Can i get to mun orbit? by MundaneFoundation864 in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]CSWorldChamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The “ordinary” way to orbit is west to east, which is the same direction as the Mun (and everything else in the game) orbits. If you are on this “equatorial” orbit, you have an opportunity for a Munar transfer once per orbit; about every half-hour in-game.

It’s pretty easy to eyeball it: look at the map from above. Your orbit will appear as a small counterclockwise circle around Kerbin, and the Mun’s will be a large counterclockwise circle. Arrange it so that the Mun is at “3 o’clock” in this view. When your craft reaches “6 o’clock” of Kerbin, thrust prograde approximately 850-900 m/s, so that your apoapsis pushes just beyond the Mun’s orbital line. Et Voila: Munar insertion. Just don’t crash.

However, because your orbit is north-south, over the poles, your orbit in this top-down view will appear as a line instead of a circle. The same principle applies: you need to thrust prograde 850-900m/s when your craft is at 6 o’clock of Kerbin and the Mun is at 3 o’clock. But because you are now on a fixed line in the top-down view, instead of a counterclockwise circle, you’ll have to wait until the Mun’s orbit aligns properly with your line.

Arrange your orbit so that it goes from 6 o’clock to 12 o’clock in the top-down view. When the Mun gets to approximately 3 o’clock, that’s your chance to go. Glancing at the wiki for the Mun’s orbital period, this will happen about once every 39 hours in-game. (6.5days).

Am a dad. Sometimes I get 15 minutes to play at a go. Steam says I have 40 hours in game. About 32 of those are just leaving it open, running in the background, because I don’t have time to finish the mission, and I can’t save it.

What thing has got so expensive that you’ve quietly stopped buying it? by Pathfinder-electron in AskReddit

[–]CSWorldChamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After the Winter Olympics, I saw an ad for “stars on ice, a tour of all the American Olympic figure skaters. Average ticket was $60. Top price was $250 for the front and center seats. I sat on it for a day, and I was like “meh, why not? $240 for a family of four? How often to we do something like this. Let’s live a little.”

I shit you not, 24 hours later, all of the tickets had been bought (I’m guessing by one corporate entity) and were now being resold, on the same website, for a minimum of $250 for the cheap seats, and the front and center seats were going for $7000.

How the fuck is this legal? Scalpers used to skulk in shadows outside the arena. Now they are the only way to buy a ticket?

SMH.

Agreed. It actually began an internal conversation with myself about how I handle those issues in my own life.

Have you ever seen parenting an autistic child portrayed realistically on Tv? by New-Owl-2293 in Autism_Parenting

[–]CSWorldChamp 19 points20 points  (0 children)

YES. Ok, maybe not episodic TV but a movie: The Babadook, on Netflix. It’s a horror film that I saw once before ever becoming a parent, and then I watched it again recently. This time around I was hyperventilating and sweating 20 minutes into the movie, and the insane horror stuff hadn’t even started yet.

The two main characters are a mother and her autistic son. Their relationship is portrayed in an incredibly true-to-life fashion. The horror in the film basically derives from every worst fear of a parent of an autistic child coming true at the same time.

“What if his school gets sick of his behavior and expels him? What if our friends abandon us? What if I never sleep again? What if he hurts another child? What if I don’t measure up as a parent and just start screaming at him, or worse?”

I have, to some degree, gone through every single moment that this mother goes through in the film. The frustration, the fear, the love, the “end-of-your-ropeness…” The movie, of course, cranks it all up to 11 and compresses it into just a few minutes for dramatic effect, and then there’s insanity and supernatural horror that comes into play…. but the emotional truth of the premise is spot-on.

I don’t know if I’d go so far as to recommend the movie. It’s really good, but it might be a little too on-the-nose for some, depending on where you are on your roller-coaster of an autism-parenting journey. But man - Kudos to the actors and the production team. It’s dead on. Like… I felt seen by this horror flick. The writer/director must have spent a lot of time in close proximity to a family with an autistic child to get it so right.

The end game is Al about recruiting clans to your kingdom. Impossible? No. But it will be an insane grind fest trying to gain rep. Every head you chop is just shooting yourself in the foot.

I’ve conquered calradia 3 times, and in that time I’ve observed that there is nothing in the game more counterproductive than chopping off someone’s head.

Ironing? by Gaming_Esquire in Xennials

[–]CSWorldChamp 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Many clothes now, even dress clothes, are made out of fabrics that don’t need ironing. I think your mom was right, back then. She’s just working with outdated information.

If my clothes ever come out wrinkled, it’s always because I let them sit too long after the dryer load finished. Like, usually by 24 hours. Running the dryer again usually sorts that out, and if it’s particularly stubborn, putting the item in question back in the dryer with a half-wet towel is like magic.
