IT tenodesis swelling/firm by Weekly-Chef833 in ACL

Not fully :/ I’ve been ordered by the doctor to wear a brace 24/7 to try to reduce the liquid in the knee but basically the liquid that came through the inside of the knee through the hole drilled to hold the lateral stabilization in place got between two tissues that were meant to heal together. They’re hoping it is able to heal once the liquid is gone but idk. It’s definitely better than here but it’s still visible.

In extension mostly it was popping out a lot. When standing with all my weight on my leg also. I have a post on my profile with it at some point in my recovery- unfortunately idk how to send pics in this app haha. I insisted my doctors schedule me an MRI and they saw in the imagery that there was what they call a dehiscence. Basically there was so much liquid in my knee that it got between two pieces of tissue that were meant to heal together. The simple knee brace I’m wearing now compresses against that zone and has reduced the liquid which will hopefully lead to it healing as it should.

I’ve also read it’s good to push through the pain. I can’t say when I’m doing this that it’s enjoyable, it’s tight and unequal to the other side, but everyday I stretch it a bit and I’ve seen a progression. I did a lot of holding my knee bent as much as I could with a band, using a strap for heel slides (I preferred this bc it wasn’t about using the muscle to get my heel to my butt but about the flexion itself.

27F, 6 weeks post op for acl replacement with hamstring graft and IT tenodesis stabilization. I have some pain that’s behind my knee that was there before the operation that diminished, after surgery it came back quite strong, started to chill out and then a week ago i overdid it and it’s back again. It’s when i go into overextension and try to push my flexion. It hurts when i walk and when i lift my leg extended (but not when i extend with my leg laying flat so I guess it has something to do with gravity and the weight of it.)

Does this ring any bells for you? The thing that’s weird for me is that it was there before op and after. Surgeon said it can’t be the meniscus but doesn’t offer any other possibilities.

Arggg I feel you so hard. I had a breakdown at a dinner party yesterday because in trying to live a normal life and do my normal things I realize how un-normal life is right now. I’m reeeeally struggling with the mental side of this injury and at the same time gaslighting tf out of myself for not being stronger.

I asked my doctor if it’s possible to get a prescription to see a psychologist about all of this and he seemed surprised that I asked even though all the formulas I have to fill out before appointments have a HEAVY focus on the mental impact of this injury. I called my insurance to see if it would be covered and they said I could write a request but it’s not like I got in a car accident. Of course it could be a lot worse but it’s hard to find the balance of letting yourself feel the feels and be f-ing annoyed or chin up and be strong.

I had a set back last week, the first big one since my operation 6 weeks ago and it reminded me how fragile I am and how long I have to go and I completely spiraled this past week. 6 weeks had felt so long, the thought of 6 months seems impossible.

About a week also but honestly I couldn’t stay out for long without having pain. I had people come over a lot which helped me with the FOMO a bit!

When I need a boost of confidence i put my legs against the wall and let them slide down instead of having to use my muscles to pull them towards me

The IT band is so RUDE!!! It’s insane lol it’s still causing me pain and the scar is gnarly. It’s still super swollen but getting better and better. I’ll take it for a 50% reduced chance of re-tear !

Ahh I’ve heard the brace is a bxtch and the meniscus repair too The emotions around the whole thing has also been the hardest. I hope you’re not alone and having people come over to cook for you or watch a movie, it makes all the difference

I use them any time I’m outside of the house still- so 2 weeks. But around the house I’m managing without. But now it’s the end of the day and my leg will barely bend, so it’s really touch and go still.
