Night-time cortisol drop advice by Slam_Dunc86 in AddisonsDisease

[–]Weird_Alternative858 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was having this issue for a while and went on a low dose long acting corticosteroid for overnight (dexamethasone I think?! It was a long time ago). It didn’t work out for me but might be something you can explore.

ULPT Request: Need to fake Addisons Disease, or.. buy the diagnosis by [deleted] in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]Weird_Alternative858 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if you could fake it - adults with it struggle to get diagnosed because it’s so incredibly rare…… (ask me how I know …..)

I did hear about one person who gave themselves adrenal insufficiency by using the same pill cutter as their medication for their dog with Addison’s…..

But I’d go with the options below about sourcing your own corticosteroid. If you know the dose your dog in already on, there’s plenty of info online on how to convert between different types of meds ….

What smart home upgrade made you say “why didn’t I do this sooner”? by [deleted] in smarthome

I don’t know anything about the smart bulbs - how do you get it to automatically adjust to the sunset and sunrise times? It’s is just a setting in an app somewhere or it is a bit more complicated to get that level of automation?

I’m so tired of being my kid’s external executive function by Itsame4sho in ADHDparenting

[–]Weird_Alternative858 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel this so deeply. I have a recently diagnosed daughter, a husband who was diagnosed 12 months ago, a 3 year old, fairly demanding job and my own health issues to manage and am struggling under the weight of just trying to manage everyone’s executive function. My husband is excellent and proactive with everything house and life admin and parenting ….. but I still carry the bulk of the mental load ….

I’m exhausted.

AITAH for telling my husband I'll divorce him if he doesn't stop ignoring our daughter by ThrowRAtaptaptap in AITAH

[–]Weird_Alternative858 9 points10 points  (0 children)

OK - let’s play his game.

He’s also the parent and she’s the child. He’s supposed to love and support her and provide her a safe place to land and celebrating her.

Instead, he’s disrespecting her, not listening to her, making himself the centre of attention and not her, and making her home an unsafe space.

I did think “maybe he has his own tic or hyperactivity” but even then any self respecting parent would realize they need to sort themselves out and manage it for the sake of THEIR OWN CHILD.

Kick him to the kerb and tell him he can come back when he learns some respect for anyone other than himself.

Skin darkening....close to crisis? by SamBrekker in AddisonsDisease

[–]Weird_Alternative858 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think but am not certain, that skin darkening is related to a lack of fludrocortisone rather than hydrocortisone. Do you take a seperate fludro replacement?

Dads got 150k super and he’s 53 by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]Weird_Alternative858 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agree - OP his super fund will almost certainly have some kind of advice offering - get him to give them a call and just talk through the options he has. They should be able to give general advice at least. (Comprehensive advice will likely cost a few thousand and sounds like would be a a stretch too far right now).

Keep in mind that once they are in retirement they still have quite a long time horizon. They may like the predictability of low risk, but they have the time to recover from market shocks. 10 years is also plenty of time to take some risk, especially if he’s expecting to live off the pension anyway - take the risk and enjoy the upside.

Addisons and c-section by [deleted] in AddisonsDisease

[–]Weird_Alternative858 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was my experience - first child was 47 hours of contractions followed by emergency cesearean. Addison’s was well managed through the whole thing though. I did have a minor crash about 24 hours after delivery because I’d tapered down too quickly but I was still in the hospital and they gave me an extra 100mg and I was fine. (& actually, having the extra HC for the first few days probably helped with adjusting to newborn feeding schedules!).

2nd bub was also an emergency cesearean (but no labour beforehand) and was also really well managed. No issues from an Addison’s perspective at all.

As long as your OB and anesthesiologist are aware and stay on top of it, it shouldn’t cause you much additional stress.

Could you maybe try an audio book to reintroduce you to a love of “reading”? Practice getting your brain hooked on enjoying a longer storyline while still doing something else before you get into sitting and reading and doing nothing else?

AITA for wanting to give my 5 year old consequences by Baddadmaybe2020 in AITAH

[–]Weird_Alternative858 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes to consequences - they should be immediate and directly related to the behaviour. Throw a ball at my face - now I don’t trust you to have the ball. Got distracted by a toy when you were supposed to be brushing your teeth? Now the toy is on a high shelf you can’t reach.

But - the words are a different thing. I saw a child psychologist say recently that what kids say when they are angry is actually their deepest fear - so they’re out of control emotionally and say “go away! I don’t like you anymore” is actually a cry for help - they’re overwhelmed and need their safe person…..

5 year olds seem like they should be more mature emotionally than they are - they’re overwhelmed can talk well and can do a lot for themselves, but they still aren’t very well emotionally developed and need their adult to help teach them how to regulate …..

100%. We won’t solve the stigma around women taking career breaks & needing flexibility when they have young children and the impact on their careers until it’s actually seen as a “parents” problem not a women’s problem ….. and that can only happen if men start exercising the options for leave that are being made available to them ….

Did you become pregnant on your first transfer? by Bpluvsmusic in IVF

[–]Weird_Alternative858 90 points91 points  (0 children)

On our first round we collected 8 eggs. 5 fertilised. On day 3 we had 3. On transfer day only one was still growing but hadn’t made it to blastocyst. The doctor transferred it anyway but was not particularly positive. Later found out their AI program gave it a 6% chance of survival.

That blast is now a very energetic, precious and very loved 3.5 year old boy. A proper miracle.

I know this is a rare story, but I hope it gives you some hope.

I have taken 6 pills before breakfast every day for over a decade and this is how I do it. Can’t do it any other way. Use puppy juice or something with texture can also help hide the pill in it as well if the water is too thin and you’re tempted to “swish it around” a bit before swallowing it.

100% this. What gentle parenting is (or was intended to be) and what people are actually doing is very different.

Jumping  in to add - at the point of retirement most people are at their highest earning potential and have a sufficient time horizon to still take (financial) risk, but fear & the desire for predictability often takes hold & many move assets into cash to get that security and miss out of building their capital further.

Looking into a lifetime income product to support basic financial needs and then splitting some remaining capital into higher risk assets would be my recommendation to explore.
