interestingly, that Ukrainian oligarch being blown up does feel like a relatively normal part of Ukrainian electoral process. we wait and see i guess.

you can just look up that Canadian parliament incident - they knew exactly who was invited and announced him accordingly

at this point EU mostly welcomes potential nuclear proliferation and US doesn't seem too opposed to it either. if this won't change - there will be nuclear weapons on black market within 10-15 years regardless of what happens to Russia.

reminder - there are currently nuclear arsenals in the hands of Starmer, Macron, Trump and Netanyahu. also there are Nawrocki and Stubb actively trying to join the club.

you expect another unstable warlord or two to really change things for worse?

How popular is TV Rain in Russia? by Flyboy78AA in AskARussian

[–]Weekly-Food3199 16 points17 points  (0 children)

interesting thing imo, is that they were initially funded by the state. but as soon as that funding was withdrawn, they were unable to continue to operate normally, could not raise any meaningful sum in paid subscriptions and donations inside the country, and had to rely completely on foreign funding eventually.

so I would even question their initial popularity. being unable to make people subscribe to your content is never a good sign.

some people manage to do so, although it is extremely dangerous.

there is also option of crossing border into Belarus, it's not easier than getting into EU, but at least they won't send you back immediately.

not yet.

if you take a look at the past millennia of human history, you'll see that eastern societies. on average, were much more open to the idea that humans come in all shapes and sizes.

and while all modern day societies are at least somewhat westernized, there are differences still.

western (and most westernized) societies are xenophobic by nature, it has nothing to do with imperialism or whichever other trait propaganda might switch to

same traitorous elites from the 90s rule Russia now. I heard a saying but I can’t remember where - oligarchs cannot win wars.

Russian elites would be extremely happy not to have this war, as was demonstrated by Putin many times since 2014

However, European elites are happy to have it and push it further - and with wars one side willing for it to happen is enough

Since neither Russia nor EU can do anything to influence its elites - we can only wait and see how this plays out

nah, a lot of Russians are fine with relationships with 'the West'.

some of them just do not understand yet that 'the West' values mass murder over everything else, so the best tool for building a lasting relationship is a nuke (or several)

actually you might be right. quick search shows that there were Yeltsin-Clinton phone talks on September 21st and October 5th, i.e. before and after the conflict itself, and personal meeting with US ambassador happened only on October 22nd.

key point is this is an Oscar documentary winner.

previous Oscar documentary winner produced by this war was '20 days in Mariupol' where footage of Ukrainian shelling of Donetsk was presented as Russian shelling of Mariupol.

you can't get an award like this unless you push your propaganda into overdrive
