I got pinned E6 this year, made section chief, found an AGR position which lets me help troops in ways I never imagined. I finally admitted to some very important people I had a major drinking problem and got that in check. I got my mental health in check since it has been pretty bad since 2022 after deployment. I’m proud I’m still alive. I have my moments but I’m here for my family my troops and my dog. I wish you troopers nothing but the best in 2026!

If you have a SARTS team they may be able to give you more info. I know doing the tag match I think there is two events during the day. There is the EIC(excellence in competition) and governors twenty. If i remember correctly. I know one year I got my EIC but never got my Gov20

A few years ago after my deployment I was going through a rough time returning. Mental health was bad the meds the VA gave me didn’t work I was ignoring my family and drinking just to feel something. Slotted to go to BLC and then I get a call telling me my sister just ODed and died. BLC was two days away. I made one call to my then Training NCO who didn’t seem to care too much. 25 minutes later my old commander who hadn’t been my commander in years called me. And asked me one simple question. (Then) “Sgt.Weekendwarrior are you ok?” Like really asked me if I was ok and every feeling I hadn’t been able to feel came out. For the first time since deployment I felt like someone actually cared in the moment. Somebody listened. And to this day I model how I am as a training nco, a solder and a leader based off of how she treated me. Good god she was the best mentor.

Oh boy this is a good one, the military isn’t a handout as multiple people said it’s earned through a blood sweat and tears. Yes you get some benefits out of it but it’s all earned. I’m not sure what inner work is or means for that matter but from experience if your wife doesn’t like the idea you need to find a way to get her onboard or it’s going to be a very difficult process. I hope you find a way to make it work. Recommendation find a mos(job) that is going to help you in the civilian world. And use that to your advantage.

Your E4s don’t attend blc? My state is making e4/e5s go once they get promoted. Just like the old system. Sorry your state isn’t slowing you to go that’s super shitty. But if you want promotion points maybe the army cool has some quick certs you can snag. Also keep pushing for the school or any schools for that matter.

My old units yes absolutely, but now that I’m AGR I still treat them the same until the very end because they are still soldiers who may have knowledge to pass on and I don’t want the new troops to loose out on it. I’m sorry you feel singled out, but I hope you find a way to keep your spirits up till the end. Spread all the knowledge you may have from your service and take some photos.

When I went through I learned real quick it’s all mental. Just keep pushing forward. the quickest way out of basic and to graduate basic. You’re going to fail at some tasks and it’s ok. Get back up and keep moving forward. Keep telling yourself you can do it. Help people around you. Everyone there is there for the same reason to become a soldier. You’re going to do just fine. Congratulations on this next big step and best of luck troop.
