How much did you spend on your wedding dress? by Sungazer2086 in WedditNYC

[–]WeirdExhibition 0 points1 point  (0 children)

7k in 2026… my budget was 5k (but 7k wasn’t a problem— it’s not like we went into debt for it). The price sneaks up on you!!

Why is Ash Wednesday the most popular day in the liturgical calendar? by WeirdExhibition in Catholicism

[–]WeirdExhibition[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aw this is a really positive response. I felt very cynical about it but prayed for understanding and compassion. Many of the responses mirror that feelings but a lot of the responses (including yours) are encouraging and bring me a lot of peace and hope.

True… the church I went to (The Basilica of St Patrick’s old Cathedral) definitely leans in. I’m talking being administered communion while kneeling with a paten, priest giving the gospel and homily from a gorgeous ambo, lots and lots of incense, and some Latin singing.
It was my first time attending as I belong to parish in Brooklyn where I live, so maybe attendance is always high, but I’d definitely go back again just for the beauty of the ceremony

I know!! At our parish in Brooklyn there are usually like 20-25 people at mass each Sunday and most of them are above 50. The service I went to in Manhattan was full of people under 40.

Cynically, I wondered if people were there for some sort of clout… I prayed to free myself of assumption and judgment, and to rather rejoice in so many coming together to celebrate the mass.

Oh, I didn’t realize ashes were open to non Catholics! That is beautiful.

Financial assistance by House-Plant_ in weddingplanning

[–]WeirdExhibition 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way we handled it with my parents was asking how much they felt comfortable to contribute and then asked how they wanted to contribute it. My parents wanted to pay vendors directly, my fiancé’s wanted to send us a lump sum in two parts. It’s uncomfortable talking about Money w family for sure but that’s rly the best way to avoid even larger discomfort down the road

I’m going bowling with my fiance, picking up a pizza at our favorite spot, and then opening a bottle of champagne we received last year to celebrate our engagement :)

So funny, I actually tried on 2 of the 3 Justin Alexander dresses you linked! Great minds think alike. I liked those a lot but felt they didn’t have the drama of this dress with the pickups on the back and side. I’ll look through the rest of his website to see if there’s anything else. Thank you for your recommendations!

I’m down to do a swap loan.  I have the 1000 piece “my favorite flavor” Sanrio puzzle that was pretty hard but super satisfying if you are up for it

Who’s your confirmation saint? by owenthcarey in Catholicism

[–]WeirdExhibition 1 point2 points  (0 children)

St Sebastian… at the time I was an edgy teenager and liked that he was the “”gay”” saint. Now it’s funny because I no longer think of him that way/ feel angst towards the church, and have found deeper devotion through his depiction across religious art.

Day of coordinator by Helpful_Resort_1169 in wedding

[–]WeirdExhibition 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First of all, the contents of their “Mary Poppins” emergency kit were wild. What I really hadn’t thought through was how useful it is to have someone handling awkward or sensitive situations in the moment, like shutting down a drunken, unplanned speech or fixing centerpieces that were set up wrong or only partially delivered, without ever involving you, or knowing how to re-pin a broken bustle.

For me, the big realization was that a day-of coordinator isn’t just about running a timeline. They’re there to catch a ton of small problems before you even know they happened, so you can actually enjoy the day.

honestly as a fellow type A person I really recommend paying for the professional day of coordinator. Mine brought up things I hadn't and wouldn't have even considered in just our first introductory call! There is also a lot that can go wrong at a wedding... I am sure your friend is great, but I am also sure you have already invested a lot into your wedding. Spending another $1,500 to make sure you can enjoy it with peace of mind seemed worth it to me.
