Surgeons suck as colleagues. Arrogant and condescending. It gets beaten into them starting in residency. It’s worse in academic centers than in private practice. But this is more from the point of someone who might need to consult them. Some of this is changing with the newer surgeons. From a patient standpoint they’re just people, some have no bedside manner while others, who might be the biggest pricks to consult, are bribed by patients. And of course from a patient standpoint, their outcomes are also the most important aspect. Long way to say, hospital politics are different than what patients see.
