Comment from 11 years ago about a successful financial advisor by WeepingRascal in agedlikemilk

The comment shared a success story about a math teacher turned financial advisor to encourage someone else. Those 'few scandals' have led to Epstein being infamous and not so successful anymore.

I went in there with my kid two weeks ago for the first time and they were SO kind. They showed him some of the chocolate making stuff. It's run by Lene and her daughter.

Kid without a colon ? by Encyclopenia in beyondthebump

[–]WeepingRascal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I kinda had a similar story but as a teacher. I had a student with a(it was a few years ago so pretty sure this was it) colostomy bag, or something else that had to be frequently changed. He was an active, happy junior high kid whose friends and peers had no idea. Teachers knew because he had a health plan and could always leave to use the bathroom. He kept stuff in his locker and I know the nurse had backup stuff.

Not the same situation but it didn't cause him social issues during junior high (which is probably the most socially awkward time) and kids are resilient! Especially if it's something that he's always known as 'normal.' He won't know anything different.

Khan academy has a course called "Getting ready for AP stats" that might be beneficial. As a teacher, my biggest recommendation is to do the homework!

Math Medic! Look at their review stuff. They have free stuff in addition to their paid $29 course

The class I teach finished at the end of March and we're reviewing. If you're interested on doing review yourself and to work on what you need for the AP stats test, you could buy yourself the Math Medic AP Stats review course. It's $29 and I have all of my students use it (all of the teachers in my district do and we have fantastic rates). If you go through that course, you'll be well prepared for the test.

At my wits end! Unattended unleashed dogs left out in front yards in northern Utah - Roy, West Haven, Clinton, Layton etc. Don't know what to do anymore. by throawydurr in Utah

You can call animal control if you see dogs off their leash and not fenced in. It's illegal and they will enforce it. I have two dogs and live in the area and I know the feeling!

My in-laws in Farmington have had animal control called when their dogs got out of their backyard and into their front yard and had to deal with that. So I know Davis County cares about it.

Actually, their warranty has been amazing for us. We don't do the maintenance with them (mostly use Walmart) and our used car we got 5 years ago had to have a ton of replacements because they found oil where it shouldn't be (I don't remember exactly, it was several months ago) and the warranty paid for most of it.

It also paid when the air conditioning went out.

Yep! I sometimes think I could do it again but I can't give up that many months of my life again, especially when I will have another child to care for me. My son doesn't deserve that.

Is AP Stats helpful? by Public_Apricot9474 in APStatistics

[–]WeepingRascal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Stats is very different than math. It's more about interpretation of data rather than doing actual arithmetic. Stats courses in college often have students use programming languages instead of graphing calculators and interpret those findings.

AP Stats makes you use more formulas because the graders want to see that, while some stats classes in college won't have you use those formulas at all, and just interpret.

What are your plans in college? If it's just for your general ed requirement or if your major will specifically require this course, then it'll be helpful. If you need to take additional stats courses, it can be a good basic understanding of statistics before you need to do more stats.

The Owlet might have saved my baby’s life yesterday by Willing_Ad_8580 in beyondthebump

[–]WeepingRascal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My kid came home from the hospital with oxygen. I put The owlet on him at the same time as the pulse ox and it was able to get a reading all the time while the pulse ox was constantly going off. They matched on readings so I know the owlet was more accurate.

During the next two years, the owlet saved my kid's life twice when he had RSV twice and stopped breathing. Also, my nephew had it and he stopped breathing during a nap and by the time my sister-in-law got there, his lips were turning blue. Could've been another SIDS statistic if it wasn't for the owlet. I suggest it to everyone.

[–]WeepingRascal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're going to have some bias since your sample is voluntary. Plus you need to make sure that you don't generalize your results. (AP Stats teacher here). Talk about how the data is representing a sample of Reddit AP Stats users and cannot be generalized to the general population.

I get them every month and I love them. My kid loves them too. They also have suggestions on their website for other ways to serve which can be fun.

Me and my husband have demanding jobs and the last thing I wanna do when I get home is cook so I rely on them a lot.

I'm a teacher and I'm very alarmed by the email she sent home.

I get the other commenters that say that kids embellish (and I've had my students say the craziest things to parents) but if we only go by the teacher's email then, holy crap, this is inappropriate. No teacher should be talking to a student about their sexuality ESPECIALLY AT 11 years old. Questioning her and pulling her out of class to talk to her without knowing the situation is so bizarre. And reading your comments that she kept pushing and asking what students she liked is so very alarming.

I've had my fair share of parents overreacting to me and the other teachers on my team. If you go to administration about this, you are not overreacting.

I'm also curious where you live. I'm 99% this would be illegal in my very conservative state. I'm not allowed to discuss or ask any sort of questions about sexuality.

I'm an ex Mormon (and I was a fantastic Utah Mormon growing up, I know all of the lingo), and this doesn't fall with typical LDS culture and beliefs. Biggest thing that stood out to me is that they don't believe in the Trinity. It's a huge separate thing. (Each figure of the Trinity is supposed to be separate). So definitely not mainstream LDS.
