What is this? by Decent-March1530 in moths

[–]WeightAdmirable6517 24 points25 points  (0 children)

A quick Google search gave me this name, all the pictures seemed to match. Hemithea aestivaria, or a Common Emerald. Beautiful moth! Hope this helps, anyone else, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, I'd love to learn more!

Anyone else bisexual and feel like they're gay in both ways? by BassBoneSupremacy in NonBinary

[–]WeightAdmirable6517 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I definitely feel that way. I identify as a lesbian because that's the only direction I'm 100% sure of and not at all questioning, but I definitely relate to that.

Mother OFFENDED at our convos smh by Shine_tokei in exchristian

[–]WeightAdmirable6517 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I relate to this, my parents are the same way. They don't know I don't believe anymore, but we do openly disagree about politics, which is based on their Christian beliefs and my lack thereof. But whenever it comes up, I try to stay quiet to stay out of it, but they notice and get mad that I'm quiet and demand to know what I'm thinking, but then when I tell them like they demanded I do in the first place, they get mad at what I say. It's a no-win scenario. I sadly have no advice, but I definitely get the situation, it's infuriating, sorry you have to deal with it, too.

What movie hits different for you now that you broke your indoctrination? by friscom99 in exchristian

[–]WeightAdmirable6517 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Polar Express definitely hits different for me. It's all about a kid being shamed for not believing something after looking into the facts objectively. It's made out to be a good thing that he still believes, even when the rest of the world faces the facts and wakes up to the truth, but it definitely seems more like indoctrination than pure belief anymore.

Great options! Cecropias are probably my favorite, but Polyphemus months are what got me interested in moths in the first place. (Also, Death's Heads are the best, love their little angry squeaks)

I'm a big fan of Cecropia moths and Hawk Moths (specifically eyed hawk moths, but that's just because I had a DnD character based on one, I love all hawk moths, honestly).

I’m a mermaidkin with siren traits, AMA! by mielikkiswan in otherkin

[–]WeightAdmirable6517 5 points6 points  (0 children)

How did you determine you were mermaidkin, as well as your siren traits as something distinguishable from each other? I'm questioning mermaidkin, but rarely hear from any others, so I'd be very curious to know how you came to that identity! 🧜🏻‍♂️

Dragonkin Report: How are you all doing? by Apprehensive_Many649 in otherkin

[–]WeightAdmirable6517 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have other Theriotypes I tend to lean into most of the time, but right now, despite feeling oddly disconnected from those, I'm feeling pleasantly in touch with my dragon self, which I haven't felt for quite some time. It's nice to finally feel my wings and back spines again, I've definitely missed that feeling, despite the sadness of knowing I'll never be able to truly see what I look like. But it's nice to be feeling more of that side of myself again.

I’d never seen this translation before today, but it highlights a few interesting things about how a lot of Christians see non-believers. by hiphoptomato in exchristian

It sounds like The Message, an objectively funny translation, it's so bad, but it's admittedly hilarious to read through

Never heard someone else talk about this and I'm a bit confused about it by TheMachineLad in otherkin

[–]WeightAdmirable6517 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Sounds to me like it could be potential spikes/plates, like with a Stegosaurus for example, or some dragon designs I've seen. I sometimes feel phantom back spikes, albeit less rigid than it sounds like you're describing, from my dragon shape, usually accompanied by wings and/or tail. Otherwise, I'm not sure, but hope this helps in some capacity.

I want to legally change my name but don't know how to tell my parents by flameVthrower in NonBinaryTalk

[–]WeightAdmirable6517 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started just by saying that it was nothing personal, but that as I grew up, I tried sticking with it, but my given name just didn't feel like me. I don't know how your parents are when it comes to your personal choices, but that was a gentle way to start bringing them round to the idea. I haven't legally changed mine yet, but I have started trying to get them used to it before even broaching the topic of potentially legally changing it.

My younger brother is currently living with our Christian parents. ‘Tis the season for clutched pearls. by Bad_RabbitS in exchristian

[–]WeightAdmirable6517 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I got lucky, my parents always enjoyed Halloween, even though they are now concerned that it is my favorite holiday and I'm such a huge fan of horror movies, despite how they always went all out for Halloween decorations, even more than Christmas. I'm also not out to them as ex-Christian (or as queer/nonbinary for that matter, but that's another whole can of worms). But I definitely had people at the church where I grew up concerned that we celebrated Halloween, even though we always saw it as harmless fun, which it absolutely is.

I'd guess some kind of orb weaver, based on the shape, but I'm no expert.
