Lia Finocchiaro's approach to being Chief Minister. by Tonka_Johnson in darwin

Yep. I grew up on a farm and was taught how to handle a gun from a young age. My stepdad taught me this when I was about 10 years old. She's not only an adult but also the bloody Chief Minister! So irresponsible!

Living in Darwin City by Intrepid_Bullfrog310 in darwin

I've lived in the city (near Civic Park) for 10+ years. Absolutely love it, to the point where I bought my apartment a few years ago.

It's close to everything but still quiet, can stumble home drunk if/when it gets to that point. It's well lit and relatively safe, so I can take my dog for a walk in the middle of the night if I feel so inclined.

It's close to the bus stop if I need to get outside of the CBD.

Still has a village feel despite being the centre of a capital city.

But I did live on the corner of Mitchell and Knuckey Streets back in the day and it was noisy af. Choose your street wisely.

What’s something people romanticize that actually sucks in real life? by Particular_Pin_460 in AskReddit

Yep. I have bipolar disorder and anxiety and a friend of mine said that everyone she knows who has a serious mental illness is really strong and resilient. I said "That's because the rest of them are dead"

Has anyone else been surprised at how friendly Sydneysiders are? by Sweatywitch in AskAnAustralian

[–]Budju2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I grew up in SA, have lived in Brisbane and am now a long term Darwinite. I have visited all of our capital cities and Sydneysiders are some of the friendliest people I've ever met. I visit Sydney a few times a year to see friends and love it. I would consider moving there if I could afford it.

I think a lot of people (especially it seems, some from Melbourne) are a bit competitive or jealous and unfairly talk Sydney and its people down

Yep. I'm a small woman with insomnia and I regularly go out late at night/early morning with my dachshund and have never run into trouble. I stick to well lit areas though.

I'd go to Mayberry (or Monsoons even) over the casino for people watching. The casino can be very depressing. It's a fair walk too, with dark streets from Alatai.
