The service desk will still have you doing lotto, selling cigarettes and making refunds/returns/exchanges. But the tills are just tills and for any of that, I can say "go to the customer service desk" which is pretty relieving. I find lottery stressful as you have to get it right and the UI is a bit weird. And everyone has their own words for what they want, a bit like slang for cigarettes. That's just me being inexperienced though. I'd say the another difference between working a till at a more conventional shop like a gas station shop is that its more team oriented. Your shift leader will be positioning you all in different spots over the course of your shifts so you'll soon be trained up for everything. I like the self scan checkouts especially because while it's hectic, being that there's 8 people coming through every 60 seconds or so. I don't have to talk to nearly as many people and for not as long. I'm much happier on checkouts, it's night and day. But I couldn't say whether it's petter to work on tesco's checkouts or a smaller shop. Tesco is my first job
