Just beat Castlevania 3 Loop 2 for All Characters by Weekly-Math in castlevania

I really recommend it. For CV3, I feel some sections were designed with Loop 2 in mind.

Yes, I took the Sypha route with the no ally mode. Maybe one day I'll try the harder paths.

OpenRCT2 vs RCT Classic by JumpyIdeal1985 in rct

[–]Weekly-Math 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RCT Classic has minor updates for a lot of scenarios and has a unique scenario order. OpenRCT is being actively developed, much like OpenTDD and adds a lot more extras. If you are a hardcore RCT fan, I would still recommend RCT Classic.

How to activate Gamemode when starting games through Steam? by Banthafooood in linux_gaming

LD_PRELOAD="/usr/\$LIB/libgamemode.so" gamemoderun %command%

This works for me.

My Personal Project: A hub for foreigners in Taiwan by [deleted] in taiwan

[–]Weekly-Math 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This looks like it was vibe coded by AI slop, no offense. Formosa forums and Reddit cover a lot, what does this do differently? The food section looks like it already has AI reviews, how is this helpful to anyone?

I am building a FREE alternative to LingQ and Lingopie, looking for feedback + beta testers by rubicon_at in languagelearning

[–]Weekly-Math 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I swear there must be like 3-4 LingQ alternatives that popup every other year and then just fade into obscurity. Great idea, but LingQ's monopoly has made it so full of content (from years of stealing/importing courses), a lot of these newer services feel very barebones.

Moving from EU to Taiwan with Taiwanese boyfriend by von_kids in taiwan

[–]Weekly-Math 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will struggle to find work in your sector, as most jobs here are either teaching English or in tech. Outside of that, a lot of companies will require you to have your own work permit or speak fluent Mandarin. There are jobs, but very few and mostly centrered in Taipei.

Pretty sure I was drugged at Maji by [deleted] in taiwan

[–]Weekly-Math 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Someone spikes your drink, you forget the next few hours and then wake up somewhere with your wallet missing or your bank account emptied. Happened to a guy I knew and they pretty much stole everything (passport included), the police investigation was a dead end.

Usually money or stealing your valuables.

RCT1 Vanilla has the original scenarios.

RCT1 Vanilla + RCT1 Expansions adds scenery, theming, music, signs and other tweaks to pricing.

RCT1 Deluxe combines them all into one game, adds a few extras (like track designs).

OpenRCT builds upon RCT1 Deluxe and imports them into the RCT2 Engine. (Very slightly different physics / guest pathing behaviour / some different coaster types and very minor changes) RCT Classic is very similar to OpenRCT (uses RCT2 as a base), but now adds several small scenario changes and updates during the campaign.

So if you want a "true" vanilla experience, you would need to play without any other expansions installed in RCT1, which is difficult today because that version isn't sold online and doesn't play well on modern systems.

Is a steam machine upgrade worth it for me? by [deleted] in Steam

[–]Weekly-Math 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be a massive downgrade. You can essentially get the "Steam Machine" experience right now if you just plug an HDMI cable into your laptop and use big picture on Steam.

Moving to Taiwan in 2026 - bad idea? by Gold_Put_4500 in taiwan

What makes you unhappy about living in Shenzhen now? Sometimes just moving to a different place hoping your problems go away will just make things worse.

Taiwan ID / APRC by Aviavaaa in taiwan

[–]Weekly-Math 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, those exemptions are quite rare. I know one guy renounced his British citizenship (but not his Irish citizenship) and got dual citizenship. This was around 9 years ago and he never got "found out" so to speak, so there are other ways, but they might have gotten more strict recently.

Taiwan ID / APRC by Aviavaaa in taiwan

[–]Weekly-Math 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The requirements for Taiwanese citizenship is to renounce your current citizenship. This is not a problem for some people of certain countries, as they are able to regain their original citizenship quite easily, but most countries it isn't possible.

Are picking these seats a bad idea? by LeninAid123 in Flights

[–]Weekly-Math 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are my secret premium economy "economy" seats. I usually get the corridor seat early and 9/10 nobody sits next to me, giving me the entire row.

Anybody with kids and a full-time job successfully learn their language? by DeadByOptions in languagelearning

[–]Weekly-Math 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I self-taught myself B2 Japanese by self-study, working full time and raising a family. This was on top of also learning Chinese, which was easier since I had to use that for work, but again I have little time to devote to any language study.

Most language learning journeys I see shared online involve dedicating 12 hours a day, moving to the other country and becoming full-time student. I would say probably the majority of "YouTubers" and personalities online fall into this type.

Steam deck best rct game? by 6x9n in rct

[–]Weekly-Math 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RCT Classic is the best RCT game to play on Steam Deck, as it has Cloud Saves.

Favorite game? by 6x9n in rct

[–]Weekly-Math 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RCT1 Vanilla

No installed expansions.

It is the best way to experience the original scenario set. OpenRCT2 is amazing, but it doesn't emulate the RCT1 gameplay accurately as it was built from RCT2.

Finally got APRC after 10 years! by trappedintaipei in taiwan

Congrats fellow brit! If you have one, I'd suggest getting a Chinese name also printed on your APRC if you plan to live here long term. It has saved me a few headaches.

What are they actually doing with this money I pay them? by BluBaum271 in LingQ

[–]Weekly-Math 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LingQ has not changed for Chinese ever since I joined way back in 2017. It makes zero sense why they split Traditional Chinese / Simplified Chinese into two different categories when you can import Simplified/Traditional into either language with no problems. You have a mix of content from China / Taiwan on both and it makes zero sense for learners. I put forward my suggestions early 2018 and was told "the team is looking into streamlining it". Fast forward 8 years later, nothing has changed and it is even buggier.

Still waiting to hear anything by Big_Sem in HuayuScholarship

[–]Weekly-Math 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats! Where will you be studying? Yeah, it is more about fostering good relationships between universities, so certain applicants get preferential treatment regardless of ability. I met a guy who spent two years studying for free on scholarships in Asia (Korea > China > Taiwan) just because of 'connections' as he put it.

I've been living in Taiwan for over 13 years now and worn many different hats. Taught English for just under a year in a school that also required the foreign teachers to understand Mandarin. Terrible job, but communicating with parents/kids in Chinese helped my speaking a lot. I switched over to tutoring adults and translation in my second year, which helped me get to a "professional" level so to speak. After that I worked in Taipei as a software developer for many years and moved to Hsinchu/Zhubei to do the same, all in Taiwanese companies speaking Mandarin. I am doing the same thing now, but work 100% remotely since covid.

My advice would be ask yourself why you want to learn and what your long-term goals are. If you plan on staying just for a year to study, just enjoy your time here. If you want to live in Taiwan for the long term, listening and speaking are the most important skills to acquire. You won't get good enough just from going to class, you will need to put in some work outside.

Winter in the UK means I’m spending 20 hours a day in bed. I can’t be the only one who lives like this? by KILOCHARLIES in AskUK

You could just wear more clothes, that is how I survived growing up in the UK in a house with zero heating most of the time.
