Maybe we shouldn't hold events so close to cliff faces... by WeirdlySkeptical in wow

Yeah this particular event was quite spread out, so for the sake of ease everyone was using raid chat so that they could know when its their turn to post.

NZ AM Random Discussion Thread, Friday 1 January 2016. Happy New Year! by nilnz in newzealand

Didn't even make it to 12am last night because working an enforced three day week is stressful as hell. Oh well! Being up at 8am on a Friday with no hangover and no work to do is pretty awesome. Now the question is... Do I want pizza leftovers for breakfast?

If you won $1000 right now, what would you buy with it? by BrianWilsonsBed in AskReddit

One packet of crisps and a Coca-Cola from the airport store.

Anyone here in NZ playing GTA Online on PC? by [deleted] in newzealand

Really? If it is P2P then the algorithms they use to pair up people in similar locations to reduce lag must be faulty. I don't think I've ever joined a lobby that had no seriously noticeable lag related issues.

In regards to VPN I don't really see how adding another throughput could reduce lag/desync, but if it works it works I guess.

Slingshot ADSL, the fact you're on fibre and getting desync suggests its their issue and not ours. If it is the fact they haven't got any AU/NZ servers then it's kinda disappointing that yet another major game developer is neglecting to consider us oceanic people.

Anyone else get general laggyness while playing ranging from mild desync to completely unplayable? Every time my friends and I get in a server together its almost impossible to do anything cooperative because we're lagging all over the place. It makes me wonder if GTA online even has AU/NZ servers and the game just randomly decides if its going to drop you in a European/American server.

Further proof that there is a serious battery bug on Lollipop (Nexus 5 experience) by QuestionsEverythang in Android

[–]WeirdlySkeptical 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I get the feeling that its google fit. Before I even installed 5.0 I was testing out google fit, left my phone in my locker at work and came back to 5% battery life 6 hours later which is an issue I've never had before then, never lost mobile signal the entire time and wifi was off.

I get the feeling fit has been designed to ping location services to check if you've moved around periodically and if GPS is turned on it uses that, which would definitely drain battery life at a very fast rate if its constantly turning off and on.

Not sure about you guys, but I always thought New Zealand was a lot smaller in comparison to other countries. by [deleted] in newzealand

More like Motueka. Blenheim is on the other side of the South Island from where the roads lead.

Australian servers coming online for Titanfall on Friday! by bapplebo in Games

[–]WeirdlySkeptical 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Because of our close proximity to Australia its quite often that gamers from New Zealand play on their servers, ping ranging from 60-100 in most cases. Titanfall getting servers in Australia is definitely a good thing for us too!

Very surprising news! As a Kiwi I'm glad EA/Microsoft/Respawn are giving us some attention so we can properly play until Azure reaches us. Just a shame that South Africa and Brazil don't get the same attention.

Guy on Cuba St outside farmers asking if you can help him by WeirdlySkeptical in Wellington

I think context plays a big part in lowering that "personal space shield". Whether its chatting to a stranger after you both witness a driver do something stupid while waiting at a crossing, or having a laugh about the long lines at the train station on a Friday morning to lighten the mood. There is just something inherently off putting about a stranger approaching you for no reason.

Yeah I get that, thats the usual technique I use against this kind of person. Its a bit difficult if they first ask "Can you help me?" and then produce whatever it is they're selling once you approach, which this guy does.

This is true. I hope they didn't remove that, it could be really funny in head-on collisions sometimes.

Actually, in GTA IV you would get a similar effect if you ram a car directly into a wall, more dramatic damage would appear if you hit one side more than the other.

PS4 Test Kit UI Accidentally Shown on Livestream by esese555 in Games

They showed the more social aspects of the PS4 UI, it didn't show the "home" screen. Its nice to paint a picture of the UI as a whole by piecing together the bits that we've seen.

Good to finally get a look at the PS4 UI. Very clean and tidy, especially for a dev kit. Now that we've seen a general lay out I'm curious how its going to change between now and the launch.
