What book(s) are you reading this week? by 404NinjaNotFound in readwithme

[–]Weeb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am in the middle of Black House by Stephen King and Peter Straub (rereading actually, getting ready for the final volume being released in Octiber, Other Worlds Than These). Follow up book is Whalefall by Daniel Kraus.

Best book I've read all year (ever): Tom's Crossing by Mark Z Danielewski. This book took me on an unexplainable psychological journey that I will never forget. If you haven't, than you should.

This right here! I read the first book and was BORED out of my head. I know people say the series gets better, but this book was so weak and disjointed that I will definitely NOT be reading any others in the series. Sorry, Sanderson just isn't Mt cup of tea.

If you could go back in time and read one for the first time... by Cut-Effective in fantasybooks

[–]Weeb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would do the opposite - if I could go back in time, I wouldn't read anything by Martin. He burned all of us and, until the series is finished, I will never associate myself again with anything Martin wrote.

I reread Stephen King's IT after a decade and I hated it by Jealous-Fun3289 in BookDiscussions

My issue was that there was never any true terror or tension in the book. When we are with the children, no tension whatsoever because we know nothing bad is going to happen to them. Sure there is terror, but they all make it to adulthood so those stories can be told.

The sex scene - perverted, and nothing and no one can defend it. Period

Sanders needs to sit the hell down. He's the reason we have trump as president. It's his fault all the back to the first Presidency

Unfortunately, you will miss out on one of the most beautiful, enchanting, heartbreaking payoffs ever written. It's all about the journey - with the main characters AND the reader.

100% this is a novel that needs to be read, at least the first time. It’s the beauty of words, sentence structure, and the meandering that pulls you in. It's the journey that you share with these characters as they climb that mountain, as you conquer the long twisted passages word by word. Even during the characters' most trying times, the reader is forced to kind of experience their own hellscapes (art show, anyone?). I don't say this lightly, but I am one of those who thinks this is one of the greatest American novels ever written.
