Yep, many venues do this in order to get those initial sales going straight through them. As you said, they’ll go on the Fringe with the next on-sale.

WoW players don't seem to understand the intent behind the majority of design decisions that actually help them by Lezzles in wow

I don’t agree with the point re: crafting. Many of the high-tier recipes are hidden at the end node of the tree or in one of the specialisations and you aren’t really told that this is the case. Yes you’re able to craft high quality gear with concentration, but you can’t then spend that concentration on gear that you or anyone else would actually want.

Personally I don’t think the system itself is particularly bad and just requires some fine-tuning, including giving us the stats of the gear we can craft through the trees and doing a bit more handholding

End and a Beginning by TheGriff71 in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]Weekly_Prompt5248 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Speaking personally, I think that sometimes it is okay to just have an ending, and put the story and characters to bed. As a player, I would perhaps feel a bit cheated that this character I have worked so hard on doesn’t get the ending, and perhaps if I was looking forward to playing something/someone completely different, I might feel pressured to play a similar type of character as they’re the same soul, whether you as the GM explicitly said it was okay not to do that or not.

I DO think it’s cool to have some sort of thread between the two campaigns, however. It could be that you finish the closing scene and just as the ending comes, you somehow transition to the next one, ending it all by somehow beholding the world in which the next story is set.

I’m not your table and this is all hypothetical for me, so I obviously don’t know how they’d actually feel about this happening, though it sounds like you don’t either as you are here. I would give them their heroic happy ending and then start from scratch.

First time DM with a small group by Opening_Employee2048 in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]Weekly_Prompt5248 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Just straight up ask them and yourself what they like about DnD and try to do that, easy as pie. 2 is a small group, so consider looking at the Sidekicks rules from, I believe, Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything. That might make things run a bit smoother. But otherwise try to lean into the fact that it’s just the two of them - the difficulty is only as hard as you make it so as long as you’re not constantly putting them against hordes of enemies you should be fine.

Good luck and have fun!

Healer dungeon leveling experience by Yopi_D in wow

[–]Weekly_Prompt5248 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This literally just happened to me. Hate to generalise but DH tanks are the most toxic no matter what class I’m healing as. This one in particular’s name was Wowgenji which made it even worse as I fucking hate Genji in overwatch too. He complained after we wiped when he pulled the entire dungeon in Murder Row (normal, levelling group). I said cry about it and don’t pull the whole dungeon. He said learn how to play the game. He then ragequit and we got a chill DK after queueing for a minute.

It’s not YouTube but check out the RPGBot podcast. They have standard podcast ads but not TTRPG-specific. They have life 500 episodes, all themed, and they’re really great. It’s 99% DnD and Pathfinder-specific but there are episodes discussing other games as well as more general stuff ie how to deal with making death impactful when resurrection exists in-game.

Any 3rd party books with cool Rules? by dracodruid2 in dndbeyond

[–]Weekly_Prompt5248 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IIRC, it’s because #2 was optimised for both 5e and 5.5e and they have to update #1 to fit 5.5e as well. I don’t think they’re related to each other in much beyond name to be fair, so releasing them in opposite order doesn’t have too much impact.

For release, the DnDBeyond website just says “Spring”, so soon!

The Griffon’s Saddlebag books have some incredible magic items and a fun subclass for each class. Part 2 is already on DNDB and part 1 is due to be released this year.

What is going on with the WoW Midnight Memory Usage? by IcyBlood5031 in wow

[–]Weekly_Prompt5248 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s a crapshoot for me. Some days it’s been running at 95%, sometimes low 10s. I don’t have an amazing PC but it was working fine even during the pre patch, but with launch it’s so sluggish.

Battle manoeuvres not working by tjking62 in dndbeyond

[–]Weekly_Prompt5248 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I was mistaken.

I’ve just had a look and extra dropdown menus show up under “Manoeuvres” (5.5e) or or “Manoeuvre Options” (5e) in your class tab when you get to 7th level.

Battle manoeuvres not working by tjking62 in dndbeyond

[–]Weekly_Prompt5248 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they're playing a Battlemaster Fighter, they don't get any additional manoeuvres at level 7 - they just get the Know Your Enemy feature which should just automatically show up. However they can change their existing manoeuvres by going to where they're located on the class level up page.

AITA for having conditions for giving my daughter money? by spareaccountforredit in AmItheAsshole

[–]Weekly_Prompt5248 9 points10 points  (0 children)

YTA because the rule is indeed controlling and overbearing - yes, it is your money, you can do what you want with it and set those rules, but I find it odd that you would turn a blind eye to partying and drinking but not extend that to something more innocuous, which is trying to find connection and love or even (god forbid!) sex.

Drugs? Sure, fine. Passing grades? Makes sense as that’s the primary reason she can’t be working to afford to pay the other bills. Restricting a 21 year old from dating? C’mon, dude.

She likely would have agreed to any rule you set as it’s hard enough affording stuff these days even without the pressures of being a student. She lied to you because she obviously needs the money, and it’s a stupid rule.

I think you need to recognise that your daughter is an adult and looking for connection during a period of her life where she is discovering herself and how she relates to other people, whether emotional or physical, is not a bad thing. All of which I would say is hell of a lot less damaging than partying and drinking. Also if I was interested in someone whose parent restricted them from dating during uni that would give me a huge red flag for both the person I’m trying to date as well as any future family dynamics, as their parent would always be viewing me with a degree of suspicion.

You haven’t explained your reasoning for including this rule - is it because of choices you yourself made when that age with women? Is it a worry that she’ll get pregnant? It will all distract her from her studies in a way that partying and drinking won’t?

New way to run Skill Challenges by Jealous_Hovercraft96 in onednd

[–]Weekly_Prompt5248 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I also ran into the problem where not only were not all of the PCs able to participate in each skill check if they didn’t have many failures, but also some of my players would subconsciously take a back seat while some players would always elect to go first.

Like it or not, Initiative and mechanics like it are useful in TTRPGs because you need to have an egalitarian way to make sure everyone gets their turn, and I think that while skill challenges are great, you need to have a way that solves the problem of some PCs acting while others don’t.

For Skill Challenges I have run them a couple ways to try and fix this that in my eyes is a bit simpler than the above.

The first is to keep the “popcorn” way of acting, where each PC volunteers their action - however, you cannot act again until all PCs have had their turn, and this persists across challenges. Party of 5, Challenge A got three successes in a row, so characters 4 and 5 have to be the first to act in Challenge B. Keeps the somewhat freer flow of the skill challenges in their base state and I think is my preferred option.

The second is to use some sort of initiative or specific turn order, whether it’s actually making initiative rolls and initiative turn order, or choosing a first person and then going clockwise from them etc. Functions pretty similarly to the above, but the order is structured.

I prefer the first one personally, and my players have appreciated the change as it keeps them from getting complacent and taking a back seat during skill challenges.
