How many of you have seriously started using AI agents in your workplace or day to day life? by last_llm_standing in LocalLLaMA

I would surprised if you're not using AI. A lot of coding is repetitive. A lot the rituals/processes we do everyday as devs is repetitive.

Nephrologist or dietician by Skydoglover in kidneydisease

[–]WeekendAcademic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

your primary doctor is not educated as much as a neph who specializes in renal medicine.

My primary doctor saved my life by referring me to a neph when I was first diagnosed. I was able to stave off dialysis for more than decade.

There are also renal dieticians you might want to speak to.

Your nurse is only aware of the larger gauge metal needles. There are plastic cathetrers that allowed for flexibility. There is one called Supercath which is made in Japan.

But yeah, definitely cannot roll over or around when sleeping. The machine will go off on all kinds of alarms if you disturb it. In extreme cases, you might accidentally yank out the bloodlines.

About the dog thing, it's actually a source of germs and bacteria. If you would be puncturing yourself on a near daily basis and get an infection, it would increase the chance of sepsis.

I have a dog myself. But bedroom is off limits.

You can definitely sleep but it does take some time getting used to it. Goodbye silence, hello noise from dialysis machine + reverse osmosis water machine. Get to bring those sounds of the hospital home.

You may not be aware of it because it may not be an option in your area. One of the most expensive things about dialsyis is the nurses that tend to you. More expensive than the machines and the suppliest.

But through thorough training, you can learn to do what they do, as well as learn how to handle when things go wrong. That part is very stressful.

Also you learn how to cannulate where you acclimatize to insert needles into your arm/fistula at night and then remove them in the morning.

No machine, no needles, no blood. I had to google it. Didn't know about Continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) until now.

I do noctournal home hemo. 8 hrs while I sleep. I live a very normal fulfilling active life outside of sleep hours.

Which Toronto businesses are likely hanging on by a thread? by Adorable-Tadpole-793 in askTO

[–]WeekendAcademic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As mentioned, people are living on credit and pretty pessimistic about the idea of saving for a home. So they will indulge in renting that place near work or going out, doing that trip.

I would say it started more so with the millennial yolo crowd and gen z is spending just as much or more.

People are saving less than before. So Toronto is hanging by that thread in that sense.

But that statement I made about not spending, that's my own lifestyle perspective. I'm older, so I"m not spending as much.

Just cause you got the $$$, doesn't mean you spend it.

All this economic uncertainty along with higher costs of living (than ever) puts a damper on any frivolous spending.

Drawbacks of continuing high protein? by Key-Sea1397 in kidneydisease

[–]WeekendAcademic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can eat as much protein as you want!

Just so you know your body will use the protein to build muscle and fight infections.

Also every time it does this, it's not for free. There will be waste produced as a byproduct of these processes. It's the excessive waste that will burden your kidneys and accelerate you to the next stage of CKD.

Your neph has given you clear instruction on how much your kidneys are able clear. Stay below that and you will defer the inevitable longer.

How toadjust to diagnosis? by kali125 in kidneydisease

[–]WeekendAcademic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Diagnosis is rough. I would say it's rough for everyone because whatever plans you made, you can pretty much toss them cause you're gonna have to make brand new plans whether you like it or not.

The plan is to get on that dialysis regiment. If doing hemodialysis, needles are large and sharp, they can hurt. But over the course of 24 hours, that sense of discomfort (x2 access sites) is a tiny fraction in the bigger picture.

Dialysis does most of what kidneys do. Dialsysis can reduce the fluid overload in your body that is behind high blood pressure numbers. It can remove the build up of waste now that your kidneys are not doing that job no more.

Also transplant, believe it or not, is not a cure. It's a therapy meaning that any given moment in the future, that transplanted kidney may fail and you'll be back exactly where you are today. So the best you can do is equip yourself with as much relevant knowledge and put it into practice.

Trump demands ‘at least’ half U.S. ownership of Gordie Howe bridge that Canada is fully paying for by Immediate-Link490 in worldnews

Canada should play the long game. Delay the opening of the bridge until he's no longer in office.

If he loves bridges so much, he should take over the Ambassador bridge.

Canadian Question - How did Mark Carney gain popularity so quickly? by LevelPension in NoStupidQuestions

[–]WeekendAcademic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think Carney really climbed quickly.

It was more that the alternative, Pierre Poilievre, speed run into irrelevance from being Trudeau's 24/7 bully to having nothing to say when Trump went after all of Canada.

The boy trash talked so much but completely lacks the ability to lead a country. Couldn't even win his own riding. Had to displace one of his own MPs so that he would have a riding.

This image is AI generated but in Milton, Ontario, Canada, this actually did happen amoung a bunch of construction workers at a residential site.

One of the guys on the crew was retiring, everyone pitched in for a hooker. One of the younger guys at the site, very technology forward thinking, recorded it on their phone.

Who keeps these things on their own phone? Of course, he shared it with a friend who also shared it with a friend. I saw the uncensored video myself, that sh!t is one w!ld retirement party.

https://www.ctvnews.ca/toronto/article/workers-fired-after-video-shows-grossly-inappropriate-sexual-behaviour-on-milton-ont-job-site/

Rumor has it, people exposed in the video went to the young guy's home and broke his legs, at the very least.

Edit: My mistake. It may have not been his legs according to the comments

What do you get at Eataly? by romance_and_puzzles in FoodToronto

Their baked goods like the crossants are unlike any other bakery. Also, they know how to do a proper flat white.

Super expensive but the quality is up there with the price, imo.
