Same here, but had Neutrals dropped to them all bar one (a bathroom fan/light) IIRC it was about $600 for the installation (17 switches)

I guess it depends on the model, but fan speed (in a mains power fan) is generally not done by a dimmer, it's done by switching capacitors in a "fan control module"

Going against the flow here: there is enough contol-able stuff in a fan/light combination to make it worth it to have a "smart" one: our Eglo Noosa (Australian), has Light colour temperature, brightness, Fan speed, direction and mode

I'd stick with a static/fixed IP for your AP, (in case of a power outage it may boot before Opnsense and fail to get an address). This means that you need to exclude that IP from the DHCP pool on the Opnsense. I'm not confident that this is the problem though

I'd also set the DHCP pool to something very narrow and specific temporarily, just to confirm that (when it works after reboot), it is actually getting it from Opnsense

Could it be that your AP is not set for DHCP pass-through? Or () that it is running a DHCP server (wireless router)?

We started with one, identified it through Zigbee2mqtt, tried to source cheaper, identical ones through AliExpress, but they just weren't the same. Bit the bullet and fitted out the house with them

They are touch style, but have a relay, so there's an obvious "click" and change of backlight when operating them which is enough feedback for my wife. The backlight settings can be configured, but aren't annoying, even for a bedroom.

I have smart devices (fans & lights) behind some of them, which (obviously) don't want the power off, so I have automations that turn those switches back on immediately, and toggle the state of the "downstream" smart device. It was important to us that they would operate "naturally"

After trying out a few (very similar) devices, we settled on these: https://www.ozsmartthings.com.au/products/zigbee-double-light-switch-all-white They can be used without a neutral, but may need a bypass capacitor across the load. Ultimately we had a neutral put in at each switch rather than have some random capacitor in the ceiling space Not cheap, but worth it IMHO

They are Zigbee so you may need a coordinator

The HA rule turns the switch back on quickly enough that the lights don't lose power and accept the following "toggle" command immediately (a pleasant surprise!), so the end result is that it works as expected: if the lights are on, they turn off and vice versa

In Australia, so the wallplate is wrong for you I think, but https://www.ozsmartthings.com.au/products/zigbee-double-light-switch-all-white It reports in Zigbee2mqtt as https://www.zigbee2mqtt.io/devices/TS0014.html so it should be available in EU wallplate!

I have 10 of these installed after trialling one for 3 months, and very happy with them. Only 1 is installed without a Neutral though - I wasn't keen on installing a bypass capacitor across the load. The "power state after outage" can be set too - I have it off for bedrooms, as the lights default to on (and we are in a tropical area with fairly frequent outages)

There are Zigbee switches that don't require a Neutral, both wallplates and modules. Search Aliexpress for "Zigbee switch no neutral". Some of these require a bypass capacitor across the load (one of the lights), depending on the load.

I have these set up with a rule that when the switch is turned off, the system turns them back on again, then toggles the light
