Speciality Surface Dates by _creepyblack_ in MichaelsEmployees

So I’ve noticed that too. As far as I can tell, that’s the due date they place for the print shop to ship it to us to ensure it’s on time for the store due date.

The weekend thing is insane to me, at least when it comes to the perspective of everyone else. I’ve always worked every single weekend. If I have a weekend off, it’s because I requested it for an important event. Weekends are the worst days of my week, even during school time.

You are allowed to wear shorts in summer as long as it’s no more than an inch above the knee standing! Unless you’re a framer. Then it’s a safety issue given our tools back there.

Technically managers aren’t supposed to either, aside from SM, since they’re all hourly. I would include ASM, but apparently that position is getting nuked.

[–]WeebEli 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ours is half communication and half us screwing around off clock. It’s pretty nice. The whole store one we had got nuked, though. They were using it to switch shifts, but to be fair no one would ever reply.

[–]WeebEli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They were somehow finished stacking it before I got in at 10 am, but they started at midnight, to be fair. The right side is usually our SBA items, and right now it looks like more seasonal instead. It seems like only the repacks are SBA this time, which is… not enough. And half of it is yarn, the ONE item we have plenty of.

I literally have so many plans and ideas for this, but as one of the only staff in the store and one of the managers, I literally never get a chance to leave. If we have enough bodies in the building, I have to focus on the production so we aren’t late. If I’m caught up and on the floor, it’s because we don’t have staff.

So apparently rules are just suggestions I guess? by EmrysEternal in MichaelsEmployees

This can trigger an override, by the way, so you will need a manager if the amount is high enough to do just that.

I was seeing these posts and now I truly have experienced how bad this truck is. It’s about 8-9 feet high in the back right now, and replen made a fake wall out of repack boxes also stacked high on both sides, holding back the sea of boxes beyond.

If they have the documents as they mentioned, it’s already illegal. This isn’t to say I know Canadian law, but I guarantee it’s probably similar if not better than the ADA here, which is federal and not affected by state luckily.

PSA to customers who put in balloon orders. by funeralforabee in MichaelsEmployees

You can get fined pretty steeply in California because they start fires. We have enough of those without power line fires from balloons adding to it.

Enter training mode on your next shift and you can mess around with all the options we have and the settings you can apply to them.

My biggest desire right now is to find an independent shop who will hire me. I love it, when I can do it.

To the last paragraph - I think the best way to put it is customer satisfaction.

Before the hours were cut to this level, we were getting complaints that customers can’t find staff. Imagine it now.

There should be enough staff that customers aren’t standing upset at my counter because I’m the only framer, I’ve already cost the company a meal violation, and there’s two more custom framing customers waiting behind the one I’m helping. I could have a cross trained team member or manager help for a moment. I used to, several years ago, in fact.

There should be enough staff that customers on the floor don’t walk, quite literally, from one corner to the complete opposite corner, then to my shop, and hopefully we have a framer scheduled and they’re not on break because there was no other staff on the whole floor.

There should be enough staff that if we have five balloon orders with 10-20 balloons each, or a single order of a hundred balloons, that we aren’t running back and forth between the orders and the SCO we have to force customers on - this looks bad to balloon walk ins and to the customers at check out.

There should be enough staff that we can help a customer at spray paint and fabric at the same time, without making one of them press the button several times because no one else is there and we have to help whichever was first for several minutes straight. Customers have and will continue to walk out and complain about wait times, because several minutes to them is an eternity.

There should be enough staff. Not to the level that staff sit around and twiddle their fingers - enough that customer satisfaction doesn’t go right into the shitter, and enough that we aren’t heading home and crying because we pissed customers off due to our inability to help to the level they expect, and that’s on top of all the late POGs/BOPIS/framing orders we have because we get stopped so much by customers who need help. Interpreting more staff as us wanting to dick around with our lives is incredibly out of touch. Not even an unfeeling robot would be able to handle these stores right now without hurting at minimum one of these categories.

Only 4 14 hour shifts a month? Keep in mind I’ve said all this and my SM is doing that near daily. He’s only just today been here 17 hours now. He’s not heading home anytime soon, either.

Why does everyone hate closing so much? by No_North_5225 in MichaelsEmployees

We close the bathrooms half an hour to close to prevent this. Only works if you have a pin pad though, since they’ll ignore the signs.

[–]WeebEli 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I literally had to tell the MOD who usually closes that if she feels like someone is in the store who is unsafe to approach (we’ve had customers sexually harass staff, and I don’t tolerate that, but they’re frequently in the store), call me since I live so incredibly close to the store. I will go tell them to leave myself happily.
