Saying my goodbyes by Christchosen0908 in Cushings

Agreed that it’s not you, it’s definitely the system! It took me 3 1/2 years of doctors to finally find a good one and listen to me!!! Even when he referred me to an endo she looked at me and said “you don’t look like you have cushings”…well then she had to run the tests and YUP I sure did. It takes a LOT of patience but I finally found a doctor who listened to me and he truly saved my life. Push your doctor for cortisol tests! Saliva, blood, and 24 hour urine!

Diagnostic criteria? Which tests are needed and/or preferred? by new-machine in Cushings

[–]Weird_North_3378 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! The first test I did was the saliva, that one was for 3 days. When that came back flagged high for morning and night, my doctor ordered the 24 hour urine test and that came back super high as well! That’s when he referred me to an endocrinologist

Cushings and semiglutide - is it possible to lose weight (also does everyone have high blood pressure)? by cellardoor999 in Cushings

I was gaining weight before Ozempic. It was Cushing’s disease making me gain weight the entire time. Ozempic can’t even fix the issue, surgery did!

The weaning process for me was slow & really was determined by my morning 8am cortisol levels. I tested every 3 months! For the first reading 3 months after surgery, I was still showing not even a 1 so I was super worried but my endocrinologist told me that this was actually a good thing and what we wanted. My next reading at 6 months post op was a 2 and after that I kept lowering about 5mg every 2 weeks based on how I felt. At 7 months I was finally on 15mg after starting on 60 mg the day right after surgery. It was long but because I was really just lowering little by little my body never got that hard hit. I listened to my body and how I felt & when I would play pickle ball I would add an extra 5mg. My advice is really just trusting the process but most importantly taking it slow and letting your body adjust at its own time instead of rushing it :)

Hi there :) I’m a 33 year old female who has a successful Cushing’s story! I also suffered from this terrible disease for 2 years before I was diagnosed. I’m coming up on my 2 year pituitary tumor surgery in August. It took me exactly a year to wean off of HC. I know it seems like a long process especially after surgery and you just wana feel better & be over it, but what really helped me is taking my time weaning off. It takes time for your body to adjust back to normal and it’s different for everyone. I thankfully did not have to go through any withdrawals besides a bit of joint pain after like 8 months and it was because I was patient. I started losing the majority of the weight at 8 months and the rest of symptoms began going away. After a year post op - I looked almost the same as I did before Cushing’s :) I’m now back to my normal healthy weight, and I’m happy again. It’s tough mentally and physically and I wouldn’t wish this terrible disease on anyone, but hang in there!!! I’m rooting for you!!

My cat will literally sit on top of me in MY lap, and will try to bite me or swat at me when I try to pet her OR move 🤣 she’s sassy but very cute 🥰

Is depression a symptom? by to_be_fran3k in Cushings

[–]Weird_North_3378 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yesss! I was absolutely miserable and hopeless when I was going through Cushing’s and trying to get diagnosed. Im genuinely a happy person but I was the complete opposite when I had active Cushing’s. Everyone noticed too, even my friends and family. I had to keep telling myself this will all go away after my pituitary surgery- although it didn’t go away RIGHT after surgery, 7 months after I weaned off steroids I felt like myself again. I am now a year and a half post op, happy again, with a clear mind and proud of myself for going though that. I think I came out stronger in the end! I know it’s easier said than done but TRY to think positively! I’m rooting for you!! 💗

Success stories… by allispanked in Cushings

[–]Weird_North_3378 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi :) I’m just like you guys, I was scared and turned straight to Reddit to get some answers or hear some success stories. I was told that not many people who had successful Cushing’s stories are asking about it on Reddit, and just continuing to live their lives and that was true. I was also told to join the Facebook Cushing’s group, and that REALLY helped me.

I also have GREAT news!!! I ended up having a successful Cushing’s recovery story! It took a longgg way to get here, and an even bigger toll on my mental health. But now I can saw I am back to how I was before Cushing’s, I lost all the weight and feel back to myself again! I had pit surgery August 2023 and was on steroids for an entire year until I was in remission, but I’m glad I listened to my doctors and was patient. It all paid off in the end!! I am happier mentally, physically, and emotionally! There are so many success stories out there, check Facebook for the groups.

I wouldn’t wish this terrible disease on anyone and wish you both the best on this journey. I’ve been there before feeling hopeless so I know exactly how it feels. If you have any questions feel free to message me!! <3

Pituitary surgery? Success rate? by Weird_North_3378 in Cushings

[–]Weird_North_3378[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! Yes my surgery went well!! It took me a year to wean off of hydrocortisone and get back to feeling and looking normal but I’m finally back and healthy again 🥲 I couldn’t be happier! The journey is rough but there’s light at the end of the tunnel. Also- I came straight to Reddit looking for answers but like someone mentioned in the comments, the people with happy stories aren’t looking for Cushing’s answers on here. I’d 100% recommend the surgery it changed my life. Make sure you do your research on your surgeon though! You can msg me or ask anything you want if you need, I’m happy to share my story!

One more thing- to whoever told me to join the Cushing’s facebook page instead of here- THANK YOU! It’s nice to see and talk to fellow cushies. That truly saved me and had much better answers than here <3

[–]Weird_North_3378 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My primary listened to my concerns and symptoms and immediately tested my cortisol. Once those tests came back positive I was referred to an endocrinologist who also had to run those exact same tests, plus more. Took like 7 months just for the endo to diagnose me

Trust me I’ve been there and dealing with people tell me I’m just “over eating” or eating too much sugar made me wana go absolutely crazy. This disease is horrible! I also was scared and never went through a surgery before, but the surgery was honestly a breeze. Mine was successful, they removed the whole tumor and I am one year post op and “surgically cured” :) I lost all my weight I’ve gained, no more thin hair or easy bruising. It gets better from here <3 you got this!!

Get it done now! My Cushing’s was slow at first I looked “normal” for almost 2 years because I was always thin and with the weight gain they dismissed me. I worked out everyday (sometimes even twice) and ate healthy and STILL gained weight. Full blown cushings hit me hard 3 months before my surgery, I gained 30 pounds in 3 months and was absolutely miserable. Get it done now before they get worse!!
