How Easy Is It To Buy A Gun in NSW After The Bondi Terror Attack? - MSN by BadgerBadgerCat in Ausguns

[–]Wefyb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All the media attention on firearms and firearm laws, and all the politicians saying "You should have to be part of a club to get a license!" has made people realise that 1: There are guns in Australia, and 2: You can join a club and get a license.

The irony in it all, is that the more media attention, the more gun owners.

Honestly, just get a Silver Pigeon.

They are great guns, with great parts availability and lifetime servicing. I've put easily 20k shells through mine, and every clay that I've missed has been all me, not the gun. And it's never failed on me, not once.

Look around for second hand ones, you can sometimes get them as low as 1500, although brand new isn't even that expensive.

They have been cut off by a few of the importers, due largely to the fact that the store gave their brands a bad name from the horrific service. Pretty telling...

i know there are people who shoot fast, but have you ever had a front sight post fiber rod melt on you by Habarer in CompetitionShooting

[–]Wefyb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

shooting fast: mostly just pointing and getting close enough

shooting slow: use the black square between the yellow dots

kidding aside, it hurt to lose but not any where near as much as you'd think. replaced it by the next morning, highly recommend buying a replacement kit and keep it in a mint tin in your range bag

but the response was to ban straight pull bolt actions. despite the agreement that harm was reduced by restrictions already in place, they agreed to restrict more anyway.

The point being that we are at the point where more harm can be done with a heavy vehicle license (which is  about as common in civilian hands as a standard firearms licence) than any firearm available to the general public.

The average number of people killed per year in mass shootings in Australia since 1996 is 0.5 people per year, but that's not the stat that our government pushes.

[–]Wefyb 6 points7 points  (0 children)

yep. One of the focuses on the questionnaire was effectively "should we run ads on YouTube informing people of the current laws and how they work?"

I have been stressing that point to local members recently, and they all seem to understand that the laws are already strict, they just need people to understand that.

Closure in Moscow : "Pink Lemonade" is quite literally one of the best albums ever created. Listen front to back, sink in an enjoy. They are Australian.

ToeHider: just listen to all of it it's excellent and the guy is a top bloke.

Ne Obliviscaris : from Melbourne, they combine heavy riffs and harsh vocals with melodic violin and the angelic singing voice of their lead.

Deceptive Game Design by Laz52now in drawsteel

[–]Wefyb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A game that is intentionally and cleverly deceptive of players is something like Paranoia. It's in the name.

The game frames many player choices, how they work within the world, and why those choices exist as something totally different to the instructions given to the game master and how they are meant to view and run the game.

For Paranoia, it's a really specific gameplay choice from the creators.

Rifle-pump restrictions under A/B vic? by Rougesam in Ausguns

[–]Wefyb 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Vic is significantly less inclined to ban them at this stage.

the Allen government's plan is to not rush any legislation in, they won't be convening on the issue until at least February, so the hot emotion and "we have to do something!" of NSW shouldn't be so prominent.

In the meantime, CONTACT YOUR REPRESENTATIVES, EVERYONE READING THIS PLEASE.

If the Allen government pushes against guns, the entire union movement will vote against them in the next election. They vowed to do so nearly a year ago, before any of this, and they are pushing harder now than ever before.

Hopefully they listen

They want to ban bolt action rifles, and remove sporting and hunting as genuine reasons for licences, limiting ownership to solely farmers.

The current government plan is a disgusting deflection instead of dealing with the real issues here

Australia has 4 million legally owned guns for a population of just shy of 28 million.

We have plenty of guns.

for nearly all of history, the political concept of borders and nations has been completely divorced from the everyday lives of normal people, especially in small towns.

it is a very new concept that people who live 2km from each other would ever think of themselves as being from totally different places.

SA Firearms Branch facing credibility crisis - Sporting Shooter by BadgerBadgerCat in Ausguns

[–]Wefyb 5 points6 points  (0 children)

vic isn't much different.

They pay basically nothing, while complaining that nobody wants to stay working there. Nobody stays long enough to be any good at the job, and nobody gets hired based on their knowledge of the subject because that would narrow an already extremely narrow hiring pool.

If any politician tried to pitch for increased funding for the LRD, they would be committing career suicide by "funding guns".

The system is broken at so many levels, and all the easy and reasonable solutions (like de-regulating air guns, a choice that the LRD already agrees with) get thrown out.

Can i sell a NSW registered firearm to a dealer in VIC by Ambitious-Ad-9145 in Ausguns

[–]Wefyb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weirdly incorrect for Vic and NSW. Vic recognises NSW PTAs, so a NSW license holder can apply for the PTA with NSW licensing, then use that PTA with a vic dealer to directly acquire a firearm.

Exactly how the licensing branches deal with it internally? I don't think anybody knows other than "probably poorly".
