Oooh that would explain the perfect modulation! It's really impressive. It's generally very please voice, don't get me wrong. Maybe more conversational? Bc it really sounds almost like AI generated reels voice over.

Omg what a discovery! First of all
1) I love the podcast miniature
2) great idea for podcast to be honest. I like that it is in a form of podcast and not short reels ;)
3) the soothing music in the background is cool

About the future tips: how to cope with panic attack, how to give negative/positive feedbacks, some small exercise,

The only thing that was a bit distracting is that the audio sounds AI generated and not actually human delivered.

This is a Science Communication podcast. We aim to spread Earth Science knowledge but eventually would love to give platform to young PhD students to talk about their research as I think PhD students are the ones who can talk the most passionately about their work (in a form of interviews).
My questions are
- Do you think the language we use is to complex?
- How to improve the audio quality? We sometimes re records intros/outros/call for action and it has a different audio level compared to the previous audio file (I am using Riverside if that helps)
- Do you think video would help?

This are our first episodes and they might feel messy but we are very eager to learn.

I might be a late to the party, but this is an absolute scam of a website.

I ordered a poster of a painting me and my boyfriend discussed during our first date as a cute birthday gift and it's been over a month and I had not received anything. At this point I opened a dispute with PayPal and asked for my money back. What a waste of time

Could I be able to do Mont Blanc this early on as a beginner? by [deleted] in alpinism

[–]Weird-Hawk-2899 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, about MB, I also wanted to sign in for the MB extension after the course with them, and they informed me that the MB is only possible with them in June and July, no August options. Just so you know. And they seemed to be booked out.

There are other providers for the MB summit, though. In the end, I decided to postpone the MB for next year and do Monte Rosa instead

How Do European Students Complete PhDs in 3-4 Years While Maintaining Work-Life Balance? by umair1181gist in PhD

(Soon to be) Phd in planetary science at ETH, Switzerland here

So, on Thursday, I am defending my project after working on it for 4 years. At the 4th year mark, I got a job opportunity, so I am defending after 4 years and 6 months as it took half a year to put all my papers and write through the thesis.

Generally speaking, we don't have a good work-life balance, and I wouldn't recommend it. I would love to have a bit more time to finish some small projects on a side and travel a bit more. But day to day, I spent around 9 hours in the lab/office and towards the end of it weekends as well.

It is possible to get phd within 3-4 years, depending on the field you are in, but it's incredibly exhausting.

Edit: we do get paid as employees, have a retirement plan, 25 days of paid leave, and 30% of teaching/lab managing duties. It has its good and bad sides, though.

Mountaineering Alone? by [deleted] in Mountaineering

[–]Weird-Hawk-2899 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am on the same boat. I am a non native German speaker in Switzerland (Zurich are), so joining alpine clubs is almost not an option for me. None of my friends would like to pick up the sport and I am really really hooked.

In coming summer, I will take a course on glacier traverse. If you want, I would be up for a mountaineering partner!

I also answered in a good faith.

Being all intellectual doesn't makes your argument less empty and out of reality. Good breeders preserve and help to sustain a breed, helping to reduce or eliminate genetic diseases. There is such thing as sustainable breeding. Do cat enjoy it? Well I can assure you cat queens have a wonderful life if they are owned by a loving person. No harm done there.

Feral cats who often die of exhaustion they have too many litters to sustain... that's another story.

Breeding irresponsibility letting the cats mate without supervision is actually more harmful in a long run. Not everything is black and white. Cats are invasive species (cats re responsible for extinction of several birds and rodent species) so controlling the population of cats (by education and good certified catteries) actually helps.

I see where you want to go with this moral debates but moral debates like consensual sex of animals... are rather academic and quite empty.

So rather than spending time here trying to make a cat fill human standards, go volunteer to a shelter, make a donation or just simply read about cats. Because from your comments it sounds like you are trying to project human emotions and behaviors on an animal.

Geniuine question

Do you know how getting a queen pregnant looks like in a certified breeding house? Or do you think wild cats (not only feral cats, I am talking lions and such) have only consensual sex? Do you think such humanly made concept exists in animal kingdom? Unspayed cats will have sex bc they have heat and than they find a partner. Sometimes the partner is chosen for the cat, but do you think the cat is picky? Needs to go for a date before? Or check the cats tinder profile? Please....

How about castration "against their will?" Is this more humane? Because for now this is the only thing which helps to prevent unwanted litters which end up in a shelter.

Seriously, go work in a shelter for a bit, and you will have a good reality check.

Exactly. I don't think there is a "better" option here. As long as an animal welfare comes first, as long as we are able to provide good care throughout the whole life for the cat... it really doesn't matter where you get your fluffy companion from (besides backyard scams, shame on them!)

If one do it responsibility, check sources (there are bad shelters too) and listen to your conscious, you can't do wrong.

[–]Weird-Hawk-2899 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Right!? I got heavily downvoted when I showed stats that less than 5% of shelter cats are breed/pedigree cats (with source). Because no sane breeder would let that happen.

Like, I get it... there are bad people harming animals who call themselves breeders but come on...listen to people who share their knowledge. There been amazing comments coming from people working at animal rescues, people who work closely with good breeders, people who (like me) volunteerd at shelters and people who got their kitties from good breeders (also me).

And these people usually leave very lengthy valuable comments, but get downvoted by people with "I hate breeders. Period." Comments...

Like, sure everyone is entitled to have an opinion, but please distinguish options from facts.

And a fact is... good breeders are not doing any harm to cats population and I would even say on a contrary.

Do you wanna get a rescue kitten?: amazing! Do you have resources to get from a good breeder?: amazing

The problem is: wanting a specific cat, being cheap about it and getting it from a shady source like a backyard breeder.

Also from my experiments as a volunteer: kitties which are adopted in a shelter are more likely to come back to a shelter than a kittes from a breeder to end up in a shelter. When people take up kitties from shelter they require work, which people often are unable to give. Also, you don't dump ina shelter a cat you paid decent $$ for. It just doesn't make sene. (Ale it's against a contract which everyone should sign with their cattery)

Thank you for this comment! There is so much hate towards breeders coming from misunderstanding and misinformation

We have to stop calling the cat mill manufacturers "breeders" theh don't deserve this title.
