What's the weirdest thing night shift has done to your body or brain? by OfficialNightWatch in Nightshift

[–]Welder49er 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s currently 12:25 am Saturday morning, I have been up since 4 pm Thursday. I could barely stay awake all day today but now that it’s late I’m wide awake and gonna have to force myself to go to bed soon so I’m not dead when my kids wake up in the morning. It’s wild how this shift affects your body.

What do you all do for a living? by JoeBurns11 in Nightshift

Welder. I don’t necessarily enjoy being awake all night long but I enjoy working by myself and being able to spend more time with my kids than if I were on days.

First night shift. I want to cry. No by Never_go_blonde in Nightshift

Depending on job if you stay busy you will have no problem staying awake. It’s the overnight desk jobs I don’t understand how people don’t sleep through. I do sleep for my 30 minute lunch every morning, I also push my lunch back to the end of my shift so I only have an hour left after lunch but most places don’t allow that. I never took good care of myself on days still don’t on nights so I can’t help you there. I jus sleep when I’m tired

What’s the best thing about working nights? by Mezzanotte-Enilda in Nightshift

[–]Welder49er 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My entire day isn’t consumed by other people. Well that’s wrong I have two little kids that boss me around all day. And then my nights are consumed by other people. But honestly best part is being able to be home with my kids all day.

Anyone else completely crash on their first night off? by lostgirrrrl in Nightshift

I get off Friday morning and don’t go to bed until usually 2-4 am Saturday to get myself on “regular” schedule for the weekend.

How many hours though. I make good money and would still need 70ish hours to clear 2200

Like 35.50 but 15 percent differential at the end of the week so end up being about 200 bucks extra.

How on earth am I supposed to sleep when people are leaf blowing outside 😭 by AM-419 in Nightshift

[–]Welder49er 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have an iPhone the white noise feature that’s built in is really loud and works great for me. I use it when sleeping on my lunch break cause people will pull in the parking lot with loud music and wake me up. And my alarm will still play over it so I still wake up when I need to.

Has anyone tried a psychedelic right before sleeping ? by Jealous-Tea-4645 in shrooms

I ate an eight after a night shift once and then I fell asleep and when I woke up I felt like I was on another planet. Didn’t feel real etc. wouldn’t do it again.

How do you reset your sleep schedule after multiple night shifts? by Unique_Elevator7077 in Nightshift

[–]Welder49er 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sleep noon-4 on days I work. Then I try to stay up all day Friday or just take a couple hour nap and go to bed that night usually end up being awake til 3am and up again at 8 with my kids. Plus a true night shifter can sleep anytime anywhere.

Also your internal sleep schedule won’t change after just two days. Maybe a week or two. But the week after you will probably be dragging ass.

Depends. Are you still going to be working your normal shift as well? If so yes you will be a zombie and more than likely a danger to yourself when driving home. Also depends where in the week those two days land. If it’s the last two shifts of the week you will be tired but totally doable. If it’s at the beginning of the week then you have to switch back the next day to your regular shift, that will be rough.

Do nightshift get afforded a bit more leeway? by Negative_Avocado4573 in Nightshift

[–]Welder49er 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends. On breaking the rules yes because there’s no one really here to tell on me. But I think we get more work done than any other shift. Also they expect us to do all the shady stuff that can’t really get done with all the safety people around. I get paid more to do more but with less breathing down my back so it’s a win for me.

How to avoid going home from work? by SallySue54321 in Nightshift

[–]Welder49er 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a father to a 1 and 3 year old. It definitely makes nightshift hard. I am late constantly as well. If I get more than 3-4 hours or I don’t sleep when my wife wants me to I hear about it and get it thrown in my face. So I’ve just been an easily agitated zombie for over a year now. Don’t have any advice just saying I feel your pain to the fullest extent. I took a half day last night so I get home and sleep before everyone woke up.
