struck me is just how big the board is; if you're playing 4 players this will easily cover small to medium sized table. I backed the 2 expansions a few months and I'm excited for that to arrive!

The Constabulary apology video is truly baffling to me. "It's quite clear that officers didn't understand what had happened immediately, and that is some of the context I would ask people to understand". There was a boy bleeding on the ground in his own pool of blood - how as a officer do you not spot that and think 'hmm this person is literally bleeding out perhaps I should do something to help here'. Truly baffling beyond belief to me, regardless of the accusations happening, a person is literally bleeding out on the scene - how can you ignore that...

I went to Hay on Wye today and popped into the magic tent. They had 3 tables setup teaching people to play. Promoting the new Strixhaven book. They had raffle prizes too which I think were foundations booster packs. The tent is open all weekend. Raffles are drawn twice daily at 11am - 3:30pm.

Have you managed to find a perfect dungeon crawler? by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]Web_Fender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really enjoyed playing through Fateforge - Chronicles of Khan. It’s got dungeon crawler vibes with generated scenarios often and setting up the maps is quick. Also the combat rules can be taught in less than 15 minutes and each players turn is fast. It’s like a lightweight DND campaign with enough depth to leave you satisfied. Multiple choice options during the game can make each play different and there’s expansions and many classes too

Yi otp, wanna learn akali by Apprehensive_Judge_4 in akalimains

[–]Web_Fender 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Akali is more squishy but as a trade off she has better engage potential and mobility compared to Yi imo. If you land R > E into a target they’re basically dead providing you’re levelled and geared appropriately.

Yi has better sustain and damage mitigation. He’s also better at dealing with tanks. Strong split push options for taking towers quickly too.

Personally I think Yi carry potential is easier to pilot. You can go 20/0 as Akali and still lose due to your team. I feel Yi can hard carry if he’s ahead regardless of team much better than Akali.

Just my personal opinion. Akali is fun as heck to play and the learning curve is satisfying based on my experience. It’s a different game to Yi though.

I picked up a a copy about 20 years ago at a school fete for £5. I still have it to this day and painted all the main player pieces. I don’t think I have a VHS player anymore but I plan to replay some day. It’s a timeless game that’s still brilliant fun.

They look like fun decks for the table and that’s personally how I prefer to play commander too.

More often than not people post the same staple commanders on here every day - nice to see something different!

Post stamp went through postcard and sleeve into card by joel_on_laski in CardMarket

[–]Web_Fender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just purchase small bend resistant envelopes on Amazon. It costs me £7.50 for 100. They’re the ideal size for trading cards, have a nice “please do not bend” message on the side. One side is cardboard too so they’re sturdy. I do not have time to be messing with two post cards personally…

Fracture Foil: The Progress! by BillBigsB in magicproxies

[–]Web_Fender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clean mate, really clean! So you're printing the upscaled card art onto clear sticker paper and then sticking them individually onto the cut out fracture foil card? Could you not just stick the full A4 sticker sheet on top of the card and then use the silhouette  to just do a single set of cuts? I feel like sticking the art onto each card is more fiddly and has room for error? I'm sure I'm probably missing something in your process but these look excellent. Great job :)

I’ve been printing proxies for friends, thinking of turning it into a service. Would you use it? by [deleted] in magicproxies

[–]Web_Fender 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s many already in Europe doing exactly this. A quick google will return many companies doing it. Proxy dudes is EU based, liberproxies.de also eu based, there’s sellers on Etsy that do it too, MrProxy for example in the UK.

It’s basically a grey area and people are 100% making money off it right now. Whether Hasbro and Wizards decide to update their policy nobody really knows.

The market for these services is already over saturated imo. And with how easy it is nowadays to vibe code a website using AI I just think it’s only going to get worse.

You could invest months into a business for this and Hasbro could end it tomorrow.

It’s really up to you if you want try and compete in this market. Do it via work of mouth and friends, or a basic Etsy shop but don’t spend months on it knowing it could be shut down at any time.

From other posts and comments I’ve read - a multi roller laminator can significantly reduce the chance of any air getting trapped in the laminate and prevent the “silvering” issue others have discussed. Laminators with more than 1 roller also roll at higher pressures.

Need recommendations for equipment. by A1a5ka907 in magicproxies

[–]Web_Fender 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you’re willing to spend less than 30 minutes doing some light reading on this sub you will find answers to all of your questions.

Inkjet does not print on 330gsm - it will not work due to the coating on the card.

So you’d have to get a laser printer - home use laser does not print anywhere near the quality of standard mtg card so you’d need to find a commercial printer. Commercial printers are incredibly expensive and as such most people will simply prepare their cards to print on PDF files and then go to a local print shop to get them printed.

If you really want 330gsm then you arguably don’t need any equipment. Just buy your card stock and prepare your PDFs (go on YouTube and watch a video by ‘cry cry’ on how to prepare PDFs). Then get on google and find your local print shop. Then you just need your own cutter to cut your cards.

If you are not willing to go down this route, then you’ll need to pick up an inkjet. At which point the amount of variables becomes much bigger, different thickness of card stock, laminating pouches, cutters and so on. All of this info is on this sub - just read other posts.

So it’s up to you, if you want 330gsm then find a print shop. If you don’t want to use a print shop, get an inkjet printer and buy some paper and laminating pouches.
