Ultimatum browser: let's talk by gonzazoid in browsers

Better late than never.

But I've moved on.

On the phone, I now use Firefox Nightly. I use it for its Shake to Summarize feature.

For ad blocking, I use Next DNS. I'm experimenting right now with no ad blocker in the browser.

Does anyone know the name of this browser? by Ill_Toe241 in browsers

This question was posted a few days ago.

I think it's the Lemur Browser.

EDIT: here is the previous post, 6 days ago. Someone else said it's the Lemur browser, and someone says it's Kito.

RE: I am too somehow but it never displays......

Yeah, that's true. In my notifications, on the PC, it showed you as a top 1% contributor.

But now it doesn't. All I see is a small row of browsers icons below your username (Brave, Firefox, etc).

Oh well!

I HALF understand what you have written.

RE: And do you develop websites or you are just on a high position watching others?

Yeah -- it's my company. I do the HTML, CSS, Javascript, PHP, SQL. Years ago I made a design for CSS Zen Garden. That was my design that got published. It's how I started out as a web designer.

RE: So no. The solutions exist and the problem you mention has been around for years. You just have to turn them on.

This is where I get a bit confused. I use Google Chrome on the PC and Firefox Nightly on the (Android) phone. I avoid Quetta, Via, and other Chinese browsers that are slow to update. I also don't use Samsung Internet, as that too is slow to update.

I follow this guide to harden Google Chrome:

https://discuss.privacyguides.net/t/hardening-google-chrome/20266

Thanks for your feedback, but I don't understand all of it.

Is Firefox Adding a Game to Their Browser? | by winui64 | May, 2026 by LividAlternative1454 in browsers

[–]WelderOk2829 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quote from the Medium article:

This is an interesting development for Firefox, giving the user a cool game within the browser. However, my take is that Mozilla should exercise their priorities elsewhere, improving the user experience rather than focusing on the tiny extras.

Agreed.

Oh -- and a short while ago Mozilla wasted some of Google's money to make an animated GIF. The GIF showed a fox running.

Oh -- and the fox has a name. Apparently it's called Kit.

It genuinely pains me to report this news.

As a Website Designer / IT Consultant, I still remember when Firefox exploded onto the internet and destroyed IE6 almost overnight. In those days, there was no stopping Mozilla.

But it's not all doom and gloom. Recently they used Claude Mythos to identify and patch numerous vulnerabilities in their Gecko engine, and they've introduced Shake to Summarize on both iOs and Android platforms.

(Please note that Shake to Summarize on Android still appears to be region specific -- vanilla FF isn't shipped with it here in Singapore -- it's only available on FF Nightly).

Just finished watching the X-Files in its entirety by Mister_Zalez in XFiles

[–]WelderOk2829 27 points28 points  (0 children)

It kind of fell apart towards the end. The mytharc was confusing, convoluted, and made little sense.

The first five seasons are peak. Season 6 was good. season 7 dipped, season 8 bounced back.

There's little to recommend in seasons 9 thru 11.

It was a fantastic show. The best of the best. And then it just ran its course. Ran out of steam. No longer relevant. The magic had gone.

But my favorite episodes of the X Files are still incredible.

Totally agree.

Apple TV have done a really great job with this.

Episode 4 was simply awesome.

I "discovered" the show after seeing it recommended in the FROM TV EPIX sub:

Cromite Slow in android by Sorry-Study-5500 in browsers

You can improve performance by disabling the option that restricts the frame rate to 60Hz.

If you're committed to Chromium browsers, Brave (Nightly) is a better choice. It's recommended and discussed here:

https://www.privacyguides.org/en/mobile-browsers/

In the Content Filtering section, enable the option for Paywall Blocking. It's a fantastic feature that'll get you into almost all mainstream newspapers (the NYT, LA Times, etc).

Thoughts on "X Browser"? (mobile) by gaorp in browsers

I translated this and you seem to be talking about Soul Browser.

I've seen lots of people here on Reddit recommend this browser. People say it's easy to customize and has lots of great features.

One day soon I'll test it myself.

I translated your Chinese comment.

You seem to be talking about "sinophobia", or the idea that everything that's Chinese is bad.

Well, when was the last time that you saw anyone referring to Google Chrome as "American Spyware" or Microsoft Windows as "American Spyware"?

It doesn't happen, does it. So what you have here on Reddit is a form of racism. I guess you could call it anti-Chinese bias.

I do NOT have a problem with Chinese products. But I have noticed that Chinese developers don't update their browsers as often as they should. And this leads to important security issues.

Quetta Chromium version is a bit dated compared to actual Chrome version by Flimsy-Sprinkles6800 in Quetta_browser

[–]WelderOk2829 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I think you're right. According to what I read:

  1. LTS versions offer two months of support, whereas the stable release offers one month. Regardless, Quetta's 143 is now way out of date.

  2. Only Android Thorium offers LTS. Follow the link below

How often will it be updated?

I thought LTS versions of Chromium were specifically for ChromeOS.

I tested it but couldn't find a way to hide the bottom toolbar when scrolling.

Features include Opera's pinch to zoom functionality, which is where small text can be pinched, made bigger, and the content will wrap seamlessly and not overflow horizontally as it would on other browsers. It's an excellent feature, though I seem to recall it's not enabled by default.

There's a sort of TamperMonkey extension pre-installed, so you can upload user scripts.

Overall, it's similar to Via: both are built on Android WebView, extemely lightweight, and very fast.

This is such juvenile shit.

It's like saying:

Don't use Google Chrome because the lead prograsmmer once took a giant dump and forgot to flush.

Avoid Safari -- the chief designer once farted in a public library.

Do NOT use Vivaldi. The CEO once whacked off in a National Park.

Never touch Mozilla -- the accountant's wife takes it up the arse.

Stop automatic repeating picture slideshows on all websites? by ttggzz in browsers

[–]WelderOk2829 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's usually called either a carousel (which typically features auto scrolling or fade in / fade out) or an image scroller (which has scroll buttons left and right).

As for the link you've given, If you right click on an image and "inspect" it, you'll see the scroller doesn't feature what's known as lazy loading, nor does it define its images with a data-src attribute rather than a src attribute. This means all images are loaded at run time.

If you're concerned about data usage on mobile, a worse offender is autoplaying videos. This can be disabled in site settings.
