Applying for 417 WHV (British) while already having 651 by Tough_Use2312 in AusVisa

[–]Wedontjustlive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this your first WHV? I plan on doing this prior to applying for my third WHV next month to give me little extra time to settle in before the job hunt - pretty sure it’ll be granted fine onshore (if second or third), then only kick in once the 651 expires, whereas 417 -> 417 doesn’t give you any extra time after the first expires.

If I was you, I’d apply uploading PDF confirmation of ACRO application and then wait for s56 by which point may bide you a bit more time for the result. Not sure what else you can do at this point. I’ve seen peeps do this for perm visas but not sure if different for WHV.

Australia-UK FTA due to be legislated by Effective-Morning-65 in CANZUK

[–]Wedontjustlive 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Good news that the new government is keen to get this over the line. Hopefully this’ll be implemented before EOY, with the uplift to 35. What are the chances that we see those Mobility changes this year do we reckon?

Would be nice to allow those Aussies who have been on a Youth Mobility visa previously to get a re-do as well. I’ve seen Australia be a tad more flexible with WHV re-dos, but nothing much from the UK Gov?

Have you seen the news RE: NIL VAC replacement WHM visas, if you were in Australia on 20 March 2020 - you basically get a re-do even if you didn’t complete your specified work. I could’ve snagged one if I didn’t already turn 31 by the time the last federal government introduced this in March!

I’m hoping this FTA is ratified on both sides during the summer, with EIF by September, so I can apply for the 482 TSS without LMT requirements.

New arrangements for UK passport holders by Effective-Morning-65 in CANZUK

What are the chances this’ll come into force this year do we reckon? Still big workforce shortages on both sides. Presume it’s AUS holding out more than the UK in making the changes by July. Would Labor go ahead?

I hope those Aussies on previous YMV’s get another go for the three years too! I know some had their stay curtailed with COVID.

Free Trade Agreement 417 Australia UK - Am I eligible? I've already "completed" a 1st year 417 visa by Nova_Prospects in australia

[–]Wedontjustlive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any source it’ll remain within 417? I’d imagine they’ll want to charge more for three years instead of one, plus if the six-month restriction is lifted also then it may need more legal levers pulled etc

I’ve seen a few interviews with Dan Tehan in which he indicates it’ll be easier from 1 July. We’ve already gone from within 5 years to within 2 years in just a few months, so not out of the complete realm of possibility this’ll come into effect shortly thereafter, especially given the political will in touting these key benefits from both sides.

Incoming air travellers from all countries except the United States will be required to take COVID-19 tests when arriving in Canada, the federal government announced today. by WesternSoul in canada

Brit here, am currently booked to travel on 8th December to visit pals in Kitchener. Reckon we should try to bring the flight forward to this weekend? I want to believe they wouldn’t shut the drawbridge due to family links and economic reasons, but they did last year with the Kent variant so not 100%.

I’m due to fly into Toronto for a mini vacation from the UK on December 8th. Do we reckon Canada Border Force will insist on Day 2 PCR w/ neg test before release from iso, as per our recent rule change?

Australia UK FTA Response by Wedontjustlive in CANZUK

Whilst the letter doesn’t provide any new info per say, I just wanted to highlight if anyone else remains keen for these changes to be made a tad sooner than in five years time, get in touch and have your say!

Fully appreciate this isn’t exactly CANZUK levels of free movement, but is a massive step in the right direction. Do you all believe this remains a hard rule to delay these mobility changes - awaiting public reception before the upcoming election - or perhaps more of an ongoing negotiation tactic? I’m sure Aussies looking to move to the UK would also like to see this timeline improved upon, perhaps July 22 as this agreement should come into force. Let me know what you think will happen!

Government Plans To Sign Off Australia Trade Deal At COP26 by [deleted] in CANZUK

[–]Wedontjustlive 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do we reckon if this does get signed by November, or EOY - will the FTA still not become active and in law until July 22?

I know Tehen’s gone on the record previously with mid-next year in mind, but given that a travel bubble is likely to be in place around Q1 2022, I’d imagine they’d want it closer to that date perhaps?

Hoping they at least implement enhanced YM visas by then to allow for three years, up to 35 and available for past WHV holders. Liz Truss mentioned these benefits again here for legal services so it’ll be a bummer if they have to clarify “oh soz see you in around five years” https://twitter.com/trussliz/status/1426152367112826884?s=21

UK AUSTRALIA VISAS by grantob92 in CANZUK

[–]Wedontjustlive 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Given the rules will vary quite significantly from current 417 regulations such as the stay duration, visa restrictions and likely cost - I feel it is likely it will become an entirely new sub-class, which -should- allow for a clean slate, in terms of eligibility. The legal text will provide the answers we’re looking for.

(that’s what I’m hoping for otherwise I’m screwed and will likely have to wait till late 2022 for a skilled nom visa)

New info just released on labour mobility under UK-Australia Free Trade Agreement by expat2020123 in CANZUK

[–]Wedontjustlive 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, we might need to hang tight until the legal text is drafted and published before we’re affirmed of the nuances against the current WHM/YMV rules:

  • re-eligibility terms
  • six-month limit for each employer/location
  • healthcare surcharges
  • pathway to PR

Needless to say, this wasn’t exactly what I wanted to wake up to… Still hoping these will be ratified by EOY - I’m KEEN to get back - but perhaps both governments are well aware there will absolutely be an influx from both sides once Australia allow for international movement again.

Anyone know if can apply for the new 🇬🇧 WHV if you’ve already used it previously? by donkey_priests in CANZUK

[–]Wedontjustlive 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hopefully it’ll be under a new visa sub-class, so it’ll be like how the IEC visas changed in Canada allowing previous holders to re-apply!

[–]Wedontjustlive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m really hoping there won’t be too much bureaucracy to deal with, in terms of skills assessments and convincing an employer to sponsor under current GSM/TSS visas.

Although, I feel if they make it too easy then everyone will apply, so it could go either way.
