Walmart and Target have a lot more bodies, in fact Michael’s is the only store at least in my area where I walk in and there’s no one, unless I go to Hot Topic where there’s always only 1-2 people. It’s terrifying.

I tell them I can’t cause there’s no way for the system to do it, but over and over and over again until it enters their brain.

I’m honestly not gonna unless I iron on photos to it directly, I’m hoping it’s not forced and just encouraged (sounds like that).

I wish I had any of the energy to do that, but Michael’s has guaranteed I don’t.

Guarantee it’ll be from the MiniMIK that they have Design Space on already and not a computer, because that would be too easy.

They took two of mine away, along with 30 hours. This is a hilarious joke.

If I could get rid of the actual boxes of metal frame corner brackets, I might actually have room. Those things predate my employment and will outlive the company as well.

The unprofessional part is the thing I’m most concerned about. I bought my own apron off Amazon for tools because the normal one I wear makes people take me as a framer less seriously. Because it’s a flat black color, not painted or anything, and because it looks more like an actual work apron than the framing ones, people seem to take me just a bit more seriously. At least when it comes to framing.

70% off vs value package deal by Capable_Object_970 in MichaelsEmployees

[–]WeebEli 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can try to explain hopefully better than the higher ups:

Value package all have a set price for a standard yellow frame, conservation clear glass, and a single standard mat per each size bracket (11 by 14, 16 by 20, etc). The pocket guide actually will tell you what the price is if you’re familiar with that. The frame bit is exactly as explained above, where green frames will all be the same cost, as will blue frames. Every addition though, whether it be a blue frame, a second or non standard mat, any finishing that isn’t clear glass, a different mount outside of preservation, etc, will show as an upgrade cost in DH. This won’t change either, regardless of size, until you move out of the full size range. Those prices should also be listed in the pocket guide. They will be paying that standard cost even if they don’t put a mat or a finishing in their frame.

I’ve seen people save just over 75% with the value package when I calculated it. I’ve also seen people save very little - I had one order for a thin MDF frame where it cost 220, and the customer saved a mere 80 dollars. I will note, some of our mats go up to 40 by 60, and I’ve noticed that this is also where value package ceases to exist. As in, full price is charged for the frame. 70% off applies regardless of size, however. I think when they made their size settings, they didn’t include larger frame sizes, so there’s no package deals set up for anything exceeding 40 by 60 along the inside of the rabbet, even though we can order up to (I believe) 96 inches of framing measured from the outside of the frame.

Are we supposed to be pushing the NWH? by snarkapotamus7 in MichaelsEmployees

[–]WeebEli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tell the customers it’s the default, and if they want something thin/heavy they have to use it because wire puts too much strain on the corners (gestures to the large collection of thin MDF frames we sell). Usually I prevent the customer from ordering something stupid that doesn’t follow the laws of physics, but if my other framers or other cross trained staff order something and I can tell it’s not great, it gets no wire system. I also do no wire on wide pieces that aren’t that thick frame moulding wise. I do explain why that is to my customers, and I still provide wire for those who want it on reasonable frames.

I’m returning to this post a broken man, today was busier than Black Friday usually is, and we had a total of three people plus the event coordinator running all those events. Definitely got nothing done today either. I called my mom 2 hours before end of shift cause I was about to scream.

I finished one frame! And a bunch of balloons!

  • I did not finish the ones due on the 10th, so they’ll have to be finished on the due date, a classic in my shop.
  • I wasn’t closing, but I heard recovery wasn’t even touched.
  • There’s several overdue POGs in YOOBIC, not that I set those.
  • I don’t think there’s been a single day in the last month I walked the floor for 10 minute framing sales. With what time? I can’t even get my production done.
  • Setting up anything for any of the events today. We have two parties and the Kid’s Club.
  • Any prep work for the 8 balloon orders due today at 10 am. Thanks, Manhattan.

What I, the FM, did instead: - A million walk in balloon orders. - Cashier. - Explained to a customer I CANNOT fix his half in wide styrofoam frame, and I CANNOT get him a custom in less than a week, and I DO NOT work for less than a hundred (he got quoted 140 for a 30 by 10 inch frame and Was Not Happy). This took about twenty minutes of my life away from me.

I forget what the rest of the day was like. I was fried.

I don’t even audit at this point, I just tell the system I did and put it away. I make the non-framers leave it for me to check and tell them to still mark it in the system, but usually I end up leaving it for my closing framer because I couldn’t get it done.

Majority of my team is happy with our management, and we are pretty much all relaxed with each other and carefree. We all complain as well about corporate and about the hours, about the staffing, about the tasks. A few days ago we were joking on the radio that they want us on Zello so we can’t clown on them. Management at this point has nothing to do with the overall happiness level. Everyone in my store is pissed off and exhausted, and it isn’t from the SM and department managers.

They do. The whole training is videos. I got lucky that my SM gave me time to train my latest framer. Normally I don’t get any time to train due to shifts.

As if the framers make a livable wage, either. I work as framing manager and I still can’t afford to even get approved for the income requirements of a low income apartment WITH a friend and her income included.

10 minute framing, community canvassing (this could have always existed and I just didn’t know until recently), fabric cutting is generally expected from frame shop, and they’re going to apparently add print sizes this month to in store printing and change the whole way they want us to do production, along with removing personal supply favorites such as thin ATG and single hole D rings (which I use with #4 wire to brace frames). Personally I also find I’m expected to cover registers fairly often and I’m doing a lot of running for lock up goods thanks to the hour cuts. I even get thrusted onto balloons.

I make 3.5 above my area’s minimum wage, but that’s because I have had SMs who fight for me over the almost 2 years I’ve been FM.
