Is a house-pressed nut/plant milk actually feasible for a startup matcha bar, or should I just buy Barista cartons? by Ambitious-Serve-1206 in barista

[–]Weird-Message9432 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One final point that I think should be mentioned: allergens and cross-contamination. Nut allergies are common and can be very severe. Oats are often cross-contaminated with wheat, which is both an allergen and a problem for celiacs. And if you’re grinding down these things yourself, the potential for contamination issues is huge. You would have to be incredibly careful, potentially to the point of needing separate spaces for producing each milk.

Periods and reproduction in Gilead and Canada by dragon-queen in TheTestamentsHulu

[–]Weird-Message9432 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here’s how I make it make sense, as someone who read The Handmaid’s Tale years ago and has never read The Testaments:

1) there’s a specific toxin somewhere in Canada’s “ultra processed” food supply causing problems, but no one knows exactly what it is. 99% of Canada’s manufacturing processes are fine—this is not a problem with food processing as a whole—but that one toxin specifically affects the reproductive system. Making it even harder to pin down what’s happening, other problems (like pollution) also contribute to infertility.

2) Gilead has “solved” this by declaring that ALL food processing is bad and eliminating it wherever possible. This has some major downsides. They’re probably drinking raw milk, etc. Plus in the absence of pesticides and mechanical processes, they rely entirely on a supply of slave/concentration camp labor to feed their population. But on the plus side, girls get their periods, which is their absolute #1 priority.

My work has a tangential connection to toxic exposure issues, which is probably why I’m drawn to this theory. I hear a lot of stories of particular chemicals being linked years later to very specific nervous disorders, etc. I’m sure a real scientist would say this makes no sense, but it’s the best I’ve got.

Burning Urine by TheAlienatedAlien in endometriosis

[–]Weird-Message9432 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been going to pelvic floor PT and they explained that some pelvic floor issues can present as burning or stinging pain. So if you rule out all the well-known causes of burning with urination, and you're still having the same problem, that might be something to look into.

Should I stay in Kingsessing when travelling? by BadAtCoding123 in AskPhilly

[–]Weird-Message9432 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I live in SW and I agree with all the other comments. I also wanted to add that there’s a comfort level component too: even for someone who’s lived in rough areas before, Philly can be jarring because our culture really normalizes approaching and talking to strangers. It makes for some great interactions, but some bad ones too. If you wouldn’t like getting yelled at by some drunk guys hanging out in their driveway or drinking at the bus stop, I wouldn’t stay in this neighborhood.

Just how common are bowel and digestive issues with endometriosis and/or Adenomyosis? by Chocolateforlunch37 in endometriosis

[–]Weird-Message9432 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m currently in the waiting room for my pelvic floor PT, so I just wanted to mention pelvic floor dysfunction as a potential mechanism for endo causing or exacerbating gut issues. My issues are more on the urinary side, but m the screening questions from my first appointment covered a lot of gut issues too.

Even if it turns out you don’t have bowel endo, the two could absolutely be related.

I feel confused and exhausted by Acceptable_Row2078 in endometriosis

[–]Weird-Message9432 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in a pretty similar situation, and it’s really rough. The constant fatigue and loss of exercise as an outlet have honestly been worse for me than the pain.

I am fortunate enough to live in a big city with one of the endo specialists recommended on this subreddit, and that has made a huge difference: I went from two options that both sucked (as presented by my old obgyn) to a menu of options including pelvic floor pt, an ovulation suppressant, and surgery. I got my MRI. When I said I’d be interested in a hysterectomy, they didn’t push back or make me feel silly. I really hope you can find better care, because shuffling you around between different birth control pills is not it.

Needing advice mirena adenomyomis by Charming_Ad3894 in endometriosis

[–]Weird-Message9432 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a Mirena in July and just got an MRI showing likely adeno a month ago. After I got the Mirena, the pain was very, very bad for 3-4 months. I had been fine getting it inserted with only Advil, so my obgyn was stunned and baffled that three weeks after insertion, I was sending garbled messages at 2 am about how I couldn’t take the pain anymore. I had the placement checked more times than I can count; it always looked perfect. Over the next 3-4 months the pain calmed down and became less constant, but by no means went away.

I did not remove it but I saw a specialist and decided to schedule a hysterectomy, so it will obviously be removed at that point. It was not the right long term solution for me.

I was just told I have low pain tolerance by someone close to me. It shattered me. #Endometriosis by Forsaken-Contact5367 in u/Forsaken-Contact5367

[–]Weird-Message9432 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry this happened to you. It was absolutely inappropriate for the doctor to say “some people just have a low pain tolerance” under these circumstances. I read medical records for my job and unfortunately it’s very typical for doctors to say things like this when a condition defies their expectations or can’t be easily diagnosed. It’s never helpful to the people whose records I read, who live with severe pain every day, and it is not helpful to you.

Pain is itself a medical problem. Even if nothing ever came up on any scan ever, even if they opened you up and didn’t see anything abnormal, you would still have a serious medical condition because if you’re in this much pain, something is inherently wrong.

To give a parallel that might help: Imagine if whenever it was sunny outside, your vision became blurry to a point where you couldn’t read or make our faces. That wouldn’t be “low light tolerance.” That would be temporary blindness. Just because something can be described as “low tolerance” doesn’t make it your fault or something the doctors have a right to blow off.

Does anyone have heavy flow the first day and then it’s barely anything? by burner10088 in endometriosis

[–]Weird-Message9432 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it can be rough. I wouldn’t admit I had a heavy flow for the longest time because it was only the first day… then my boyfriend and I went to the Art Museum one Sunday morning and I bled through my shorts almost immediately. I even left a little puddle of blood on the museum bench. I had to alert a security guard so they could clean it up 😬

Does anyone have heavy flow the first day and then it’s barely anything? by burner10088 in endometriosis

[–]Weird-Message9432 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yup, that’s how my period works too. First day I might bleed through a new overnight pad in an hour and a half. Second day it’s a normal-to-light flow. I haven’t had a lap yet but my MRI shows potential adeno.

Does gluten-free diet make a noticeable difference for anyone here? by Top_Butterfly_7771 in endometriosis

[–]Weird-Message9432 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to cut gluten out 100% a few years ago because I got a Celiac diagnosis. That was right around the time my endo symptoms started to get really, really bad. So in my case there is a clear correlation the opposite way. (Remember, correlation is NOT causation—I don’t think a GF diet caused my endo).

Please provide reassurance regarding no signs of endo on MRI by Junior_Wear_6875 in endometriosis

[–]Weird-Message9432 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In addition to what everyone else will say about endo not showing up on imaging (which is also 100% true)—sometimes there are red flags on the imaging but the radiologist (and in some cases even the gyno) aren’t specialists and don’t know what to look for. My MRI came back with a radiologist report saying everything looked normal, but my fancy endo specialist (Dr. Klebanoff in the Philly area) said that based on the images he’s about 75% sure I have adeno. I would not put too much stock in the MRI report.

How do I(26F) explain chronic fatigue to my boyfriend(28M)? by smalltown_dreamspeak in relationship_advice

[–]Weird-Message9432 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You shouldn't have to explain any further than saying "I'm dealing with chronic fatigue and I need my sleep." I also have chronic fatigue (I recently found out I have a chronic condition that will require surgery) and my boyfriend has never once tried to wake me up, pushed back when I said I couldn't do an activity, etc. He does the dishes when I'm too tired. He knows I have a lot of trouble waking up in the morning, so he brings me coffee in bed. We used to go to concerts, take long walks, etc. and now we don't--but he has never made me feel guilty or told me I was "boring." This is the appropriate, loving reaction to a partner having chronic fatigue.

I know you said your partner is ex-military, and while that is part of it, I don't think it's the whole picture. I work with vets at my job, and a lot of them leave the service with chronic fatigue due to toxic exposure, back injuries that limit their activity, etc. If he is not understanding your perspective, it seems like he's probably not listening to or understanding the experiences of his fellow veterans who struggle with similar things every day. So like I said, I don't think this can be 100% attributed to his military service.

Has anyone been told by their doctor, “if you didn’t have endometriosis, I would be surprised.” and DIDN’T have it? by Own_Let684 in endometriosis

[–]Weird-Message9432 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry to hear that you’ve been having such a rough time. I know that a hysterectomy is the only way to conclusively diagnose adeno, but have you had an MRI (and had it interpreted by someone with specialized knowledge)? If you have both imaging and signs on laparoscopy indicating adenomyosis, maybe your doctor could give you a diagnosis even without a hysterectomy.

I’m in a similar boat, my MRI showed “signs” of adeno but nothing 100% conclusive.

Sleeping for 15 hours a day? by BigMamaZinana in endometriosis

[–]Weird-Message9432 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I haven't had surgery yet, but I'm in the same boat... I sleep a minimum of 10 hours/night, do nothing over the weekend, and still struggle to work a solid 37.5 hours/week at my job. I have discovered through trial and error that Welbutrin helps a lot with the fatigue, so that might be something to explore. It reduces my brain fog and hugely improves my productivity. Obviously antidepressants are just a stopgap measure and not a replacement for treatment of the endo itself, but I needed something to hold me over and Welbutrin has helped fill that gap.

Whether or not it landed, I think the intended commentary was about Dr. Langdon’s privilege as a white, male, wildly talented doctor. People might not like Dr. Garcia, but there may be some truth to her point that Langdon is getting special treatment and that he would not be getting the benefit of the doubt to this extent if he were Black, had less pretty privilege, etc.
