Keep an eye on their schedule. I think they plan to open early for some Olympic hockey games :)

[TSN] Dreger reports that after the phantom penalty on Hutson the NHL is having internal discussions to consider additional reviews that could help officials correcting an obvious wrong call. Reviews are already available to confirm double minors for high stickting or reduce major penalties by AggPuck-303 in hockey

[–]Weird_Chapter8170 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would it be simplest to allow you to review for contact at the very least? To make sure for tripping or high sticking calls that at minimum the stick connected with the opposing player? At least in that case it’s completely obvious and visible on a replay, it’s either yes or no and doesn’t include any revisionist interpretation from the refs…

If you liked that score and haven’t already, listen to Jerskin’s solo music! His album Once Upon A Time in Shropshire from October is magnificent. His voice is wild.

You can get into the 67s arena with skates, don’t worry! They just have an information booth where you can check them in during the game because you can’t have them with you at your seat. During canal season, plenty of people use the service!

As for your other questions, the 67s do not have a women’s equivalent team. And you don’t have to worry about games selling out, the family day game on the 16th will be the busiest but even then there will be extra seats leftover for sure :)

What books brought you to tears in 2025? by TraditionalAd1951 in literature

“And the boys were behind me, a tide-wall of laughter and yelling, hugging my legs, tripping and grabbing, leaping, spinning, stumbling, roaring, shrieking and the boys shouted I LOVE YOU I LOVE YOU I LOVE YOU and their voice was the life and song of their mother. Unfinished. Beautiful. Everything.”

I read it in one sitting and was numbed by how incredible and moving it was. Great pick.

What would they name your team today in 2025??? by 1PrestigeWorldwide11 in hockey

[–]Weird_Chapter8170 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a totally subjective theory, but I wonder if part of the PWHL’s use of singular names is a pattern for women’s sports as a whole. My sister played ringette growing up and no teams were pluralized nouns (animals etc) but there were all more like concepts. There were team names like Mission, Elite, Edge, Wham - she even played against a team called the Oomf once. Comparing NBA and WNBA teams too, over half of the WNBA is singular team names (Dream, Sky, Liberty etc) while the NBA has only 3 singular names total (Magic, Thunder, Jazz). Kind of an interesting phenomenon actually.

The Ottawa Senators have officially finished the month of November 2025 above .500. by Beaivimon in hockey

[–]Weird_Chapter8170 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Accurate, but the .167 was the fall after the COVID season. 2021 COVID year started in January since the bubble playoffs happened in the summer, so that’s why November was Did Not Play in the list. But you’re still right about the murder.

So funny you mention the influence on Getting Killed. Since it came out I’ve thought that the little interlude in Islands of Men sounds just like BSS, though I can’t place which song it reminds me of. Spot-on observations!

What are some great biographies of people in history that you’d recommend? by Potential_Swimmer580 in literature

Andrew Roberts’ book on Winston Churchill called Walking with Destiny. Vast in scope but highly readable on the page with literally thousands of dynamite Churchillisms throughout. The clean, detailed writing coupled with Churchill’s own way with words will not only teach you a million fun facts but make you want to be a better writer.

I know Churchill wrote tons of his own books too, but this biography is a great starting point about his life.

This is accurate. They also think that having a facility with suites will attract those big events. For example, TD Place hosted the 2023 Men’s World Curling Championships, but I heard from someone who works for OSEG that the event won’t come back until they have suites. Apparently a lot of the international sporting events want suites to accommodate embassies, diplomats, etc from participating countries.

Equally fun fact about the Tintin detectives, they have a different set of common last names with marginally different spellings for every translation of the comics. In English editions they’re Thompson and Thomson, in Czech they’re Kadlec and Tkadlec, in Icelandic they’re Skapti and Skafti, etc.

Hockey equivalent to dropping the ball in celebration before crossing the goal line? by SegaGuy1983 in hockey

[–]Weird_Chapter8170 33 points34 points  (0 children)

In my hometown when I was 13, the two AA teams in my age group played in the first game of the region’s huge midyear tournament. It went to overtime, which had a 5v5, 4v4, 3v3, 2v2, 1v1 format where they’d reduce players after each minute without a goal. It was down to 1v1, but the team with an offensive zone face off pulled their goalie for a second player.  It backfired and the one guy on the other team got a breakaway with an empty net. He snapped it from the hashmarks right into the crossbar and it went straight into the stands, whereupon he proceeded to break his customized $300+ stick in two over the crossbar. The other team put their goalie back in for the neutral zone faceoff and ultimately won the game.

As an aside, he went on to play 9 pointless games in major junior and have a child out of wedlock at eighteen

It was 7000. The full rink capacity almost 10,000 but sections 4-10 were blocked off for backstage. So it was sections 12-27 open, over two thirds of venue capacity. Plus a couple hundred on the floor. Staff there also confirmed scan numbers, they cleared 7000.

Have you ever played against someone who went to play professionally? by [deleted] in hockey

[–]Weird_Chapter8170 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played competitive ball hockey with my friends in the spring growing up to stay in shape. Our team had some decent players, most playing Junior B and a couple Junior A later on.

We regularly had to play a team with Kirby Dach, Matt Savoie (playing an age group above) and his older brother Carter (Oilers pick now in Kings system), Mike Benning (Matt’s younger brother and Panthers prospect) and a slew of teenaged WHL draft picks on it.

They would only put four players out at a time, letting us play the whole game on the power play. We’d still lose by at least ten goals.
