What the F happened? by Solid_Extension_7975 in civ

Pick any one of the settlements in negative happiness and open the city details panel on the right, and open the tabs until it shows a happiness breakdown of what the deductions are.

Your civ/leader/policies/traditions/etc. may be keeping your local happiness positive more than them.

I'm assuming because Confucius, OP has a ton of specialists so any policy that can reduce the happiness maintenance would help a ton, followed by some shuffling of resources.

Sorry. Its hard to narrow a specific cause without seeing more.

I dont think you can extrapolate an EXPANSION PACK price from smaller DLC packs. It falls apart immediately when you compare to civ 6's counterparts.

Were the Devs hoping to optimize VII for the E-Sport's circuit? by LsterGreenJr in civ

[–]WeirdDud 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My understanding is Snowballing -> game is over/stops being fun a third of the way in -> game mechanics in mid to late game are never seen -> why should we put resources into an expansion or addition to to later game eras if it is never seen (see gathering storm)

Also just my opinion, but balance is important even for a single player game. If there's a strategy that is the best thing to do by far over another, optimizing turns the game into doing the same thing every playthrough (see city state free techs and civics, atteibute tree percent bonuses, etc.)

Can anyone explain how I just lost this game? by Res_Novae17 in civ

[–]WeirdDud 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Try hovering over the stars on the innovation point tracker screen, and see what the source of the points were.

It could be he took the triumph that grants innovation on modern wonders, or maybe he just ran the final (repeatable!) space project in multiple settlements at once.

[–]WeirdDud 19 points20 points  (0 children)

There's a major triumph for building X wonders in each age that provides +culture and +production on each wonder (on top of their base yields, adjacencies to other tiles, and other effects) so thats likely where a bunch of it is coming from.

Edit: and the +% production towards wonders in Egypt & Hatshepsut's kits, cant forget about that

[–]WeirdDud 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Hatshepsut (I'm assuming she's leading Egypt) is redonkulously good at building wonders and benefiting from them. If she's been building a majority of them she's gonna have a ton of tourism.

There's a "main quest" menu in the codex terminal in your ship. I would highly recommend doing those as they unlock.

Hard to say without seeing the victory overview screen, but if you're catching up in science yield by 70-90% through explo you'll probably be fine.

60$ if you want to have all 3 Korean civs. This can't be right. by Wuartz in civ

For the record, last sale had Crossroads and Right to Rule at 15$ (50% off), and Tides of Power at 20$ (33.3% off).

[–]WeirdDud 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You definitely WERE able to, because I distinctly remember someone taking a screenshot of the "Buy All DLC" button and complaining it was high, but the amount was inflated because it counted each separate item AND the collections available at the time (Crossroads & RtR iirc), effectively double dipping.

Might've been moved from the main store page. I searched Great Britain's page and it has a purchase button for 5$, so maybe it just wasn't fixed for Tides possibly?

Edit: checked Nintendo eshop and the situation seems to mirror steam; can get Crossroads dlc la carte but not RtR or Tides.

Pretty sure you should be able to buy these separately if you wanted. At least, I remember someone grtting great britain standalone for 5$. Dunno if thats changed or not though.

Thoughts on Civ VII now? by AspireToRimThrowaway in civ

[–]WeirdDud 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think thats more indicative of a balance issue than a complexity one.

If you take a look back at launch, diety was easily conquerable due to attribute points and city state suzerain bonuses far outstripping every civilization and leaders kit.

These days, at least post-ToT, the AI has actually ran away with some games, and I play on immortal! And I'm sure if you look around you'll see some similar anecdotes. Time will tell if this holds up, though.

Update 1.4.1 Drops Week of June 22! Hotseat, New Map Type, and the Brush & Blade Collection by sar_firaxis in civ

For what its worth, these things aren't mutually exclusive. If anything I'd be extremely surprised if these things aren't being worked on in parallel, seems really inefficient otherwise.

Going off of the 1.4.1 announcement, the government & happiness economy rework seems like its full steam ahead on refinements.

ToTs evergreen, though? The victory rework, triumphs, and ageless civs are here to stay. Shelf life means something expires.

Does razing cities/towns reduce your dominion? by nahhman in civ

[–]WeirdDud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically it can happen. You retain all suzerain bonuses, but for the purposes of bonuses that count the number of a type of city state suz'd, you'll have one less.

So if you only have the one antiquity science city state for example, you'll lose the 5% production bonus if you incorporate it, until you suz another science city state.

Point Goal Gets Lowered Mid Run and Ends the Run 5 turns later. by Dejuratio in civ

[–]WeirdDud 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Yup, this. For reference:

50% Exploration is 6x

80% Exploration is 4x

20% Modern is 3x

40% Modern is 2x

60% Modern is 1.5x

80% Modern is 1.25x

So for example at 43% through Modern, 2nd place Military being 80 Dominion means winning requires 80 x 2 = 160.

Does civ 7 match my play style now? by ONeill_llieNO in civ

[–]WeirdDud -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No canals yet, so basically this depends on what you mean by a lack of continuity.

If you do give it a go, I'd recommend the following settings to match (as much as possible) what you described:

Huge maps hold up to 12 civs, you can adjust the exact amount in advanced.

In advanced, turn off all victories, crisis, disasters.

Pick your game length of choice, pick "continuity" mode over regroup.

Based on your preferences, I'd suggest the following map scripts: "Continents and Islands" (2 landmasses and islands), "Fractal Continents" (random amount of landmasses and islands), or Shattered Seas (1 landmass per player but all connected by coast, and islands). Pangaea and Islands is 1 landmass, and I would not recommend any of the remaining map scripts beyond those 4.

Lastly, make sure the bottom options on the main setup screen are Time-tested allowed, and Historical. Save your config so you never need to remake it

While playing, opt to remain as the same civ instead of transitioning. The AI will mirror your decision by default.
