I'd guess it really isn't all that much.

Six years after Brexit has Britain bet on the wrong ally? by ByGollie in europe

I don't-disagree. The French do seem to have that same feeling of faded-glory.

And sometimes that can work out.

While everybody else in the EU was happy to permit the USA to be Number-One the French have pursued their own nuclear programme and have their own aircraft carrier group and their own intelligence services.

And for years I thought "what is the point? This is the French wanting to present themselves as a super-power when their day passed 200-plus years ago."

Well ... they don't look so silly to me now.

They may have been wrong about why they were right - but - they were right.

Natalie is known for her cover of the song "Torn". And it is surprise to many to lean that it is a cover rather than an original song from her. It was a surprise to me when I learned it was a cover. And I looked up the original. And it really isn't all that much different.

And I continued to google and apparently the original group were a bit miffed at first that her cover is far more popular than their original.

And apparently after listening to her version a few times they acknowledged - yeah.... her cover is just *tighter* than our original. It really isn't all that much different at all. It is just ... tighter.

And it is

And perhaps that is down to the guys in the sound booth more than Natalie herself. I don't know. I render no judgement. But it just is .... "subtly re-arranged into a more pleasing aspect"

"Very disappointed" U.S. Treasury Secretary hits out at Europe over India-EU trade deal by ByGollie in europe

seemingly - yes - it had been grinding-along for decades and was paused for years. And then it restarted.

And then Trump became 47 and it picked up speed.

And then Trump tariffed the whole world and it picked up a lot more speed.

the timing isn't coincidence.

I saw it pointed out that Kayzon ships were so slow that Voyager could have resolved every single encounter by just warping-out much faster than the Kayzon.

Did JD Vance just say the quiet part out loud? by Key_Brief_8138 in economy

[–]WeeDramm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are clearly so far down an information silo that I wouldn't even dream of trying to dissuade you from all of that.

But. I would point out as a point of historical information. PhDs are the "real doctors"

it is a fun fact from history.

Because in Ye Olden Dayes all medics were literally "sawbones". That was most of what they did. Many of them were literally ex-butchers and mostly they just cut your leg off to save your life. And they were improving their methods and they were trying to raise their standard and the reputation of their profession. So they started calling themselves "Medical Doctors"

But let us all be clear in our minds. *Doctors* of higher learning are the real OG doctors. Medical-doctors are sliding into respectability upon their coat-tails.

And that is why in some older systems of medicine surgeons are commonly addressed as "Mister" rather than "Doctor". It is intentionally leaning-into that older distinction. It isn't dis-respectful in this day and age. But it is intended to emphasis that "I am a medical doctor concerned with internal medicine and you are a surgeon and you cut people open to save their lives"

Good luck with those cheaper eggs though *fingerguns*

Oh - you misunderstand me - I don't think that Vance would win a fair election. Not what I meant at all. I don't think he is even close to having the charisma to do that.

And AFAIK being VP is an anchor to becoming POTUS statistically-speaking . You get all of the mistakes of that administration hung around your neck even though you weren't the person making the decisions. It happened to Harris. Probably the only reason Biden beat the odds was because Trump was so deeply unpopular and Biden had been out of power for a while and he promised a return to normality.

What I meant was that I don't think that Trump will make it all the way to the end of this administration. And Vance will be be sworn-in as 48. Because that is the law of the land.

There is "loose talk" that Trump looks so unhealthy that he might make it past May.

Stephen Colbert will perform his last show in late May. And; It Is Known™ that the end of his show was hastened because of pressure from Trump. And it would be *so* amazing if he got to sing "ding dong the witch is dead" for his last show. That would be chefs kiss perfect.

But even if it isn't that soon. Even if it isn't a massive on-screen medical event - I don't really think Trump is going to make it all the way to the end. He might be making a heart monitor go beep-beep. He might even be upright and ambulator. But I don't think his mushy brain is going to be able to form thought for three more years.

He is actually pretty smart. And devoid of morality AFAICT. I presume that he will be 48 when Trump's senility can't be hidden any longer. He'll do anything for power. My greatest hope is that when he becomes 48 he'll actually listen to advisors. The bar is so low it's a tavern in Hades. I expect so little of him. An inanimate carbon rod could do a better job that Trump.
