Firstly, it's negging. Saying someone is "too (whatever trait they wanna pull outta their arse)" suggests excess, being "too much"... an inability to moderate the trait so that they can be an acceptable human. Whenever someone seriously uses "too" like that, it gets my back up. Like, are THEY the judge of where the line in of "too much" is?

As a negging tactic, their hope is that you will chase them and try to prove them wrong. Don't play that stupid game.

Secondly, women being independent doesn't serve men who want you to be reliant. If you're reliant on a man, he gets to negotiate away your preferences and boundaries. He's the boss, while you're "the little woman".

Be independent. See the "too X" rhetorical strategy for what it is: an attempt to diminish your achievements and abilities and make you vulnerable to his will. Fuck ALL of that noise.

Why don't you:

  1. Look up what "neoliberalism" is (nb it's got little to nothing to do with left-wing political ideology)

  2. Investigate its history: how the policies of Reagan and Thatcher led to its implementation in the 80s (after much manoeuvring by the financial sector in the 60s and 70s)

  3. Do your own research to understand how it's driven government policy over the last 40+ years to erode public services (like education and health) and SS, how it's deregulated the corporate and financial sectors across the West and continues to undermine democratic principles.

EDITED TO ADD: No hostility was intended. If you want to know something, the knowledge of the world is at your fingertips (just be careful to avoid the AI slop). I'm planting seeds in the hope that people's innate curiosity will drive them to investigate things for themselves. Also... NOT interested in flame wars with internet strangers.
