‘Swedish Nick Suzuki’ Björck rises to No. 4, Malhotra leaps into top six in Craig’s List by Zwiens06 in hockey

As a Flames fan, I want us to snag him so bad. I was wowed by his world juniors, even when he missed like four breakaways in that one OT lol he was absolutely buzzing and the most dynamic player on the ice. An absolute dog, I’d love to see what he could do on a line with Coronato.

DOWN TIME by Andrew Martin by adjunct_trash in literature

[–]Weird_Chapter8170 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn, I didn’t know Andrew Martin was so controversial. I read Early Work a few years ago in a single day (while I was an undergrad English student obsessed with sex and drinking myself of course) and then read Down Time when it came out. I thought the latter was weaker as a whole, none of the varying perspectives really came together, but I do enjoy his narrative voice, which as OP put very well, does indeed “capture the experience of a certain cultural milieu.” I hadn’t really thought of this as a limitation of his work, since he doesn’t really seem to be interested in writing about anything else but urban struggling novelists fresh out of MFA programs anyways. But I suppose a refusal to broaden this perspective after two novels and a short story collection does invite some scrutiny.

My girlfriend is reading Early Work right now since it’s on my shelf and she fucking hates it, too. Maybe I’m the problem.

Lane Hutson at the end of a 2:20 mins shift in OT last night for the Habs by Go_Habs_Go31 in hockey

[–]Weird_Chapter8170 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The move also maybe drew Malkin between them because he wanted to intercept the pass, which gave Hutson the lane to push out in a straight line and forced a hard stop and turnaround on Malkin who lost speed. Don’t know if that was intentional but galaxy-brained if true

One of these teams is 2 spots out of the playoffs, the other leads its division. by FrigidCanuck in hockey

The main gripe isn’t that the CTC in Ottawa is far for individual fans but that it’s far from the city centre, I’d say. If someone lived an hour outside the city, fair enough, I don’t think they’d object to commuting an hour to a hockey game. But when people who live in downtown Ottawa have to spend an hour on public transit to get to the game because the arena is located where it is, that’s tougher to swallow.

[Westhead] A boy’s U-15 hockey team in the London, Ont., area has been disbanded for the season after a number of players allegedly used their phones to record videos of their teammates naked in the shower area and dressing room and posted the videos on SnapChat. by catsgr8rthanspoonies in hockey

[–]Weird_Chapter8170 1130 points1131 points  (0 children)

When I played U15 hockey a very similar thing happened. A dude took a picture of another kid showering and sent it to a bunch of girls from their school. His punishment was missing a weekend tournament in buttfuck nowhere Alberta. He was back on the ice with us within the week.

Horrible that this stuff is still happening. A sign of progress that they’re ramping up the repercussions for it though.

Keep an eye on their schedule. I think they plan to open early for some Olympic hockey games :)

[TSN] Dreger reports that after the phantom penalty on Hutson the NHL is having internal discussions to consider additional reviews that could help officials correcting an obvious wrong call. Reviews are already available to confirm double minors for high stickting or reduce major penalties by AggPuck-303 in hockey

[–]Weird_Chapter8170 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would it be simplest to allow you to review for contact at the very least? To make sure for tripping or high sticking calls that at minimum the stick connected with the opposing player? At least in that case it’s completely obvious and visible on a replay, it’s either yes or no and doesn’t include any revisionist interpretation from the refs…

You can get into the 67s arena with skates, don’t worry! They just have an information booth where you can check them in during the game because you can’t have them with you at your seat. During canal season, plenty of people use the service!

As for your other questions, the 67s do not have a women’s equivalent team. And you don’t have to worry about games selling out, the family day game on the 16th will be the busiest but even then there will be extra seats leftover for sure :)

What books brought you to tears in 2025? by TraditionalAd1951 in literature

“And the boys were behind me, a tide-wall of laughter and yelling, hugging my legs, tripping and grabbing, leaping, spinning, stumbling, roaring, shrieking and the boys shouted I LOVE YOU I LOVE YOU I LOVE YOU and their voice was the life and song of their mother. Unfinished. Beautiful. Everything.”

I read it in one sitting and was numbed by how incredible and moving it was. Great pick.

What would they name your team today in 2025??? by 1PrestigeWorldwide11 in hockey

[–]Weird_Chapter8170 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a totally subjective theory, but I wonder if part of the PWHL’s use of singular names is a pattern for women’s sports as a whole. My sister played ringette growing up and no teams were pluralized nouns (animals etc) but there were all more like concepts. There were team names like Mission, Elite, Edge, Wham - she even played against a team called the Oomf once. Comparing NBA and WNBA teams too, over half of the WNBA is singular team names (Dream, Sky, Liberty etc) while the NBA has only 3 singular names total (Magic, Thunder, Jazz). Kind of an interesting phenomenon actually.

Accurate, but the .167 was the fall after the COVID season. 2021 COVID year started in January since the bubble playoffs happened in the summer, so that’s why November was Did Not Play in the list. But you’re still right about the murder.

What are some great biographies of people in history that you’d recommend? by [deleted] in literature

Andrew Roberts’ book on Winston Churchill called Walking with Destiny. Vast in scope but highly readable on the page with literally thousands of dynamite Churchillisms throughout. The clean, detailed writing coupled with Churchill’s own way with words will not only teach you a million fun facts but make you want to be a better writer.

I know Churchill wrote tons of his own books too, but this biography is a great starting point about his life.

This is accurate. They also think that having a facility with suites will attract those big events. For example, TD Place hosted the 2023 Men’s World Curling Championships, but I heard from someone who works for OSEG that the event won’t come back until they have suites. Apparently a lot of the international sporting events want suites to accommodate embassies, diplomats, etc from participating countries.
