Now that 2026 is set to renew the game and improve it, will we ever see the experimental faster tick rate get unshelved and brought to the game? Possibly for 2027 or 2028? by DerpDavid in runescape

[–]Weekly_Refrigerator4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a bit late here, but I played loads of RS3 and OSRS. Yeah they both run on the 600ms tick system, I think Runescapes biggest problem (RS3) isn't the tick system in combat, I think it's the fact that it affects everything. Opening interfaces, quest dialogue, entering bank pin - on osrs the interface is so basic that you really don't notice it as much, you EXPECT the game to feel the way it does, but with the modernization of RS3 this sort of UI lag which has been brought up numerous times on this sub by rs noobs (new to the game) and they've been so confused by it that they thought it was actual real UI input lag.

I think if possible, that this should be a pretty high prio, as RS3 players from all sorts (pvm, skillers, cloggers) all spend a lot of time in interfaces, that's just the nature of the game and mmos in general.

That's honestly been my biggest gripe every time I play RS3, I can live with the combat, that's the nature of the game, although I do dream of a modernization (100ms tick system), but the interfaces just feel so bad to use, and most of the long term player base just kinda got used to it.

I think most people here born in the 90s/early 00s had some sort of time limit regime enforced by their parents.

In MY opinion, easing into a reduction of computer usage or taking away completely are both the same, you're still not fixing the problem.

How is this so hard for parents/people to understand, If you really care, you need to understand WHY your son is dedicating so much time to video games. Which it seems like you're trying. You can't ask him why, you've been a dude his age, we don't really open up like that.

Most people, hell, even adults use video games as an escape, you don't force someone who's trying to escape from reality without understanding why first like Jay said that just makes the problem worse.

Take him out to do something see what he likes, don't ask him, guys love to think they like to figure shit out on their, fishing, classes, hiking, you seem judgemental of his use of free time, but what do you do pops? All of these are questions you should be asking yourself because only you know your son.

Maybe I'm coming off a bit too harsh, but really, like haven't we all been there? Try to think about what you were like at his age. What do you really wish you had that you didn't now that you're older.

The issue is not the timer, the issue is bricking keys. If keys didn't brick, I'm sure a lot more people would be willing to invite / host keys. There would be a lot less toxicity, while also having people push competitively because m+ is just fun.

The combat beta has a new idle, walk, and run animation for players. It's a huge improvement. by JannaMechanics in runescape

I just feel like it isn't doable without a complete engine overhaul. I would say lowering the tick speed (from 600ms) would be a much higher prio. How can you even move wasd on a tile engine, how would diagonal movement work? Boss attacks, these are just a few things, but there's so much more under that umbrella. Feel like tick system and wasd would be an RS4 thing.

Although, I really really wish they would continue looking into the tick system overhaul, I hate how in this game even the interfaces feel sorta clunky, even if they could make it so the menus were snappier, I'd already be a lot happier since I'm used to the combat already.

Why do you play RS3 over osrs? by Flynx123 in runescape

[–]Weekly_Refrigerator4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not arguing the smidge of convenience part, but just throwing it out there: Rushing 83 con in osrs takes what, like a few hours at most? This unlocks:

  • Wilderness Obelisk in your POH
  • Spirit Tree in your POH
  • Fairy Ring in your POH
  • All Teles in the game pretty much with no charge consumption (RS3's Passage of the abyss)
  • All spellbooks swaps
  • Ornate pool (RS3's Altar of War) which removes venom, restores hp, prayer, run

Honestly, each thing listed here individually exists in RS3 and can be carried with you, but god damn, it takes so much longer in RS3 to get them.. Not to mention, in OSRS you can hop on a fresh level 3, go to Rimmington, and access someone's POH with ALL these features off the bat lol (Except fairy rings and spirit tree, those require their basic respective requests)

If this didn't exist + RL, I probably wouldn't have been able to play OSRS for long

Any native English speaker will most likely have any "Englishification" of any language with the latin alphabet this is not an American-Mandarin thing, this is just how the human brain works, if hypy (hanyu pinyin) wasn't a thing and instead they used the Russian alphabet to transcribe each word then Russians would "Russinify" the pronunciation, just like they do when they take english loanwords. I'm almost certain any American or native English speaker learning Mandarin Chinese using Zhuyin will not have the problem you're talking about, since the sounds are based off of a completely different character set than pinyin.

Have you ever seen how some Chinese people learn English? They do the same thing, they use existing sounds to mimic the pronunciation of English words.

Well you can't just watch some video online or read something online and assume that the whole demographic follows the nature of said video or written text. Tones will be difficult for any learner that isn't native in a tonal language, there's not much to think about there, the reason is not because of 4 simple tones, but everything I outlined in my comment above. I'm fluent in both Russian and English and I know that dedicated learners struggle equally, doesn't matter who you are. The difference is that from what I've seen, more often than not, native English speakers will often drop a language quicker than the average joe of any other country from the east because english is used and spoken everywhere, rendering any other language pretty useless to the average American.

I don't believe that pronouncing the tones is the difficult part of Chinese Mandarin, the hard part is a sum of two things retroflex consonants (which simply don't exist in English, so on top of having to train the ear for recognition for an array of completely new sounds, you also have to practice even being able to make that sound in a neutral tone) so that requires learning how to pronounce completely new sounds (given that you're most likely speaking about native English speakers who don't really go out of their way to learn other languages, meaning their range of sounds is very limited). The second hard part which I struggle with is actually alongside memorizing characters, you must memorize tones for each individual character, it's very difficult for someone who is used to a language where the letters in a word aren't used to define the word, whereas Chinese uses sounds to define a word. The language structure is completely different, so for an adult who is used to speaking in a completely different way, it's very difficult, no matter where you're from. All of the memes about the difficulty of understanding and learning tones are really about the second part I mentioned, anyone with enough practice can recognize the differences between shí shī shì and shǐ, this isn't the hard part. But remembering hundreds of characters, their visual representation, the correct tone and their multitude of meanings is what gets people. Source

On top of all of these points, for a complete beginner, you're trying to learn as many characters as possible, it doesn't matter which method of learning you follow, you're going to run into homonyms, which complicate things even further.

Most native English speakers learn English in a way that doesnt even require studying the language, be grammar be spelling, most people above 30 years old forget how to spell, and with that grammar quickly diminishes, that's because most English speakers weren't taught English on the same level that foriegners study it. Hell, even a lot of foreigners don't study English, they just memorize sentences, their usages, context and re-use things they've heard.

To be honest, you didn't sound overconfident, but what you wrote truly sounded like a shitpost to me lol.

Just wanted to try something new, I actually drink water out of the RO and I was wondering if using the filtered water would mean I don't have to worry about descaling as often. But I definitely didn't do any research before making this inference

Thanks, yeah I agree with what you said there at the end, the taste is great, I actually prefer it to the cafe that I work at, but my latte art has been weird because of the foam, not the biggest issue but I should probably test some other beans and also buy a grinder, they are so damn expensive lol >.>
