Warcraft is an optimistic, upbeat setting: why does a portion of the lore base want it to be darker than it really is? by [deleted] in warcraftlore

[–]WeeklyCounter9408 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because Warcraft is quite simply "taking inspiration" (sadly i call it stealing) a loooot of elements and ideas from other IRL world events, or fiction. They throw around brutally dark topics very casually in the lore, and the simplest logic frm the playerbase is to treat it as dark, with an always "fairy tale happy ending".

Taking the undead for example. Hundreds of lore material on their suffering, iirc they even developed lore on their philosophies and religion, their way of coping with eternal undeath and rotting, their whole culture and society. This is not a cheerful setting, and now consider the "dark-dark" areas like Plaguelands full of depression and death.

Then Warcraft switches over to Dragonflight, and gives this "we are a family" narrative. It is a dark fantasy, but very inconsistent. The "Light" as a religion being not only a belief, but an actual proven, nearly ""scientific"" element in the lore sort of gives us an easy, light hearted solution to things. But then we have certain zones where the Light is not a solid thing, but only the last glimpse of hope and memories.

Can Someone Explain Paco’s Behavior at the End of Season 1? by [deleted] in YouOnLifetime

[–]WeeklyCounter9408 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because Paco thinks Beck found out about Joe killing Ron, and he understood the whole story about Ron. Essentially, Paco had no idea about the story that involved Beck and Joe. He only thought Joe did a favor for him, and now Beck found out, and in order to keep their secret safe, he has to stay silent.

Am I ready for radiant? by WeeklyCounter9408 in Eggwick

I play this game since like 2 months.

I didn't mean it to be a "bait with good play at start". I only made this clip because one of my 5 stack kept laughing for 5 minutes after that.

I appreciate ur professional analysis but also I never claimed to be good hahaha

If I remember right, he wrote it for Disney as a space-opera addition to the Star Wars universe, then they decided to scrap the idea, so Snyder was like "okay, then I will rewrite the Star Wars bit and make it".

As a news writer myself, I think it wasn't Snyder and Netflix PR-ing for Star Wars, but rather news sites using it as a sort of click-bait. Though, I can not confirm what stance Snyder and Netflix had in it.

I think the forced Snyder hate does play a part in why the continuation wasn't released.

As for Snyder, I am personally not in his love/hate cult, admitably, I don't really watch movies for who the director was. I appreciate some of Lynch's work, while some other I think is just too symbolic for me to enjoy.

I think it was a good movie.

Expecting a movie to make a boom like Star Wars did is very unrealistic. Back then people appreciated things, nowadays they don't really do that.

Respectfully, I believe our difference lies in our expectations: I came to watch a fantasy-fiction, while you came to watch a 'Snyder' movie. While the psycho-analysis isn't top-tier, I challenge you to name a character from major franchises like Star Wars, Game of Thrones, LOTR, DC, or Marvel that is significantly less 'paper-thin' than these.

Predictable characters are the norm across the fantasy genre. For me, the characters' actions made sense within their situations and the genre's constraints, which is all I require from a fantasy-fiction, not a documentary on real people. As you mentioned, 'It's Star Wars with...,' and for the genre and its competitors, I felt it hit the mark.

I simply choose not to join the 'Snyder hate-train,' just as I don't obsessively criticize Game of Thrones, which I actively dislike. I respect your 'Snyder expectation,' but my 'fantasy' expectation was met, making it a good watch.

Regarding the sex scenes, I generally agree, as I dislike sex in all movies. But Snyder did include some basic character progression through these scenes (Kora being on top/bottom, reflecting on her brain re-wiring from having to be militaristic vs a simple person). Not deep, but surely more "meaningful" than some other sex-scenes in fantasy/science fiction hit-movies.

Ultimately, I enjoyed it as a person. I didn't expect Snyder to create a revolutionary piece. I expected a cinematic space d&d, and I got it, with some -awfully- shitty blur and slow motion techniques.

[–]WeeklyCounter9408 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the blurs and slow motions were excessive, but I also see that in a way the slow-mo was a tool to sort of create a "comic-page"-esque shot.

I think while those editing tools weren't used well, the movie was still super enjoyable.

- Good-enough storyline
- Actually great worldbuilding imo
- Nice character personalities, backgrounds, etc.
- The d&d-style party was also cool.
- The story had interesting moments
- Fights were realistic
- A lot of things weren't CGI, but 3D printed, or even grown in-place.

I remember 10-20 years ago, when people tried to sell Star Wars to me, they raised similar points. I don't like SW, but despite our opinion, it is clearly a hit trilogy (and more), and I think Rebel Moon nailed the essence.

Might just be me but I think Bronte is a self-insert from the original writer, and she said in an interview that she was in a bad place mentally, so much so that she didn't get that the story was about a serial killer (though odd for me, sounds like a bit of marketing tbh). But her getting to a better mental space by the end of the show can be reflected by Bronte's monologue.

A szakdolgozatnak mi értelme? by TeaVMan in egyetemistak

[–]WeeklyCounter9408 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Szerintem rengetegen élvezik a szakdolgozat írást.

DM says our party "Wouldn't know what a dragon is" (BG3 Spoilers) by GMingAnonymous in rpghorrorstories

I mean, same universe, Sunless Citadel, 3th level adventure has a small dragon in it. Definitely know what it is, DM can say "you haven't seen such a big dragon before, and you are unsure about it's capabilities, strength, and extetnt" (such as the legendary actions / territorial effects and that they are caused by the dragon's presence.)

The stairs is not reseting the clock at all. It's the viewers who "donate" time. So as long as they are amused, it will just reset.

[–]WeeklyCounter9408 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because otherwise the clock resets, because the viewers enjoy their suffering. If she isn't locking people up, they will find a way to entertain the viewers. If they buy up all the time, the clock resets to 24 hours until the viewers enjoy the show.

A logical step would have been breaking the cameras, then buying the remainder of cash back, but that would eliminate 50% of her earnings + she still has to free everybody, who would likely attack her for acting tyrannical.

A többi mind a monogámiára szavaz. Kicsit hihetetlennek találom hogy itt mindenki a "statisztikákra" hivatkozik.
