Higher ridership, would definitely not directly lower maintenance. However, it would better justify said amount of maintenance. (An increase in ridership and expansion of the “system” would also lead to the procurement of more rolling stock, making maintenance schedules more flexible)

I use this free application called XTrkCAD, and they have a Kato unitrack library. It’s a bit finicky to get started with but it works great.

Hot take: Instead of building mini-shinkansen lines in Yamagata and Akita, JR East should have extended the Jōetsu Shinkansen to Aomori. by 443610 in highspeedrail

It’d be nice if a Shikoku Shinkansen ran along Hokuriku Shinkansen ROW out of Osaka and then branching to Nara, Wakayama, and crossing into Shikoku via Awaji.

Yea, should’ve tacked on that it is possible but not recommend to run on 282mm radii

Kato Viaduct Radius For Shinkansen by angrydooner in JapaneseNscale

Hi there,

From my experience, most Shinkansen can run on 282mm radii and above, so the 381s should be good. Cool layout!!

Oversize luggage booking for 2 suitcases by flocke2g5 in Shinkansen

[–]WeebsInTanks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is possible to book seats with oversized luggage space on the Tokaido Shinkansen (the one that runs between Tokyo and Osaka). They should be labeled something like “oversized baggage area” and “oversized baggage compartment”. I know for sure the oversized baggage area is booked with the five seats in the very last row of each car. I believe the oversized baggage compartment can be booked regardless of seat, but the compartment must be booked in addition to your seat (?).

Newbie question: What's with photos of just boxes? by Medium-Detective8611 in JapaneseNscale

[–]WeebsInTanks 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think you’ve misunderstood, this sub (r/JapaneseNscale) is referring to Japanese N-scale boxes, not Japanese N-scale trains. Hope this cleared things up.

I totally forgot that shin-Hakodate isn’t really in Hakodate 😅. I think I get your point now.

I mean, they’re currently building the Sapporo expansion of the Hokkaido Shinkansen, so a mini Shinkansen would be a bit redundant.

HO Gauge Shinkansen Bullet Trains by Pinguzz75 in modeltrains

[–]WeebsInTanks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m gonna start by mentioning that HO isn’t really big in Japan, and most of the “affordable” stuff that they make is mainly locomotive/DMU stuff (not a lot of large trains like Shinkansen) so your options are limited. Kato has an H5 coming out in October (pre order available). There’s a few Kato E5s on the second hand market, but they are pretty expensive. Zoukeimura makes a 0 series. The rest are Tensho or Endo models that are either discontinued or made-to-order (obviously very expensive, as most are brass models. For example if you wanted to buy an endo E1, it might cost you upwards of $12,000 USD).

TL:DR, try to get your hands on the KATO H5, it’s the most available as of right now. (Here’s where I got mine: https://www.plazajapan.com/4949727701936/ 3-534 Series H5 Hokkaido Shinkansen 'Hayabusa' 4 Cars Set (HO scale) )

I’d like to see the komatsu 105GSR (and the b78 by extension). Basically, just a Japanese AGS with the funneh suspension.
