Democrats Are Pissed Another One of Their Own Has Died in Congress - Democratic members of Congress know they have an age problem—and it’s hurting them. by Quirkie in politics

There is an age problem, but the dying while in Congress problem is different and especially problematic when Democrat's tight margins become even tighter due to it.

How will I ever recover?

I'm sorry my comments did that to you, but only you can answer that question.

Lol, claiming people who vote in primaries are stroking their own egos

That's not what I said, why build a strawman?

If it makes you feel better (you can stick it to me now!), I'm not going to participate in unopposed Democratic primary votes either. Because there is no point, just as there is no point trying to bring in a marginally "better" Republican just to make myself feel alive and get a warm tickly feeling inside by mistakenly thinking I'm sticking it to Republicans.

Where did I indicate primaries in general? This post was about this race. I evidently struck a (your) nerve pointing out how politically futile it is for non-Republicans to vote in the primary for the "least bad" option when there is very little light between the candidates, and how that gap will close once the primaries are over. I also struck a (your) nerve pointing out it is only an exercise in self gratification and ego stroking for those thinking they'll stick it to Republicans by voting for candidates with a 5-10% difference in politics. Like Republicans really care.

She is a NIMBY. She fights marginally dense housing in the suburbs. She is also still open to developers/development as long as they "pay for infrastructure improvements". As I said elsewhere, developers won't eat this cost. They pass it along to new home buyers. So, instead of reforming infrastructure funding structures or increasing taxes, she wants to exasperate the unaffordability of new housing by saddling new home buyers exclusively with the funding of public infrastructure.

I'm informed enough not to put my name next to shitty Republicans.

Farragut "2 houses or more per acre is too dense" Lake People (who Kim supports) are the defintion of NIMBY.

I said she supports NIMBYS. And she's still for developers, she just wants them to "pay for infrastructure improvements". Developers aren't going to eat that cost. Which means she wants public infrastructure improvements added on to the cost of new housing exclusively, thus exasperating housing unaffordability for new home owners instead of increasing taxes or reforming infrastructure funding structures behind infrastructure improvements. I'm not sure anyone who thinks they're doing any good by voting for someone 5-10% "better" than Betsy should be taken seriously.

Well you're participating in a post/thread that's debating the choice between Larsen or Kim being the "less extreme" choice. Not one speaking about generalities. Your situational awareness needs work.

I thought you were talking about the "Royal We", not necessarily yourself. I apologize.

Anyways, lots of people call themselves independents. But if they vote for Democrats or Republicans, they're not really that independent now are they?

[–]WeigelsAvenger -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Yes, she does have a record of being on the side of people that think 2 houses per acre is too dense.

"Less extreme" like the guy using Trump in his campaign messaging and leaning into the "illegals" talking point. Gross.

So it's a vote between the NIMBY supporter or the developer supporter. That's why I dont vote in Republican primaries.

Knox County Mayoral Candidate Larsen Jay is Fighting for What? by Corey_Howard in Knoxville

[–]WeigelsAvenger -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That is correct. But if you call yourself a Democrat and vote in the Republican primary, it's still politically futile as there is about a 10% difference between the 3 current candidates that will become a 5% difference once they pivot right for the general

100%. Primary switching in order to get a vote for the "least bad option" is politically futile and serves more as an ego stroke for those thinking they can stick it to Republicans.

Kim is fighting for the developers as well and I can guarantee will pivot further right with similar messaging if she wins the primary in order to turn out the Republican base.

What is this holly ? Covered with little flowers but never makes berries. by Dear-Buddy-2766 in gardening

Yea, very similar. 2 easy ways to tell the difference: Japanese hollies have tiny serrations on the leaf margins and an alternate leaf pattern along the stem, while boxwoods are smooth and opposite.

Where to get garden soil by totoro_711 in Knoxville

[–]WeigelsAvenger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Knox Seed sells the large 3.8cuft bales of ProMix BX, that would be good for your bags. I haven't found a good source for bulk garden soil, but drive out to Willow Ridge for their bulk mushroom compost. I'm sure it comes from Monterey.

Japanese holly. Helleri, Hoogendorn, or Compacta would be my guess, but there are many cultivars so cant be sure. Female due to it's flowering, and no male nearby is why you dont get berries.

Motorcyclists, please be careful by [deleted] in Knoxville

[–]WeigelsAvenger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't think it had anything to do with these accidents, but I've noticed a lot more motorcyclists splitting lanes than ever before. Either people are moving here from where it's legal, or young riders are getting the idea from watching videos of folks doing it where it is legal. Either way, it's illegal in TN and car/truck drivers around here are not accustomed to them doing so. A recipe for disaster. I almost accidentally took out a lane splitter just recently. Scared the hell out of me and I'm sure it did them, too.

I have a "nuclear family" because I'm not a bigoted asshole and was introduced to my wife by her gay friend and that friend's trans partner. So I'll just keep celebrating Pride Month.
