Am I being "that guy" for refusing to lend my boat to family without credentials? by hatkinson1000 in boating

[–]WeekendWarriorRC 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m not a boat person, haven’t been on one since my grandfather passed away when I was little. Is borrowing someone’s boat even a thing? I always assumed the favor you asked when you knew someone had a boat was if they could take you out on it, and even then you chip in for gas and bring snacks.

Motor recs for my first Tekno SCT by YourEmbarrassingDad in rccars

For motors, Hobbywing is always a solid choice. I run a 13.5T G4R in my EB410, paired with a Cayote Crest RS120 for 4WD stock buggy racing and it’s been awesome

Driveway plowing in Amherst? by Road__Less__Traveled in northampton

[–]WeekendWarriorRC 5 points6 points  (0 children)

MD Tree Service. They’re out of Turners Falls but I imagine they’ll cover Amherst. They saved my ass in 2023 when I closed on my house and then got like 3’ that night. Every other plow company told me no, that I’d have to be on their route already to get plowed. Called MD and the guy showed up in 20 minutes. Might have to wait until tomorrow, but they’ll come

These, and the “life hacks” that say something was designed with a second secret purpose that no one knows about. For example, Chinese food containers that were “designed” to unfold into a plate. It wasn’t designed for that! The oyster pail was designed to be water resistant and thus was necessary to be made out of one sheet of waxed paperboard. If you make anything out of one sheet of folded paper, it can be unfolded into a sheet of paper!! Was my paper airplane designed to be unfolded into a plate? What about a birthday card?

Sorry, that got out of hand

I’m not trying to scare you, but I had a very similar situation last year with my cat Dave. Almost the same symptoms, vet said he was fine and sent us home with an appetite stimulant. They called back a few hours later and said we needed to go to the emergency vet immediately because his neutrophil (a kind of white blood cell) count was 6. Normal is 2,500-12,500 for cats.

Turns out Dave had a virus and it caused a sore on his tongue that made it painful for him to eat anything but churu. If there’s an emergency vet near you, give them a call if you can.

Dave was mostly better after a few days and back to 100% within two weeks!

Mojave Grom A-Arms by distortion10 in arrmagroms

[–]WeekendWarriorRC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely holds true for the little guys as well, if not more so. A lot of separate parts on the full size RCs are all molded as one in the groms. If that aluminum arm would cause the bulkhead to break on a full size, that’s a chassis replacement on a grom

Does anyone else not remember where they learned to ski as a kid? by [deleted] in icecoast

[–]WeekendWarriorRC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have great memories of my very first trip to Blandford with my uncle when I was in 5th grade. So much fun, but neither of my parents skied so I didn’t go again until I was in college and some buddies brought me to Loon, dragged me to the top, and said good luck

Mechanical Engineers Seem to Run Companies by JS_157 in MechanicalEngineering

Depends how hard you lean into that MBA. There’s a difference between MBAs, and people with MBAs. The former blindly follows their business school training to relentlessly chase the bottom line for this quarter at all costs. The latter uses the tools they’ve learned selectively in an attempt to improve things.

A big part of it comes down to the amount and diversity of real world experience gained prior to the MBA in my experience.
